Help - hamster has escaped!

One of the kids has left the lid off the hamster cage and he has escaped - either yesterday or this morning. After searching the house we have found no sign of him anywhere . Does anyone have any tips to help us find him ?

Your hubby reminds me a bit of Tim Allen by the way!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 03/09/2020 18:14

Thank you for the update. I kept checking in. We are a hugely rodent friendly household here (guinea pigs, hamsters and rats). Never had one escape. But that is just luck. Our little girl hamster was very poorly this summer. First with a tooth abscess. Then with a hurt paw. She had 3 courses of antibiotics and 4 visits to the vet. All better now. She was very brave and is happy and thriving again. Your boy is very resilient. So glad you have him back. Well done. Hope he has now exhausted his wanderlust!

BestOption · 03/09/2020 18:17

In all seriousness I am VERY pleased Hammi is home. Great news!! I wish he could tell us where he was & what he's been up to!

julybaby32 · 03/09/2020 18:18

So glad there was a happy ending. He's a lucky Hammie to be so much loved.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/09/2020 18:18

At last

TheGreatWave · 03/09/2020 18:21

Glad he is home. We have an escapee. He now has padlocks on his cage.

Skingaling · 03/09/2020 18:23

What a lovely ending!

Rhubarbcrumblerules · 03/09/2020 18:35

Happy ending.

My best hamster escape story was one of ours got out and disappeared down the hole behind the toilet in the upstairs bathroom. Heard her fall down the inside of the wall and could hear her scraping about in the cavity of the wall in the room below. Children screaming their lungs out to do something mummy. One bread knife and hole in the wall layer I reached in a scooped hammy back out to live to see another day.

Another one (we had 7) made a home in DDs wardrobe, I tore the room apart and it was literally the last place I looked.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 03/09/2020 18:47

Way too invested in your hamster! Glad he's home safe, lots of fuss, carrots and treats! And peanut butter!
And a more secure cage so he doesn't worry you again! 😁

devildeepbluesea · 03/09/2020 18:49

Oohhhh this has made me disproportionately happy!!! Welcome back little Hammy!

DolphinsAndNemesis · 03/09/2020 18:50

Yay! I haven't commented on this thread, but I kept returning to it nervously, hoping for a happy ending. So glad that Hammy is back where he belongs.

blanchmange50 · 03/09/2020 18:56

woohoo i am so pleased....my last hamster was renamed houdini as he escaped all the bloody time...would appear in drawers having dragged food with him, behind wardrobes....

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 03/09/2020 18:57

Yeah!

CaramelCandle · 03/09/2020 19:00

Glad you found him!

Zakana · 03/09/2020 19:10

I’m so pleased he’s back, the little bugger! I’ve been following this as we had hamsters that used to escape when we were kids, or the sodding school hamster that used to escape when it was my week to have him! My mum once replaced a school hamster with a lookalike when the original didn’t return before school on Monday 😬 no one ever said he didn’t look exactly the same, the bloody cat turned up two days later with the original hamster in her mouth, the cat wasn’t even ours!

It could be worse, my erstwhile son wanted stick insects when he was about 10, they bred, then he left the lid off and I came down to find creepy stick insects everywhere first thing in the morning! I’m petrified of most insects so screeched for my son to run around collecting them before school, I was still finding them a week later!

pigsDOfly · 03/09/2020 19:25

Oh that's wonderful.

So pleased he's home.

NicEv · 03/09/2020 19:51

Ah thank you everyone - this has been such a lovely thread. Also my husband is delighted with the comments and is now going around saying he is an internet pin up 😉

Barney has had a big drink and enjoyed some cucumber and is now fast asleep in his nest - we have opened a bottle of champagne here to celebrate 🍾

Aww, so pleased hammy is home.
There’s something about a man cuddling a tiny furry creature that makes me go all of a flutter!

MuttsNutts · 03/09/2020 22:05

Been checking in daily for an update and I can’t tell you how pleased I am! 😃

Cheers Barney and family 🐹🥂

maddening · 03/09/2020 22:09

How did the recapture go? Where did you find him? Did you have to dart him?

So glad he is back x

BlowingmyJets · 03/09/2020 22:51
