to think vaping is very expensive?

I'm just looking at finances because my husband has left and we are trying to save money.
I've checked the account. He's spending at least £110 a month on vaping.
Is this a lot? Or is it what it costs?
It seems a massive waste of money to me.
He's not even using it to stop smoking. He just started vaping.

Is he buying juul Vapes? They cost a fortune if you vape constantly

TooTrueToBeGood · 25/08/2020 15:54

It certainly can be but it doesn't need to be. I switched from 20 cigs a day a few years ago and now that I've settled on what I like it only costs me a couple of pounds a week, if that. I mix my own liquid, don't use flavours as that massively shortens the life of the coils and I only replace the actual devices when they break. Apart from that I replace my batteries roughly annually.

I do know a few vapers though who treat it much more like a hobby to be indulged in and they are constantly buying the latest and greatest new shiny bit of kit.

Feathered · 25/08/2020 15:55

I don't see him at all.
He kept his vaping secret (along with his new girlfriend - twenty years younger than him)
He's not my favourite person.

I had a look at their website. Their vaping juice costs between £13 and £20. That is 5 times more expensive per bottle than mine. No wonder he is spending so much.

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 15:55

That's an insane amount of money, it's not necessary either.

Unless he's buying a new, top of the range vape every month (which is absolutely not necessary, don't let him tell you it is!) £136 makes no sense.
The mods could rack up the costs a bit but not by that much.
The premium juices can be upwards of £40 but, again, they're entirely unnecessary.

Is he using it for smoking cessation? Or just because?

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 15:56

New girlfriend? You have much bigger problems.
Bin him off!

Is it possible that he could be buying stuff for her too?

tensmum1964 · 25/08/2020 15:57

Maybe he has been paying for hers as well.

Feathered · 25/08/2020 15:57

The few times I've met him he smelled really strange - he's definitely using flavoured ones. Like a sickly sweet smell.

Jussayingisall · 25/08/2020 15:59

Wtf? How did we get from vaping to Jeremy Kyle in a few posts??

StormzyInaDCup · 25/08/2020 16:01

Ahh @Feathered the charges are probably for the vape wh*res treats he's been buying her. I'm guessing he met her in the groups on insta or fb and she's a vaper too?

There's a sad little clique on fb of vapers unfortunately and it's full of desperate old men and slutty women!

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 16:03

Sickly sweet doesn't always mean expensive. It also usually means he's only vaping to blow huge, billowing wanky smoke clouds, instead of using it to, you know, stop smoking.

After your bombshell, I'd bet he's buying stuff for the new girlfriend too.

Either way, why are you still with him after that?

Feathered · 25/08/2020 16:03

I have binned him off!!!! Well . . . he left me - but I've realised it was the best thing that could have happened. This is me sorting out finances ready for divorce. He's horrendous. But at the moment I'm worrying about buying new school uniform and then seeing him spending like a nutter.

He smoked until he was thirty then stopped. He's 48 now. Maybe started vaping 2 years ago.

He's a massive narcissist so he WOULD buy top of the range. Definitely in his character. He was showing off a new mountain bike to my daughter at the weekend that cost £9000.

So I suppose the question is. - if he's buying top of the range does this make £120 realistic? Or is there someone in the shop suppling him with something else?

OP posts:
Feathered · 25/08/2020 16:04

Im not with him. HOORAY!!!!

OP posts:
Feathered · 25/08/2020 16:04

By the way @TinkersTailor wanky is my favourite word.

No @StormzyInaDCup - he was her boss. She was on a student placement. FFS.

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 16:07

Sorry, I saw that after my post. Good! I'm glad. Fucking arsehole he is. Sorry you're going through this Sad

It is possible to spend that much in a vape shop - especially buying top of the range everything. However, I know some shops sell products containing THC under the counter. One near me recently got shut down (and the owners hauled off by the police) because of it.

Is he the type to smoke weed?

LeSquigh · 25/08/2020 16:07

Agreed. I vape A LOT and other than the initial outlay I would say I spend about £30 tops a month on vape juice/coils.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/08/2020 16:09

If he is buying the machine regularly, changing them like he changes his underwear, or at the same rate be bought a packet of fags, then yes. It could be that expensive... and yes, that shop is very highly priced.

But DHs vaping is so cheap it is laughable! Even with his mods, spare batteries and preferred juices!

TooTrueToBeGood · 25/08/2020 16:09

Is there a reason why you still have a shared bank account if you are now seperated? It's a very bad idea.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/08/2020 16:10

It's possible he hasn't worked out how to change the coils... and is buying a new pod when they go!

Is he a very stupid man?

Feathered · 25/08/2020 16:12

Thanks.

Super helpful.

I can't believe my life has become Jeremy Kyle. (I'm ever so nice, honestly!)

He smoked weed a LOT when he was late teens and twenties.

OP posts:
Feathered · 25/08/2020 16:20

Yes. I need to sort out the bank.

@CuriousaboutSamphire he's a scarily clever man

in some ways.

WiddlinDiddlin · 25/08/2020 16:27

Oh yeah you can easily spend that much and more if you want to..

I have two box mods that cost around 70 each.
I have around six tanks, those all cost around 20 each.
If I buy big bottles of juice, those can be from 12 to 18 ish.
Coils I tend to buy in threes, and vaping very sweet juices a coil lasts me around a week, but I might have two tanks on the go so they last a little longer sometimes.

If he has lots of tanks, mods and likes to keep in stock a lot of juice or try all the latest flavours, he could spend a bloody fortune on it.

He sounds like a typical guy who thinks he’s a genius but really, really isn’t.
