New guidance for schools just announced on a Friday night before schools return. Breathtaking incompetence.

Oh Getoff me and Clav go back years, she loves a bit of banter.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 31/08/2020 15:11

@noblegiraffe

I’m loving the fact that Clav has had to spend ages trying to find out when that guidance was issued because the DfE don’t track changes.
Absolutely

And yes @Clavinova I have prepared for remote learning. Ready to rock n roll on Teams. In fact I have to deliver lesson physically to some in class and to those who are staying at home from Thursday.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 31/08/2020 15:13

The DfE are still a bunch of muppets. Luckily Clav is not on the receiving end like myself and @noblegiraffe

Why the unpleasantness and one up manship. Surely we should be supporting one another?

Apologies if I have said anything that has made anyone feel put down.

My attitude that, as teachers, we are all independent practitioners, and hopefully reasonably intelligent, and our school leaders likewise.

My head teacher said in May or June that we would possibly doing what is now the rota system. Because of social distancing, we anticipated half in school and half at home dialling in - which is, in essence, the guidelines issued on Friday (therefore, we have installed conference cameras in all the classrooms). These are not new ideas, and no head teacher should be taken by surprise.

Our SLT are very vigilant to DFE missives, but are particularly mindful of our insurers.

@GetOffYourHighHorse

"You maybe missed my earlier post where I enquired whether you either work in or have children currently in state schools? Do you really think it's best practice from the DFE to release guidelines at 11pm on the Friday night prior to the week thousands of schools are due back?'

Yes I have kids in education, no I don't work in school but have friends who do. I also have many friends and family who work in the NHS and other public services but it is (some) teachers who seem to be worst for not having the resilience to manage an evolving situation.

Again, the guidelines released on fri night are nothing different to the info our schools have been issuing after ongoing planning. This isn't brand new information! Yes there's a set out contingency plan but surely that escalation of who to send home depending on the number of cases was one school had in place. Get on with it!

@GetOffYourHighHorse that was quite the politicians answer. Are your children in state education or private schools? From your response I’m guessing your children aren’t teachers!

I’m glad in a later post you acknowledge the timing of issuing the guidance on a Friday evening was ‘odd’. The point is teachers have to read it over the weekend to see whether they need to make changes or not. There was no reason for it to be released so late, they could have issued during working hrs (& proof read it beforehand).

GetOffYourHighHorse · 31/08/2020 15:35

'The point is teachers have to read it over the weekend to see whether they need to make changes or not.'

But did you have to make changes?! That is the burning question. It looks exactly like the July 2nd guidance.

No, my DC aren't teachers. I can still have an opinion surely? I'm guessing you have opinions on all kinds of things in the news?

I'm just hoping the teachers responsible for my DCs education continue to be capable, proactive problem solvers and do-ers, not like many on this thread sadly.

Mumratheevergiving · 31/08/2020 15:39

That’s great for your pupils. How many cameras did the benevolent parent provide to enable the live streaming of classes from your school? I would imagine in a private school all the children will have the tech to access lessons remotely from home, this is not the case throughout the country.

Mumratheevergiving · 31/08/2020 15:45

@GetOffYourHighHorse you really are being a slippery fish! I take it your children are in private schools then?

I’m not a teacher by the way. Just a parent that appreciates teachers are trying to stay safe, keep our children safe & be compliant with Government guidance when schools reopen after the weekend.

We do what we with the scarce resources within our own settings. Economics 101.
Mumratheevergiving · 31/08/2020 15:56

@CraftyGin and the number of cameras provided by a parent in your school ready to live stream is?

I have a DC in a secondary with over 2000 pupils (that you said you wouldn’t entertain ever, ever working in upthread) so it would have to be a parent with very deep pockets to kit out all the classrooms with cameras there...economics 102

MadameMinimes · 31/08/2020 15:58

Well, quite. But resources are somewhat less scarce in your setting than in most others.

SaltyAndFresh · 31/08/2020 16:03

@Clavinova

And remember the building schools for the future program?

Yes, cancelled in July 2010 - the Labour Government had spent the money already.

Oh my goodness. No, the Conservatives chose austerity over investment in education.
ineedaholidaynow · 31/08/2020 18:11

Have you compared the 2 documents in detail @GetOffYourHighHorse? Can you list the minor differences for us, as it has hardly changed.
Maybe you can also tell us the difference between the second and the third version of the 28th August guidance as you seem to know it so well

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 31/08/2020 18:25

@Mumratheevergiving - it is nice to have positive comments just before the start of term

( unlike those that like to keep kicking whilst the victim is on the floor)

Mumratheevergiving · 31/08/2020 20:17

@StaffAssociationRepresentative I hope all goes well in the new academic year
