To wonder what to do with neighbours parcels?

Dp accepted a few parcels for neighbour a few doors down over 2 weeks ago. We’ve been round several times since to no answer, popped a note through door, no reply. The packaging has the name of the retailer (Well known clothing store) so I contacted them on live chat, they seemed confused that I couldn’t give them my account number 🙄 and asked me to call the helpline. Staff equally confused by the situation, passed about and put on hold, then cut off! What am I legally meant to do with them now? 😐

Go and put them on their door step, and don't accept anymore.
Or send them back, freepost undelivered. i'd also consider just putting them in the post box, return to sender.

starfishmummy · 25/08/2020 14:54

You say a few doors down, so have you asked their immediate neighbours if they know anything, if theure away maybe they have a key and can put them inside.

MeMyselfAye · 25/08/2020 14:56

I’ve been very tempted to leave them on the doorstep but worry if they were stolen that we would be responsible for accepting them.

There is 3 huge bags, so must be quite a bit of value in them.

I’d put a note through telling them if they don’t collect by a certain deadline you’re sending them back. Hopefully free returns though or I’d be contacting sender again and telling them they have so long to collect. x

emmathedilemma · 25/08/2020 15:00

Are they away?
I took some things in for one of my neighbours when they were away for a number of weeks (before lockdown, i suspect they'd gone to family overseas) but i went round 3 times after they got back and they never answered the door. I'm fairly certain they were in as there was lights on and on one occasion I could hear the TV. Eventually i saw them going out one day so i left it on the doorstep while they were out and they took it in on their return! I'm not taking stuff in for them again, it's not the first time i've been stuck for things for weeks.

Sooverthemill · 25/08/2020 15:02

Put a note through the door ad say if they dint come to get them by x day you will return to sender

Madcats · 25/08/2020 15:11

It sounds as if your distant 'neighbours' have gone off on holiday for a fortnight and the clothing was late arriving.

Thanks to lockdown our immediate neighbours all have a pretty good idea about who is going away and we keep a look out for post etc.
Maybe just ask the families living next door.

Terrace58 · 25/08/2020 15:20

If they are traveling, could you just keep the packages until they return. If they aren’t away, I agree, give them a deadline for pickup.

AlwaysLatte · 25/08/2020 15:22

Sounds like they're away, I'd keep them for up to a month then return them to the store.

Fuckityfucksake · 25/08/2020 15:29

I'd definitely try asking their direct neighbours.
They may have had to leave in an emergency, be on holiday etc.. It's strange that they were there to order the things but not to take delivery of them.
If there's still no solution in the next few days I'd send them back to the sender with a note explaining why.
Take photo's of the hand over and keep any receipts.
Do not accept again.

gutentag1 · 25/08/2020 15:36

If you've already put a note through, just keep them in the garage until they pick them up.

MeMyselfAye · 25/08/2020 15:36

Can’t really speak to neighbours as there are flats between us so no direct main doors. Will try and contact sender again to return don’t really have the space to hang on to them tbh. Have told dp not to accept any more parcels

IntermittentParps · 25/08/2020 15:40

Mark them all 'return to sender' and bung in postbox.

SD1978 · 25/08/2020 15:41

Personally would post a note- if parcels not collected by X day, they will be returned.

FippertyGibbett · 25/08/2020 15:42

This is exactly why I never take parcels in for neighbours.
And I always leave delivery instructions so that they don’t have to take them in for me.

wibdib · 25/08/2020 15:55

I would try posting a message on social media such as Facebook or twitter explaining the problem including the fact that as you’re not the customer you don’t have an account number so what can you do as you don’t have space for everything and you can’t afford to post them back - when other people can see the responses given it’s not as easy for them to ignore you or say sorry, don’t know what to do.

Devlesko · 25/08/2020 15:59

It's dp problem, why are you even getting involved?
is he one that palms it off for you to sort out? lol.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/08/2020 16:02

The details to return will be inside the parcel bit if you go online you should be able to print off a label too. Are they in a flat or are they a house between flats? What about opposite?
WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 25/08/2020 16:05

If your dp accepted them then I'd ask him to sort it out tbh.
Either by sending a facebook message to the company, posting a note through the neighbours door or printing a returns label off and sending back.

ChikiTIKI · 25/08/2020 16:06

@devlesko I assume the Dp doesn't care about the bags taking up space in the house.

BelfastSmile · 25/08/2020 16:08

You probably don't even need the return labels - check with your Post Office. They may be able to get the address by scanning them.

I agree with leaving them a note to collect by x date. They may have ordered clothes for holidays and then the parcels arrived too late.

I also agree with getting your DH to sort it, since he took the parcels in (unless this is entirely a one-off, in which case whoever has more time should probably do it).

heymacaroner · 25/08/2020 16:09

Maybe they're away? No logical reason for them to ignore your note etc unless they weren't there. I'd just put it in a cupboard and forget about it for a while.

Devlesko · 25/08/2020 16:14

ChikiTIKI

We have a good policy, take a job on and complete it. OP's dp isn't capable of doing this for some reason. So, it was pointed out he accepted the parcels, his job to complete. But he seems to have a maid to do that for him.

evilkitten · 25/08/2020 16:15

Open them, fill in the slip to return requesting ridiculous sizes instead, stick in post?

MeMyselfAye · 25/08/2020 16:30

Didn’t even think to open them and check for a returns label! Did try calling again but the hold times are ridiculous.

Dp did accept the parcels and has been round several times, however I’m fed up of looking at them so wanted to sort it.
