To force vitamin 'drops' on baby if she hates them?

Drops in "" as they come with a syringe and it's more like a teaspoon dose (so false advertising from Wellbaby) but yes, LO absolutely dreads them and she's only 7 months. She firmly presses her lips shut and pulls away and I feel bad persisting. Should I try disguise in her food (but dont want her to go off her food) or switch to vit d drops only? Or any other recommendations?

Try the Abidec ones, much smaller dosage.

doadeer · 17/08/2020 20:38

I always added to porridge at that age. She won't taste them in food like that I don't think. Do you breastfeed or bottle?

1dathasnoname · 17/08/2020 20:39

I would recommend changing, my lo seems to prefer the healthy start multivitamins. It's only 5 drops, superdrug sells them online.

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 17/08/2020 20:40

Mix them into something. Do you need to give vitamins though? I thought if formula feeding it's not needed and if breastfeeding then only the mum needs them.
Guidance may have changed since my son was born though.

RedRumTheHorse · 17/08/2020 20:40

They taste foul. My DD did the same so I tasted them.

As PP said get the Abidec ones.

And keep these drops until you can mix them with food/cow's milk.

GrumpyHoonMain · 17/08/2020 20:40

I give them just before a meal as DS is more responsive then

tunasandwitch · 17/08/2020 20:41

Get the Vit D drops. Literally 1 tiny drop needed.
I never gave anything else to breastfed baby (nor was told to- baby is now 1)

Mummyofmay2020 · 17/08/2020 20:42

Breast feed. Thanks guys!! Will look into abidec

Agree about the foul taste

There are some that are just one drop you put on a clean finger or your nipple. They're from boots and don't taste of anything - they're only vit D though, not a multivitamin.

I’ve given DD these since she was 6 months. Sometimes she’ll have it straight from the syringe, it’s very slightly sweet but not at all strong, or I put it on porridge or in yogurt

OverTheRainbow88 · 17/08/2020 20:45

I used to mix into a yoghurt

Twizbe · 17/08/2020 20:50

I kept forgetting to give vitamins with my eldest. Never bothered with my youngest

dementedpixie · 17/08/2020 20:50

This says the dose is only 0.5ml

My kid has the Wellbaby syrup and has always loved it weirdly (I got a taste by mistake once and it's DISGUSTING Envy ).

Once I ought Abidec instead and she'd have none of it. Weird.

Just bung it on her porridge with a blob of honey, she'll never know.

BiscuitLovers098124 · 17/08/2020 20:52

I give drops twice a day as the liquid one dose was too big. I'd personally give it a rest for a bit. If you are giving her a varied diet she should be OK. Then try some new ones when she has got over that negative association with them.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 17/08/2020 20:52

My dd is 3 and was breastfed until not long ago. She never had the drops for the same reason. I took good quality breastfeeding vitamins and she is strong as an ox.

BiscuitLovers098124 · 17/08/2020 20:53

@VeniceQueen2004 they can't have honey under 1

sbhydrogen · 17/08/2020 20:53

I have the Wellbaby multivitamin drops but it's only 0.5ml. I found giving DD the liquid (5ml!) much more challenging.

Hide it in yoghurt; job done!

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 17/08/2020 20:54

I used to give dd abidec too but I put the tiny drop into her milk. I loved the smell of it though!

twins2019 · 17/08/2020 20:56

Abidec is the NHS recommended multivitamin. It's what they give to preemies in the neonatal unit and recommend it up to 2 years.

I give it to my twin boys with their weetabix and have since they were weaned.

Also - please don't give honey to a 7 month old. I'm sure PP meant well but it can lead to infant botulism and is not to be given to babies under 1 year.

AppleCinnamonSlice · 17/08/2020 20:56

Unless you have been advised by a paediatrician to give your baby vitamins then you really have no need to.

VeniceQueen2004 · 17/08/2020 20:56

@BiscuitLovers098124 you're completely right, sorry! Mike's three now so I've forgotten all the rules 😳 no honey OP? Maybe a drop of golden syrup do the same job?

dementedpixie · 17/08/2020 20:57

Thats untrue. All should be supplemented with vitamins A, C and D from 6 months to 5 years unless taking more than 500mls of formula per day

Blumbil · 17/08/2020 20:58

Put them in a bottle or in her food
