New guidance for schools just announced on a Friday night before schools return. Breathtaking incompetence.

They are absolute arseholes. As you say - why release this on a Friday night, yet again? They release all their announcements on a Friday night. Seriously, how does anyone vote for these fuckers?

UsernameNotValid · 28/08/2020 22:40

This is what's happening here in Scotland and now we're told that children won't be tested unless they are showing more than one symptom.

3 weeks in and there were 5 kids in my child's class today because some of them had a playdate over the weekend and 7 of them have come down with "a cold" 🙄

There was another group last week at a neighbouring school too. Parents aren't being informed unless a child is actually diagnosed.

Shizzlestix · 28/08/2020 22:41

So if a whole year goes home (what about the 5 teachers that taught them that day?!) does that mean teachers will have to do online teaching as well as in class teaching?

Bollss · 28/08/2020 22:41

@ScammedOrWhat

So they're only going to isolate the class if a child tests positive? Not when the child is symptomatic, or when they report their parents are symptomatic..?

That's going to go well

In primary you'd be isolating continuously if it was just for symptoms.
laidbacklife · 28/08/2020 22:41

Well it’s highly unlikely the entire class bubble is going to isolate for 2 weeks. People have to work and put food on the table / keep a roof over their head. Harsh but true. I’m not saying I condone it but my feeling is that many people will ignore this if they can get away with it.

Morfin · 28/08/2020 22:42

This shows the govt are expecting a second wave, all this shit about getting back to school, going back to the office. It's a farce.

LittleOwl153 · 28/08/2020 22:43

Hilarious timing given our kids have been back in school a week already!

wantmorenow · 28/08/2020 22:44

Morfin I'm sorry you are getting so much grief. I'm just exhausted with trying to plan when goalposts move daily. We have been told by SLT to be on site next week, students back following week, yet we have an open plan work room. Not allowed to work from home but we must be covid secure and plan for it. I have no idea how to achieve this in my office. No extra equipment, screens or even gel. No idea how to do it in my lab either. I'm just tired already and term yet to start. Kindly GP has given me a one off prescription for diazepam as my already menopause anxiety is through the roof. Hopefully a few judicious tablets may hold the panic attacks off during the first week. Not joking.

In lots of schools one bubble is several hundred children.

WingingWonder · 28/08/2020 22:45

Leicester schools went back on weds so already in before advice even released

Houseplantmad · 28/08/2020 22:47

It's yet another shitshow. I feel so sorry for school leaders who've spent the whole summer making and changing plans and now the government releases guidance that should have been sent out weeks ago. Totally unacceptable. I really don't understand how Gavin Williamson can remain in post.

HOkieCOkie · 28/08/2020 22:47

How is that breathtaking incompetence?

AlwaysLatte · 28/08/2020 22:48

I thought bubbles were going to be small groups, up to a possible whole class but no more. Are they not going to even separate classes then? Madness.

ThrawnCow · 28/08/2020 22:49

Hardly a surprise, is it? I assumed this might happen anyway.

wantmorenow · 28/08/2020 22:49

Friends daughter had symptoms on Tuesday last week. Test arrived by courier late Thursday. Test posted Friday (by me). Results back Wednesday late pm. That's a full 8 days before results. None of this works without improved testing.

Veryverycalmnow · 28/08/2020 22:50

The timing is shocking! Again!

LolaSmiles · 28/08/2020 22:51

In many secondary schools a bubble is a whole year group, so depending on school size that's anywhere from 150-300 students.

Staff are teaching across bubbles too.

wantmorenow · 28/08/2020 22:51

It's incompetence to release this totally foreseeable guidance after many schools have returned and too late on a Friday night to be of any use to the staff until the remaining schools return next week.

OP posts:
underneaththeash · 28/08/2020 22:52

I think that sounds sensible.
DS2 had a drive through test a few weeks ago. Test 11am result back 6am next morning.
I think the issue is the postal ones.

TuesdayBluesday · 28/08/2020 22:54

It’s not just secondary schools with big bubbles. Our urban primary is having bubbles of 100+, and with teachers moving between the bubbles.
How will this affect them?

Aquamarine1029 · 28/08/2020 22:55

This school year will be a shitshow clusterfuck. I think that's pretty obvious.

Indigovioletblue · 28/08/2020 22:55

YANBU (although I’m not shocked tbh). This way of working seems to be this useless government’s modus operandi.

UsernameNotValid · 28/08/2020 22:57

@underneaththeash I think that's the issue, not everywhere had access to test centres.

We've had a mobile testing unit for 2x 7 day stints since testing came into force and or nearest is a 1.5 hour drive/train away so postal is really our best option.

They need to be reliable for all our you'll have infected kids in school waiting.

beela · 28/08/2020 22:58

Fml. How dare they issue new guidance on the Friday night of the bank holiday weekend just before the start of term and think that is OK?

itispersonal · 28/08/2020 22:59

Great stuff my the government.

Try and social distance adults but it will be hard but if you work with SEN carry on as normal even if 1:1 with them.

Also if a child attends wrap around care and a class/ year group bubble and test positive, does the wrap around close and all the kids isolate, as well as the bubble??
