Who is BU about annoying noise?

FuckBubbleOrBubbleFuck · 18/08/2020 11:31

In true time honoured MN fashion I'm using A and B and not saying which one I am as I don't want to influence it...

Person A has recently added skipping to their already extensive fitness regime. Person B is being slowly driven mad by the sound of A skipping - a really fucking annoying rhythmic thud thud thud on the floor for an hour, with breaks and then different thudding rhythms for different jumping styles. Thudding can be heard anywhere in the house (luckily not in neighbouring houses) and music etc doesn't cover it as it's a fucking vibrating thing that is like the fucking canon gun in Mary Poppins. Sometimes there is the sound of swearing if the rope is being a fucking wanker and tangling. Skipping cannot be done outside. Person A loves skipping and believes B is unreasonable for the following reasons

B has a sewing machine which makes a pleasant soothing low hum. This hum can stop and start as material is moved around and threads changed etc in the productive useful hobby of making useful things. The machine is thoughtfully situated on a cloth on the table which reduces vibration. A vibrating noise can very occasionally be heard when the cat runs under the table and the foot pedal is accidentally pushed all the way down in surprise. This may be followed by quiet swearing but at a lower volume than B and more inventively eg you fuckknuckle which provides pleasant entertainment for others.

B also feels that their labour is more productive as they make attractive garments and face masks (for the benefit of society) whereas the outcome of A's labour is mostly looking in the mirror and asking B if they can see the change in the shape of their such and such muscle. This also takes B's time away from sewing or thinking about sewing. Also one time B caught A measuring their legs with B's tape measure as they believed one calf was bigger than the other.

Which one do people think is being unreasonable here? I hope I've made it clear that I have been completely neutral.

Just in case, if people say B is unreasonable and A is right, I'm only asking for a friend who doesn't have a MN account

Nobody should be skipping inside!

footprintsintheslow · 18/08/2020 11:35

Tell him to stop skipping

RedPandaFluff · 18/08/2020 11:36

Completely neutral Grin

I think the skipping would drive me nuts and as PP said, it's really weird that this has to be done inside . . . you must have really high ceilings!

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 18/08/2020 11:36

Amazing attempt at being neutral there B Hmm Grin anyway despite that skipping inside should be illegal if it isn't already. I refuse to believe it can't be done outside unless you live on the 15th floor of a tower block only accessed by a motorway. A can go skip on the footpath like I did when I was 7.

FuckBubbleOrBubbleFuck · 18/08/2020 11:39

B loves MN Grin

We do indeed have high ceilings, also A is incredibly tall so apparently has to buy certain skipping ropes (A also insists on calling them jump ropes) from niche places. A would like to point out that A has done lots of research into the lightest ropes to reduce the thudding.

😂 impossible to tell who you are in this situation OP, but no one should be skipping unless outside or in a gym.

OhCaptain · 18/08/2020 11:42

B is a queen and A is a fuckknuckle.

I hope that hasn’t upset you if you’re A, OP. Wink

SamsMumsCateracts · 18/08/2020 11:43

Hello B!

Right, A and B to do their respective skipping and sewing at the same time, both wearing noise cancelling headphones with their own choice of music. All mirrors removed from house and A finds new similarly minded fitness fanatic friend with whole to share muscle size concerns. Cat told to kindly refrain from trespassing under table.

You're welcome Grin

SamsMumsCateracts · 18/08/2020 11:44

With whom!

EL8888 · 18/08/2020 11:44

What time of day are these activities going on at

Jump rope Hmm

SoupDragon · 18/08/2020 11:45

One person's soothing hum is another person's annoying thudding 🤷🏻‍♀️

merryhouse · 18/08/2020 11:45

Completely neutral, well done.

It's really hard to say who's being unreasonable here.

RedCatBlueCat · 18/08/2020 11:46

Completely neutral!!
Skip outside (is there a garden or yard?), or not at all.
I dont see how rope weight comes into it? It would be my weight, not the rope making the thud, I'm sure!

RandomMess · 18/08/2020 11:47

B should murder A in a thud induced rage.

Sorted.

AiryFairyArtyFarty · 18/08/2020 11:48

oh the suspense , which one are you ? Grin

Laaalaaaa · 18/08/2020 11:51

Could you have made it any more obvious you are B? You are the unreasonable one for using stupid A&B when it was clearly unnecessary.

FuckBubbleOrBubbleFuck · 18/08/2020 11:52

Ooh lots of replies, yeah good luck with telling my B's cat not to do anything...Cat is more unreasonable than A and B put together!

A would love to go to the gym to skip but the only available one is beyond our budget for A and B and A wouldn't just get their own membership. Definitely no skipping outside unfortunately - these two issues are more complicated and thread worthy all on their own! Not solvable at the moment though.

In fairness A does wait until everyone is awake and minimal people are in the house before skipping and never at unsociable times despite their preference to skip at 5am ideally.

Also A definitely does have calves worth admiring Grin

I'm assuming you are in the U.K. as jump rope is the American term. Fortunately in the U.K. we have these spaces set aside for outdoor activity called parks, in cities where people have less outside space around their houses (or none) there's quite a lot of these "parks". Grin

I have a fitness mad dd, I make her go outside to skip even in the rain

FatCatThinCat · 18/08/2020 11:54

Can the skipping ropes be fashioned into a noose? Do that.

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 18/08/2020 11:54

Naked skipping outside . Give the ndn a giggle!!

Heronwatcher · 18/08/2020 11:56

Skipping inside is totally unreasonable. You could be evicted for less if a tenant and you’ll end up needing to replace the floor unless it is concrete and/ or you weigh 6 stone. Person A needs to go to a park- at night if they are self conscious- or find some other way to exercise.

DaisyChainsForever · 18/08/2020 11:56

2 of my neighbours (different houses) have started skipping recently. They both do it in the garden. It's a horrible noise, thankfully both of them only manage about 10 minutes a day Grin Cant imagine how annoying it would be actually in the house! Is A going to be going back to a gym soon?!

DialSquare · 18/08/2020 11:57

@RandomMess

B should murder A in a thud induced rage.

Sorted.

With his "jump rope"!!!
Heronwatcher · 18/08/2020 11:58

Sorry, by park I mean “outdoor gym”, “parcours surface” or “jump-rope facilitation area”, your choice.

CorianderLord · 18/08/2020 11:58

I think you're both fine. You're living your lives and making noise in your own home: it's only an hour, so long as it's after 8am and before 9pm I'd get over it.
