Help - hamster has escaped!

One of the kids has left the lid off the hamster cage and he has escaped - either yesterday or this morning. After searching the house we have found no sign of him anywhere . Does anyone have any tips to help us find him ?

Look for somewhere dark. Ours was inside a fitted wardrobe.

That's great news! Years ago my hamster escaped and me and my mum cried so much and my dad was devastated as he loved the little thing. We spent ages looking for him and finally sat on the sofa feeling deflated and miserable, when my dad suddenly shouted the hamster's name. We thought he was being delirious, but turns out he'd spotted the hamster toddling towards us from under the sofa and having a good old stretch as if he'd just been asleep. He had made a little tunnel inside the sofa and happily lived there for a while. Oh we were so happy to have him back. He was such a great hamster.

Ours escaped a few months ago overnight when the door became loose. I came down the next morning to an empty cage but found him in the bath. To this day I have no idea how he climbed into it!

My brother lost his hamster for 2 years!! We found it one evening in the dog bowl eating kibble. He was perfectly fine except he was missing an eye

We have a Syrian hamster @BlowingmyJets. He is 2.5yrs and is lovely, but it did take a lot of work to get him used to being held at the beginning. They are really quick and jumpy at first until they calm down and I had to put the hours in! Also felt quite bad about the cage size (despite getting the biggest one) so he has 3 joined together. Wish I'd looked on Pinterest for hamster home ideas first though!

He is a Syrian hamster @BlowingmyJets. We held him a lot when we first got him and hand fed him to help him trust us and feel confident with us - it pays dividends if you do that in terms of handling them. He sits on my lap to watch Corrie now, eating raisins !

Barney has had a big drink and enjoyed some cucumber and is now fast asleep in his nest - we have opened a bottle of champagne here to celebrate 🍾

This makes me so happy. I saw the title and zipped through your posts with dread. Gorgeous little hamster, so pleased he's home safely!!! Bless him, ending up so hungry.
