To ask for a refund?

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2020 07:35

Staying in a Travelodge currently. Had the worst night's sleep because of the bed which is so hard I've spent most of the night trying to get comfortable. I've maybe had four hours sleep (last checked my phone at 2:30 ish and I've been awake since 6:30 ish)

Booked in for tonight but I'm genuinely thinking about heading home. I'm fairly sure the hotel is full so no chance of another room.

Wibu to ask for a refund?

YABU. They can’t cater to everyone’s taste in mattresses. They gave you what you paid for: a room for the night.

So no, they won’t give you a refund because the mattress wasn’t to your liking.

ClaudiaWankleman · 18/08/2020 09:41

I think you should've asked last night if they could've provided a topped or an extra duvet to sleep on. Asking for a refund now is too late - you didn't give them a chance to change it.

You ate the steak, as Judge Judy says.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 18/08/2020 09:44

You can ask but they wouldn’t be unreasonable to say no. Mattresses are very much a matter of personal taste. You can’t please everyone. We regularly stay (on company money not my own so I can’t stay elsewhere) at a very fancy 5 star hotel where the mattresses are so soft I get backache, something I never suffer from the other 51 weeks of the year. Conversely, touring Thailand last year where they favour very hard mattresses, I slept like a log whereas the friend travelling with me felt like she was sleeping on logs.

I think Premier Inn have a good sleep guarantee but worth asking

She’s not in the Premier Inn. It says in the first line of the OP that she’s in a Travelodge.

I don't know how many times it needs to be pointed out but this is not helpful.

I travel a lot and travelodge have one of the best mattresses out there for me. It's nice and firm. I hate beds that are soft and springy. You can even buy them from sleepeazy.

QuestionableMouse · 18/08/2020 12:40

Honestly I've stayed in many many travelodges and never had a bed this uncomfortable. There's wire on the edge of the mattress that pokes into you.

A wire? As in a fault? In that case yes I think a refund would not be unreasonable, but as previously you would have to go higher than hotel level to get it.

Were you sleeping on the edge though?

QuestionableMouse · 19/08/2020 04:52

I'm so fucking uncomfortable that I can't sleep. I've been awake since 4:30 ish and I'm knackered.

Damn thing is rock hard. Even the kids are struggling to sleep on them. Can't wait to get in my own bed tonight.

The wire runs around the edge but it's raised so there's a weird hard ridge round the mattress.

incognitomum · 19/08/2020 05:02

Did you ask for a refund?

Marahute · 19/08/2020 05:09

Good Lord, why are still moaning about it on here. Did you speak to the hotel staff about it or not?

QuestionableMouse · 19/08/2020 05:12

Last night no, because I had my hands full with a teething over tired two year old. Were going home today thank fuck.

Also considering I've had maybe seven hours sleep over two days I think I'm allowed to have a moan.

AlCalavicci · 19/08/2020 05:18

Did you ask for / get a refund ?

I think you should of complained during the night , they don't know you had a bad night sleep if you complain in the morning .
Anyone could say that any time they use a TL to get a free night sleep.

Whenwillthisbeover · 19/08/2020 05:28

Oh come on, it’s a Travelodge! You don’t even get more than a tiny slither of soap and you want a refund for a hard bed? If they give you a refund for a hard bed they are effectively agreeing that anyone who stays with them ever is entitled to a refund. All their beds are rock hard.

Pay for a Crowne Plaza next time, their beds aren’t bad and you get nice biscuits in the room too. You will pay considerably more than a Travelodge though.

lyralalala · 19/08/2020 05:37

I would complain about the wire. That's not on.

We had a shit night sleep in a Travelodge because of a room issue and I was surprised that they replied to the email with a voucher for a free night. Not a refund, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. That was just before lockdown.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/08/2020 05:47

I would definitely complain about the wire.

alexdgr8 · 19/08/2020 05:48

you can ask, but they will probably refer you to head office customer services.
i don't think you have aright to demand it.
just right them a polite email, saying how disappointed you were, as you usually find all their beds super comfortable.
butter them up a little.
nothing ventured, nothing gained.
but don't get on you high horse, or you'll fall off, with a bump.

QuestionableMouse · 19/08/2020 06:58

I've probably stayed in 50 travelodges and never had a problem with them. This one sucks.

OP posts:
Mummyoflittledragon · 19/08/2020 07:49

Ok so if you’re a regular customer you’ll likely use another one. This is your angle to take. It’s definitely worth complaining and hopefully you’ll get offered free accommodation elsewhere. However, I would complain to staff at the current hotel so they know there’s an issue with the bed. I think you should have complained before. You didn’t mention the wire until the second night. Had you done so, I think you may have had a different response.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 19/08/2020 08:11

Travel lodge are banned by our corporate booking team because some of them are shocking. I stayed in one in London for work before this policy, the carpets were stained, no Central heating only an electric heater on the wall that was at best ineffective, single glazed one floor above and directly overlooking a very busy London road, most of the sealant etc in the bathroom was black and not by design, breakfast was some dubious looking fruit and a yoghurt in a bag. I stayed one night and they moved me. Lowest acceptable standard is now a refurbed holiday Inn or premier Inn

premiumshoes · 19/08/2020 08:59

So you chose to stay another night in the same room? I think you will have no chance now at a refund tbh. You didn't give them a chance to rectify the problem. The hotel stance will be that if it was so bad you would have told them after the first night.

Marahute · 19/08/2020 09:05

I don't think you will have a leg to stand on (regarding a refund) if you have stayed two nights and not given them the opportunity to rectify the issue in the first instance.
Moaning about it is all well and good, but that isn't going to actually achieve anything.
I hope you can catch up on sleep at home and feel better tomorrow.

ClaudiaWankleman · 19/08/2020 10:15

This wouldn't happen to be the one at Euston, would it @KarlKennedysDurianFruit ?
