To think Y6 boys school shoes dont exist for bigger feet?

... without paying a premium? Posted in clothes and shoes board but I'm getting antsy now and need to crowdsource so posting here for traffic!

DS was a size 7 when last measured so maybe a 7.5 now as he's not majorly outgrown his current size 7 trainers. As hes going to be running about a lot and playing football (sincerely hope so anyway!) I'm after the younger styles with the moulded toe shield bit, and while hes able to do laces, velcro straps would be better. Also, budget is small as I'm not convinced they'll get used very much tbh with C19 likely resulting in home learning for who knows how long. Everywhere I've looked the cheaper end shoes stop at 6. Please hit me with your ideas!

Treads or Clark’s. My son was size 9 at the same age. I feel your pain.

Mummydoctor · 26/08/2020 13:59

Both my boys have very wide feet. I couldn’t find anywhere on the high street that measured and fitted properly except for a wonderful small independent shoe shop. The brands we have had success with have been geox and Ricosta, though neither are cheap. They have always lasted the full school year though so are good value and are comfortable.

GreyishDays · 26/08/2020 14:03

Get practising on the laces for a start to open up more options. We struggled from size 3 to get Velcro (allowed to wear trainers so it’s different styles).

Parmavioletgin1 · 26/08/2020 14:12

Is the uniform policy strict?
I just got my y6 size 7 some karrimor walking shoes (all black in colour) to wear as school shoes as he decimates normal school shoes in anything from a couple of weeks to max half a term, but his walking shoes that he has for bike rides /scootering and playing in the woods seem indestructible.
You are right that trying to find robust shoes in big sizes is hard work.

TwoBlueFish · 26/08/2020 14:16

Not the cheapest but Startrite do several styles, such as www.startriteshoes.com/rhino-warrior-black-leather-boys-riptape-tough-school-shoes

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2020 14:19

I’ve always got my boy black trainers from the evil but cheap Sports Direct. He has huge feet. Currently he has all black Adidas leather ones. They do have laces but he had Skechers last year which had Velcro.

NothingTraLaLa · 26/08/2020 14:21

Clarks Scape Sky are available in a 7 1/2 H (and go up to a size 10) and I find them pretty hard wearing given that DS is a keen destroyer of shoes.

Newdaynewname1 · 26/08/2020 14:21

Superfit do them, but again not cheap. indestructible though

fizzysister · 26/08/2020 14:24

Thanks all. It seems I might have to suck it up and pay more whilst hoping he doesn't outgrow them before he gets the wear out of them.

It's not very strict tbf, and he needs walking shoes. I will look at this option more closely, thanks!

Clarks have a deal on at the mo that if your kids grows out of thier
shoes by February they will replace a pair for free.

altiara · 26/08/2020 14:29

Does anyone have suggestion of narrow size 7 black shoes/leather trainers? My DS has got tiny long feet and at size 6.5/7, adult shoes are enormous

Fyzz · 26/08/2020 14:30

Both my boys were in adult clothes and shoes in year 6. VAT is not paid on children's clothing and yet so many are in adult sizes long before they are 16.

Rowgtfc72 · 26/08/2020 14:53

Dd is 13 and a size 9. We use shoe zone. Cheap and cheerful but she will actually wear them out.
Clark's couldn't produce anything suitable for school.

KrabbyPatties · 26/08/2020 15:25

My son is a 10 and a size 8...

M&S has always done us ok

TrickyKid · 26/08/2020 15:27

Clarks outlet have school shoes up to size 8 for around £30.

itsgettingweird · 26/08/2020 15:29

My ds has small feet! Size 8 and 16 yo! He can't do laces due to disability.

We used sports direct and he got Velcro ones from size 6 upwards. Spent every lunch playing football and they always lasted the year.

itsgettingweird · 26/08/2020 15:29

Sorry posted too soon.

They are black shoes and cost me £27. So not cheap but certainly a lot cheaper than some of the other styles I saw or using Clark's!

Waveysnail · 26/08/2020 15:30

Clark's outlet? We for shoes £28

geekone · 26/08/2020 15:30

Mine is the same age P7 but only 10 and is a size 9.5 😱. We just go for black Astro trainers because they are smarter and he probably wouldn’t wear Clark’s shoes anyway. I always get them in the sale a size up in advance.

tangycalligrapher · 26/08/2020 15:40

Go to a Clarks Outlet. I have just paid £30 for a pair of school shoes in an adult size 12, reduced from £75.

Pythonesque · 26/08/2020 15:49

The worst thing is how quickly they may grow through sizes. My teens both grew early - daughter has had the same size shoes since year 5 I think (she recalls a PE teacher commenting that no-one in their class would have size X shoes - which was the size trainers my daughter was in). My son's feet didn't change much over a couple of years, and then suddenly took off. I think he might have gone from 5.5 to 11 in perhaps 2.5 years ... He only narrowly missed age=shoe size!

DelphiniumBlue · 26/08/2020 15:53

Sports Direct.

buildingbridge · 26/08/2020 15:55

I would get Kickers. My son has wide feet BUT his foot is small (3 1/2 at 10 years olds). I love Kickers! Very comfortable, fits perfectly and easy to put on. They do Velcro laces too. I wouldn't recommend the boots but the shoes I would get. I used to get DR martens shoes for by boy, great for his wide foot but he found it difficult to run and play at school
