I’ve been chucked out of bed

Pictures are the culprits who despite their small size, take up an alarming amount of room. I can’t move them, “let sleeping dogs lie”!

Ah, I get round this by mine sleeping out on the landing and only let in early morning. She then lies down the middle of the bed and I have to lie in increasingly awkward poses around her. She's a Patterdale, but takes up a Wolfhound's worth of bed.

And all those who think it's disgusting, presumably you would share your bed with another human? A child? In a dirty nappy? Or one liable to vomit?

I'll take dog hair (which shakes off the covers) any day!

@Zaphodsotherhead to be fair my girl is happy sleeping anywhere, but I love having her close. Neither malt much, the bloody cat does though!

I know the feeling. My 2 cats are little, but take up a surprising amount of room in bed!
I end up sleeping in a z shape position

It's the doggy wallpaper! You've given them the message that it's their room not yours Wink

Am I the only animal lover who can't bear the idea of pets on my bed?

TrufflePioneer · 24/08/2020 11:34

Part and parcel of being a member of the pack OP. Yep, I'm disgusting too - my dog did start on his own bed on the floor, but he eventually migrated to our bed. About 3am I usually find myself with a biscuity-smelling face lovingly snuggled under my chin and his body tucked up beside mine.

Yes he's a bit hairy, yes they can be a bit grotty no worse than a child but I find it very soothing having him there.

I recently read that that the biscuit smell is actually bacteria, which is a bit off-putting. But he doesn't smell doggy and neither does the house.

No you're not, I adore dogs but they are filthy creatures.

Bad news. He does smell and so does your house

Yes I am a dog owner and can’t smell it in my own house, but other people can when asked

TooTrueToBeGood · 24/08/2020 12:24

Enjoy the cuddles.

I was in bed for about three weeks recovering from covid and my dog took on the role of emotional support animal with absolute dedication. Prior and since he has never challenged the rules that he is not allowed in the bedroom and certainly not up on the bed but when I was ill he never left my side. Sometimes dogs know you just need a furry cuddle.

Zaphodsotherhead · 24/08/2020 15:32

And why would that be bad news?

I don't mind the smell of dog at all - mine, or other people's. What I DO mind is houses where the owners have tried to expunge every trace of normal smells with artificial air fresheners, diffusers, candles and sprays of every type.

Smell never killed anyone!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 24/08/2020 15:45

You're lucky you're still alowed to sleep in the room!
A pack of hamsters now own my bedroom due to their late night wheel antics and noisy acrobatics and i sleep in the living room :P
Wouldn't change their gorgeous furry faces for anything though. At least the snakes are quiet so my dad isn't down here joining me!

RyanBergarasTeeth · 24/08/2020 15:46

I would rather my house smell lile dog than be bitter and miserable without the love of a dog.

We have one DTwatCat who, despite being about the size of a roast chicken (I found him sitting in the slow cooker one day), expands to approximately four and a half foot long and clearly feels his place is between us on top of the covers at night.

When DP is twatting about on guitars or the internet not ready to come to bed yet, said DTwatCat lies sideways to fill the space DP would normally take up, so he frequently tries to creep in on my side from the foot of the bed up. This only works when the other DTwatCat isn't trying to be the Best Friend in the World and simultaneously taking up the bottom, side and head of the bed.

In winter, we have purring, furry hats to wake up to. So I bought extra pillows to create a space for them away from delicate scalp skin, as nothing wakes you up as quickly as a happy cat kneading the top of your head.

Love the slow cooker kitty!
