To think there's no decent bra out there?

I'm really struggling to find the holy grail everyday bra.
I have a couple of bras that actually fit me ok that I was measured for in debenhams quite a while ago - but they are lace as it was just about the only style that suited me but they don't look good under smooth or thin fabrics...
I've had some less than great experiences in 2 high street stores before that which either wanted to put me in some horrible bdsm looking stuff (no it wasn't Ann Summers) which made me really uncomfortable and feel even worse about my postpartum appearance but apparently it was the ladies way of trying to give me a confidence boost Hmm or they didn't have anything for me as my boobs have a bit of sag since having DCs and nothing supported me nicely it all had an obvious gap between the cup and the breast.

It's even crappier now that I need some nude and plain everyday bras and can't get measured.
AIBU to think there's nothing out there?
Or is there a reliable brand I could turn to?

Try posting in the style and beauty forum, this is AIBU.

I still swear by Marks and Spencer’s for both bras and knickers. You can getting uplifting, plain, seamless bras there that would suit what you are looking for.

Mwnci123 · 25/08/2020 22:45

I always had shit bras until I measured myself using the calculator on Boob Or Bust (Facebook group) then tried on fifty million bras in Bravissimo in that size and next up/ down in various shapes and styles- had to be Bravissimo initially because even big department stores don't carry a great range of sizes. I have saggy boobs and find balcony and plunge styles fit best.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 25/08/2020 23:12

YABU if you haven't gone to Rigby and Peller for a fitting. The bras are ££££ but they last ages and you will never feel uncomfortable again.

RaisinGhost · 25/08/2020 23:18

I had the holy grail bra and it got discontinued! I had two already so it was fine, but five years on they are really worn out. I'm going to have to settle for something else.

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 25/08/2020 23:20

Second vote for Rigby and Peller. They are the Comfiest bras I have ever owned, hand wash only and they will last you a while.

PurpleDaisies · 25/08/2020 23:21

Fantasie bras with side support are my absolute favourite ones.

Queenie8 · 25/08/2020 23:30

M&s balcony t-shirt bra. £16 for two. Black/Nude or white/Nude. The most comfortable option I have ever found. My boobs don't escape into the middle, I don't get back or armpit fat, and I'm happy to wear all day. And they do DD+ size. My preference is 30 DD but 32DD fits and is comfortable.

modelthroughit · 26/08/2020 00:03

I’m not exaggerating when I say that these bras have changed my life. Cami bra from M&S. Comfy, supportive, and with the extra ‘Cami’ layer so they work under any top.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/08/2020 00:08

Rigby and Pellar really are another league. They just know what size you should wear, it's comfortable and everything works well. It's ££ to buy but they last.

TDMN · 26/08/2020 00:14

Depends on your size (although I am an E cup and its fine on me) but this bra is the bomb. I've tried all sorts of expensive, well fitted etc bras but this one just WORKS for my shape so well. Cant see it under tshirts despite being lace, not too in your face cleavage wise (ignore the pics on the link) its great.

Palavah · 26/08/2020 00:17

I think M&S designs are poor if you are DD or bigger - they don't have enough side support.

I recommend Fantasie and Freya or, the bees knees is Prima Donna which is available at R&P, Selfridges and independent stores. It's £ but they are excellent and beautiful.

TDMN · 26/08/2020 00:19

Oh but also figure out what type of breasts you have and go for bras accordingly! Theres an illustration at the link here that shows you what i mean:

I pay a lot more attention to bras im picking up now.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 26/08/2020 00:22

In lockdown have migrated to croptop style bralette things - but recently bought a twinpack from TK max - Nautica I think, that are more bra-like at the front, but still pull on, and racer style straps.
Super comfy, and avoid the mono-bust of crop top style bralettes.

Fudgewhizz · 26/08/2020 00:22

You need to go on Boob or Bust! You'll probably get a radically different size to what you've been wearing for years but you'll wonder why you didn't do it before. The admins in the Facebook group know an astonishing amount about types and models of bras (honestly they are total gurus) and they'll even do an online fit check for you. booborbust.com/

I thought M+S designed all their underwear for men now?
MrsMoastyToasty · 26/08/2020 01:12

I go to an independent bra shop (I'm in the south west). The women there really know the brands and I've never left empty handed. My preferred brand is Fantasie.

DorothygohometoKansas · 26/08/2020 01:32

Another vote here for Rigby and Peller, their bras changed my life! Before them I thought comfortable, decent bras didn’t exist. Now, I’m perfectly comfortable every day.

IwillrunIwillfly · 26/08/2020 01:46

Another vote for boob or bust!

DressingGownofDoom · 26/08/2020 01:52

Molke. No wires, no rolly straps, no mono boob, last for years and hoik everything right up. I'll never buy another make of bra again.

mayormaynot · 26/08/2020 07:52

Aubade is my holy grail. Super £££ but always the perfect fit. They wash well and last forever. Buy in the sale if you can. For me the fit is better than anything and no other brands I've tried lives up to them.

Bishybarnybee · 26/08/2020 08:23

I am a fan of the M&S Minimiser bras. I don't particularly want to minimise my bust, but I don't want padding either. The best of these have a slightly wider strap for comfort and no itchy lace. Practical, comfy and quite pretty.

I prefer the print ones - they do a different design each season.

botswanabanana · 26/08/2020 08:26

M&S bras are like Tesco or Sainsbury's these days.
Fantasies are good.
Have a browse on Bravissimo to find out what kind you need

overweightcat · 26/08/2020 08:27

Thank you for the suggestions.
I might take myself off to boob or bust and maybe hit up M&S ...

I don't have the biggest budget but would like to expand my bra drawer to more than 2 Blush

I think I'm just a bit wary as I've had some disappointing experiences.

PaperMonster · 26/08/2020 08:35

You need to go to an independent where they know how to size you properly then they can recommend a suitable style for you. I will only buy Panache Tango bras now as these are a perfect fit for me.
