Yeah, medication is a good one. Far easier to grab it on your way out rather than go through the torture of trying to get your GP surgery and pharmacy to sort out replacements.

Probably my handbag ( as has keys and bank cards etc in it and mobile), then passport as you need ID docs to restart your life. That is probably at least 3. I gave the 3 older children a new hard drive with all the family photos, (back to the 1890s), videos, certificates (theirs) on it so hopefully I could get copies of that if there were a complete file although may be I should just take the bottom bit of my computer too so I could keep working immediately.

I don't have any jewellery at all nor medicines. I suppose I might want to take my car as at least we could sleep in it.

  1. Hip bag - hangs by the door and contains keys, purse, passport, phone

  2. iPad Pro

  3. My little dinghy - I live by the Rhine and might want another escape route

VeggieSausageRoll · 22/08/2020 13:13

Tub containing USB sticks of important photos (wedding, newborn, significant events etc). They're backed up electronically but the USB sticks have the high quality versions we used for canvases and prints.

Car keys.

A snack (because let's face it, that's probably what any toddler would ask for whilst the house burnt down!)

I lost everything in a flood some years ago and discovered that most things are replaceable and those that aren't you can live without. In a similar situation, I would grab my phone, purse and car keys.

Following the flood, I have a fireproof and waterproof safe for personal documents as not having these would just add to the stress.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 22/08/2020 13:35

Hard drive that our laptops (including photos) are backed up to.
Special memento box - all my most precious things are in it.
Car keys.
Phone - all account passwords are saved to it in aWallet.
I'd get DH to carry the safe. 😂

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 22/08/2020 13:35

DH would also grab his guitar.

Ishihtzuknot · 22/08/2020 13:57

All photos, computer as that has digital photos saved and my children’s boxes of ‘special things’

user1471538283 · 22/08/2020 15:11

Physical photographs, my Great Grandmother's engagement ring and my phone

Chwaraeteg · 22/08/2020 15:39

Can I just ask you to think before you post OP? This blase, banter like approach to the subject of house fires just isn't appropriate. It's actually quite upsetting for those of us who have lost family members and pets in these sorts of circumstances.

And for the record, if you do find yourself in a house fire, you wouldn't save anything because you would be too busy trying not to die of smoke inhalation / worrying if your kids made it out alive. Don't trivialise it.

My babys ashes and memory box.
My living babys memory box/photo albums.
My wedding album.

Graphista · 22/08/2020 17:04

Phone (supposedly cos of pics but honestly I LOVE my phone and run my life through it!)

Photo albums

Sentimental jewellery

Life experience has taught me everything else can be replaced though admittedly it's a ball ache replacing things like passports so really I'd need a 4th of important documents

Everything else you really won't miss

Like the idea of cheating and saying handbag but in handbag is all crucial things

Yankathebear · 22/08/2020 17:04

Nothing (which makes me quite sad).

dwiz8 · 22/08/2020 17:06

Cash

Jewelry

Tbh I'd take everything in the safe if possible which would include the three items above

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 22/08/2020 17:07

My special piece of drift wood that i found on a Moroccan beach. (The tree it came from must have had little bugs/worms underneath the bark and they have left these beautiful little intricate patterns all over it)
My venus fly trap
A clay tile that me and dd made when she was 3 that has our names and the date it was made engraved on the back.
