Really looking forward to next Thursday. To be able to take my mum out for lunch and chat, to visit my dad's grave, to see a friend for a coffee and catch up and get my hair cut after 7 months. We love next to a school and have made a good luck happy sign for our window for the primary school children. DS will be starting Y10 and has suffered with school refusal so will be even more happy if he makes it back to see his friends

@formerbabe

I can't fucking wait to clean my house without them under my feet and asking for constant snacks!
I wonder where you have been for the past 6 months. 🤦‍♀️
Washimal · 26/08/2020 19:15

I'd be more excited if I didn't work

This. Instead of being excited I'm worrying about how the hell I'm going to keep my job when DC are being sent home and asked to self-isolate for every random cough/temp.

OnceUponATimeInHollywood · 26/08/2020 19:16

whoops quoted wrong post haha.

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 19:16

I can’t wait, I work at a secondary school and more than ready to get back to work and meet all the new year 7’s and my dc getting back to a bit of normality

Thefab3 · 26/08/2020 19:16

I’m working but have always worked flexibly as childcare so expensive where we live. Because the next while will be very uncertain with school being open / closed , some kids having to be off etc I’ve reduced my hours to be able to pick up, take days off etc. Less money but will enjoy the hours that we have free as much as possible. After 6 months of having zero down-time whatsoever it’s well deserved.

Butteredtoast55 · 26/08/2020 19:19

Thank you for your insight, @itsgettingweird As a Headteacher, I completely understand how parents will be really looking forward to some time to themselves after the last few months: they have certainly earned it!
It just makes me so sad to hear my teachers in school to prepare this week, saying that they are not planning on seeing their elderly parents now they are coming back, that they have cancelled October holiday plans as they fear quarantining, that they are going to try not to see friends socially as they can’t risk closing a bubble. Lots of them have young children too so have also had no time when their children haven’t been around. I don’t think many parents would blame the teachers if an infection closed a bubble, but the government sure seem intent on doing so.

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 19:24

Some people will blame anyone who closes a school bubble, student or teacher.

babycornplease · 26/08/2020 19:25

@Butteredtoast55 well said.

Thefab3 · 26/08/2020 19:30

@itsgettingweirdWhy do you think parents would blame the teachers? Bizarre suggestion. There’ll inevitably be outbreaks of coronavirus in schools .
People who use mn aren’t only based in the UK. Our government isn’t putting potential blame/responsibility on teachers about a possible spread or dictating what they do outside of their working hours, I met a friend who is a teacher the weekend for lunch and we are meeting for coffee next week. I wouldn’t for a second think of blaming teachers for positive coronavirus cases , why would parents do this?
I’m not sure what age your children are or what stage they are at school but it’s totally normal for those who have been juggling childcare 24/7 and work to want a bit of normality or a break , an hour or two of time for themselves even if it all fcks up again it’s good to have hope.
So think it’s better not to come on and rain on the parade...

Thefab3 · 26/08/2020 19:33

Most parents I know are very hesitant/won’t be able to see elderly parents also once their kids are back in school and mixing.

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 19:34

When one of the year 10 bubbles was dissolved at the school I worked in due to one of the students contracting the virus a few parents wanted us to name the student

BiBabbles · 26/08/2020 19:53

Why do you think parents would blame the teachers?

Many won't, but some will be worried and encouraged to look for someone to blame by certain groups. Teachers are already being set up as scapegoats.

I fully expect if one of my local school closes, my local councillor will once again get his camera out to film people and spread his ideas of 'cover ups' and how 'the people deserve to know' (without doing any actual research to inform people, just filming and spouting shite).

Aragog · 26/08/2020 20:06

Why do you think parents would blame the teachers?

Because the Government has already laid that seed in their more recent announcements and statements this week. The Government seem set on blaming the school staff, thats for sure - but then they have done with every single aspect of education in relation of Covid since March.

eveningsong · 26/08/2020 20:08

I think almost everyone I know with children is looking forward happily to next week!

MarshaBradyo · 26/08/2020 20:11

I’ll have my first moment alone after six months. Two mornings a week as nursery starts.

So expensive and feel a bit on the fence but also feel I need some silence.

Thefab3 · 26/08/2020 20:14

Everyone here accepts there will be outbreaks , teachers aren’t scapegoats at all where I am.
If anything I have seen parents vilified again and again; “parents looking to dump their kids off at school”, “selfish parents wanting schools to reopen”, “parents using school as childcare”, wtf , obviously a lot of parents use the time their kids are at school to work..
And now here, parents who dare to say they are looking forward to a couple of hours to themselves warned about “blaming teachers for outbreaks “ or dragged down just in case they are feeling a bit positive.
It doesn’t even affect us that negatively anymore if the schools close, we’ve bought loads of books for homeschooling and I work for a company that specializes in e-learning so can access good programs and tuition if needs must, We’ve had to completely restructure our work and can’t /won’t rely on schools being open to work now.
However I think it’s important for our children to be with their friends and have that lovely , sociable aspect of school but if they close they close. We can and will work around it and will give each other some time but there is nothing wrong with hoping for the best , planning a nice few hours, it was a positive thread that the op started.

MarshaBradyo · 26/08/2020 20:15

Pablo how long are students off school when that happens? Is it a standard length of time and do they get work?

catsarecute · 26/08/2020 20:16

I am very nervous about it. I would be more positive if I thought the guidelines from the government were actually making it safe. DS can't wait to go back. Going to see my mum this weekend, will be the last time we see her for a while I think, she's been shielding, we won't be able to risk a visit when DS is back in school :-(

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 20:18

I mainly want my DC to go back for their own sakes, I’m back to work so I won’t be having any coffee shop moments but I don’t begrudge anyone else and I will be able to have some quiet time on my break which is not a thing that exists at home with kids 😀

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 20:19

I’d think 14 days but it happened relatively close to the summer holidays, yes they all went back to home learning.

BubblyBarbara · 26/08/2020 20:19

To be able to take my mum out for lunch and chat, to visit my dad's grave, to see a friend for a coffee and catch up and get my hair cut

I was going to say YANBU but it sounds like you’re thinking about it all for me me me rather than who it actually benefits.. your DC

londonschool · 26/08/2020 20:26

I just want my year 12 and 13 to get on with their education properly and have some "normality" with their friends. All about them, not me.

PablosHoney · 26/08/2020 20:30

I doubt the OP isn’t pleased for her kids too @BubblyBarbara.

Titsywoo · 26/08/2020 20:30

I can't wait for all of us. DC need to be back in school learning and with their friends. They have hated the last 6 months although we'd made the best of it and had lots of fun times. I need time to myself and to get my work, business and house back in order. DH needs space back to work from home. I just hope that this winter isn't a nightmare and coronavirus buggers off for good.

walker1891 · 26/08/2020 20:58

MarshaBradyo Most won't get work if the teacher is sick but will if they are just isolating. It depends on the situation.
