Just wondering how many actually believe that?

YABU = He is on a camping trip

YANBU = He is not on a camping trip

If he needs sick leave to recuperate that's fine. Just say that, don't lie about being on holiday.

And yes, even leaders need a holiday. But then they should give it up in a crisis to, y'know, do what they campaigned for and actually lead.

LillianBland · 20/08/2020 21:23

The last time I was camping, I slept in a four poster bed and showered in the solid block built bathroom, attached to the tent. I then blew dried my hair, sitting at a beautiful dressing table. There’s camping and there’s camping. This was in Masa Mari, @ 20 years ago. I dare say things have improved further since then.

Didiusfalco · 20/08/2020 21:27

@MagicSummer

I think he is still not well and that the whole experience has completely shaken him. Hopefully he will come back firing on all cylinders after a break. I am speaking as a staunch Conservative and wavering in my support of him, but just hope he will come back healthy.
Well, I'm a staunch Labour supporter and I hope he comes back healthy and ready to do his job too. He may not be what we need, but he's what we've got at the minute. Hoping him faking his camping trip (possibly Hmm) is the worst of his faux pas for the rest of the year!
toastmeahotcrossbun · 20/08/2020 21:27

He's on annual leave, to which he is perfectly entitled. Where he is spending it, is none of your business

But then, just say he's on annual leave. I think if you say he's camping for 2 weeks in Scotland people are bound to be a bit Hmm
Of course, perhaps he is camping. 7% think he is (so far)

Camping but not as we know it Jim

To think our Prime Minister is not on a camping trip
CloudyGladys · 20/08/2020 21:31

The Queen usually hosts the Prime Minister at Balmoral for a few days in late Summer, so chances are that is where he is.

toastmeahotcrossbun · 20/08/2020 21:33

We did not handle the crisis that well - but then no other population dense country did. But it was something completely new, that we couldn't have foreseen. I doubt (especially given the level of grammar of their posts) that many of the PP could have done much better.

I for one think I would have done a better job, and if I had the choice between the existing cabinet and a group of MNers I'd take my chances and swap

Rumour is he is staying at the Fairmont in St Andrews. If true, that is my kind of camping!

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2020 21:39

The least it is is glamping!

On a site I suspect he has private use of.

But wherever he is it's convenient he's on holiday again during a crisis Hmm

Perhaps Her Majesty (remembering her reported displeasure over the 2019 prorogation of Parliament) has pulled off a PA masterstroke by extending the traditional invitation to Balmoral, but accommodating Mr Johnson in a less-than-watertight tent on the estate.
PiataMaiNei · 20/08/2020 21:44

@underneaththeash

Poor bloke needs a holiday - there's a reason that we insist on F/T employees having 28 days a year holiday. You can't function properly without a break, especially with a new baby.

I suspect he's exceeded his 28 days already this year...

FFS he is the PM, not John your local plumber! the UK is in the middle of a pandemic and is facing an economic collapse not seen since .... well never seen and he fucks off on "annual leave" and thats before we get to the exams fiasco.

Johnson is a lazy good for nothing! and should resign.

Arthersleep · 20/08/2020 21:47

In fairness though, the reports did say that he was holidaying in Scotland and would be camping for a couple of days as part of it (i.e. one night). And it is probably part of an excursion or on a private island so that he can play Swallows and Amazon's. It doesn't say that his baby will be camping with them. Perhaps a nanny will look after it for a night. Or perhaps he will just be 'camping' on the sofa, having been kicked out of bed. I can actually see him camping, albeit in a grown cub scouts sort of way. You just pictured him uniform didn't you? Dib dib dib (predicted text just changed that to Div, div, div!)

Arthersleep · 20/08/2020 21:49

And actually, it's not annual leave. He's taking his two weeks paternity leave apparently.

MrsHound · 20/08/2020 21:51

He is sitting somewhere, waiting for Dominic Cummings to tell him what to do.

LightAsTheBreeze · 20/08/2020 21:51

I also thought that it had been mentioned about taking paternity leave

QueenofLouisiana · 20/08/2020 21:51

I’m pretty certain DH is supposed to be on annual leave right now. That stopped at 8am last Wednesday when he “popped in” to help download the A Level results. He hasn’t had a day’s holiday since. (Usual disclaimers: teachers are not paid for their holidays, yes we both worked every day when “the schools were shut”.)
Currently we are on a campsite (no sign of Boris), DH has spent 2 hours making phone calls, checked data, answered emails...
If our holiday is at the mercy of this shitshow, I don’t know why his has continued unabated.

toastmeahotcrossbun · 20/08/2020 21:55

Or perhaps he will just be 'camping' on the sofa, having been kicked out of bed.

Grin

Ok to be fair then it seems he is only claiming to be partially camping. I think they should perhaps just not have mentioned the camping at all in that case.

Is he adding that on to his annual leave entitlement for this year? Wouldn't want him to miss out.

The80sweregreat · 20/08/2020 21:57

I just can't see Boris camping , not even in a Boy Scout rubbing two sticks together , swallows and Amazon's style! Even as a kid I bet he preferred a comfy bed and Nanny's hot chocolate with marshmallows.
I did see footage of him rowing a boat as a child on tv once ( his sister said he always wanted to be King !) I can see him on a posh yacht or something flash like that , but under canvas : just no!
Anyway, we probably can't know anything as the security must be huge and the less people know the better I suppose.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 20/08/2020 22:00

Boris Johnson is no more camping than I am the Queen of England.

The man is exhausted by his own nonsense; he's been sent away like a small boy behaving like a twat, whilst the big boys try to cobble together some kind of masterplan to further destroy the UK. Boris is many things, a camper he is not.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 20/08/2020 22:01

In all seriousness I think he's probably had a little breakdown and is cosy at a Betty Ford clinic in the Nevada desert being taught kundalini yoga by a man named Wave who eats only fermented yoghurt made from the yeast his body produces.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 20/08/2020 22:07

Mentioned this to some friends on Monday who hasn’t heard that he was apparently camping. We all laughed about it for literally ten minutes. Not a chance.

Peregrina · 20/08/2020 22:08

Can't see him being in the desert doing kundalini yoga. Holed up somewhere with a good supply of alcohol on tap would be more his style.

kitschplease · 20/08/2020 22:11

I pressed the wrong button. Of course he isn't.
