To ask for a refund?

Staying in a Travelodge currently. Had the worst night's sleep because of the bed which is so hard I've spent most of the night trying to get comfortable. I've maybe had four hours sleep (last checked my phone at 2:30 ish and I've been awake since 6:30 ish)

Booked in for tonight but I'm genuinely thinking about heading home. I'm fairly sure the hotel is full so no chance of another room.

Wibu to ask for a refund?

If you don't ask you don't get I guess.

We stay in a travel lodge regularly and find the beds really comfy and maybe even a bit soft as we have a firm mattress at home.

Could you ask for a duvet or two to sleep on top of to soften it up a bit tonight?

rottiemum88 · 18/08/2020 08:11

I don't think it warrants any kind of refund. They provided a room, you used that room for the night. All mattresses are different and everyone likes a different kind of mattresses, hotels can't possibly cater for everyone 🤷🏼‍♀️ Personally, I like a really firm mattress

talkingkrustydoll · 18/08/2020 08:14

I don't think you will get a refund but as they say if you don't ask you don't get.

I used to work on a hotel and once had a lady ask for a refund because the decor made her depressed. I feel she may have been pushing her luck. The hotel did have an air of The Shining about it but she didn't get her refund.

moofolk · 18/08/2020 08:17

Don't they have a money back guarantee, or is that premier inn?

BiscoffAnythingIsTheWayForward · 18/08/2020 08:17

Unless they have a specific ‘sleep’ policy then I doubt you’ll get a refund because you didn’t like how firm the mattress was. I’m pretty sure Premier Inn have a sleep well policy with no quibble refund. Not that it helps you now of course but for future.

premiumshoes · 18/08/2020 08:18

I don't think Travelodge will refund you, and if they do I would not expect it at hotel level, it would need to be taken up with customer services. It's unlikely though. Travelodge are quite shit.

Premier Inn

SomewhereInbetween1 · 18/08/2020 08:20

Absolutely not. Just because a bed wasn't to your specific liking, it doesn't mean there's something wrong with it.

madnessitellyou · 18/08/2020 08:22

I got a refund from Premier Inn once because the air con was broken and heated the room to 28 degrees. Windows wouldn’t open.

You won’t get a refund because of the mattress.

I used to always sleep badly the first place somewhere new. I trained myself out of that.

queenmother · 18/08/2020 08:24

@madnessitellyou I always sleep terribly somewhere new. How do you train yourself out of it?

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2020 08:27

I normally sleep just fine anywhere but honestly the damn thing is so hard it's made my shoulders and back really ache.

I think you’d be cheeky to ask for a refund just because the mattress wasn’t to your liking. Put it down to experience and stay elsewhere in future.

OptimisticSix · 18/08/2020 08:28

Ask for a refund. I once 'slept' on a pull out in a Premier Inn (family room) and the matterrss waa awful. When I complained they said everyone who had slept on that had complained!!!! Honestly it waa awful, I would have much rather have got a decent nights sleep and not had to request a refund!

Pinkdelight3 · 18/08/2020 08:30

Do you mean a refund for tonight instead of staying on? That's more viable than a refund for the night you've already stayed there, but it depends whether you booked non-refundable and what the T&Cs are. Also worth seeing if they can move you as 'fairly sure they're full' doesn't mean much, esp as some people may be checking out today.

Trashtara · 18/08/2020 08:33

Travelodge don't have a goodnight sleep guarantee but whenever I have had an issue with them they've been really good, partial or full refund. I can't fault them to be honest (2 issues in 50+ stays).

premiumshoes · 18/08/2020 08:35

All the posters saying they got a refund at a Premier Inn really are not helpful. PI have a specific policy for this. That's why they have been able to get refunds.

madnessitellyou · 18/08/2020 08:36

@queenmother I just really focussed on relaxing and blocking out new sounds, trying to make imagine I was at home. At one point I was travelling a lot for work and needed to sleep!

premiumshoes · 18/08/2020 08:36

The beds are all the same so moving room would be a waste of time.

Yesyoudoknowme · 18/08/2020 08:38

I'd go and explain about the bed and ask to be moved to another room. If they are fully booked tell them you will be leaving - they may well find you another room (miraculously) or offer a refund. We did the Premier Inn sleep guarantee once (right by a dual carriage way - AC broken so had to have the windows open) - they paid up with absolutely no quibble.

premiumshoes · 18/08/2020 08:39

I'd go and explain about the bed and ask to be moved to another room

The bed will be the same in a different room

queenmother · 18/08/2020 08:45

There's no harm in asking. I think actually they have a policy on refunding or partial refunding if you're not happy. They really want their customers to be happy.

Lindy2 · 18/08/2020 08:46

You booked a budget hotel. I suggest you pay a bit more next time and you're more likely to get a better quality mattress or more options to switch rooms if needed.

They provided a room and a bed. I'm assuming everything was clean and tidy. You'd be pretty cheeky to ask for a refund but there's no reason why you can't at least ask if a different room is available, just in case it is more comfortable.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 18/08/2020 08:47

Mattresses tend to be harder in hotels because they're better than the ones we have at home.

If they have a policy, go for it. Obviously only if you are leaving because of it. Otherwise you'd be a CF.

im5050 · 18/08/2020 08:51

If you mean to cancel for tonight If it’s flexible booking you can cancel tonight’s booking before 12 midday today and you will get a refund of tonight’s booking
If you pre paid for the 2 nights then you won’t get any refund

premiumshoes · 18/08/2020 08:53

That is Premier In, not Travelodge.
