I keep seeing things like sht, fck and c*nt.

This is MN, you are allowed to swear. I don’t see the point in writing f*ck as anyone reading it is just going to say the word fuck in their head and I can’t believe any MN poster is so damn sensitive that they will swoon if they see the word fuck written in full.

I’m not saying anyone has to swear but if you are going to include a swear word in your post then do it properly.

YANBFU! Grin

The fact that random segments of a post are bolded due to the use of asterisks really annoys me. If you can't bring yourself to type fuck then don't bother with f*ck. There are plenty of other words that can get your point across and be typed in full with a clean conscious (though none are as satisfying as a well chosen curse word IMO) that won't mess up your formatting.

@SadSoVerySad

Am I the only person here who never ever lets a swear word, even the S word pass my lips?

The F word might be in my mind sometimes but I can't bring myself to utter it out loud. Can't even think, never mind say the S or C word.

I'm not a prude. I tolerate other people using swear words occasionally. However, I can't bear a constant potty mouth where every other word is a swear word.

Which is fine and there is no need to swear. But if I write f*ck, you read it as fuck, so what is the point?

I’m not saying if people should or shouldn’t swear but that if you are going to swear just do it, don’t piss about.

Maybe you'd be HappySoVeryHappy if you developed a potty mouth.

Who cares though? If someone does not want to swear then they are not obliged to? As long as they Don't go round correcting people who do then what is the problem.

Alexandernevermind · 17/08/2020 14:46

Each to their own. I dont swear, but as long as it isn't directed at me I'm not bothered about hearing it. I do have a problem with the c word, especially men use it. I think it's a horrible, misogynistic word.

loobyloo1234 · 17/08/2020 14:48

I swear on here more than I do in real life. It's just a release. No asterisks here when I'm calling people a cunt or a wanker Grin

But this is what I’m saying. Don’t want to swear, fine, I respect that. But if you are going to have swearing in your post just actually swear. Why piss about typing f*ck when everyone knows you mean fuck, and everyone is going to read fuck.

Why carp about an asterisk when you get the conveyed meaning in the end anyway? Other than to send out a smoke signal to all other fellow middle class types on here who revel in cursing as a signifier/badge?

I don't give a f*ck what you think about asterisks and will go out of my way to use them in future.

JuniperFather · 17/08/2020 15:06

Also your post is a great way of assuming everyone has been here since cancel the cheque, beaker etc.

Maybe some people come on here to actually post a dilemna, rather than have a swearathon with old timers on here.

Alexandernevermind · 17/08/2020 15:07

I used to be teased at school for not swearing! I'm at the stage in my life where I give zero f*s (intentionally ironic asterisks) about peoples opinions on how I talk, how I type. I am not going to be dictated to on here because someone prefers to see the whole word rather than a "you get the idea but I'm not going to say it in full".

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 17/08/2020 15:13

Fuck yeah! DH once described me as swearier than a drunken sailor who has stubbed his toe during a swearing contest Grin I have toned it way waaay down now as we have DD, I don't swear around her.

RonObvious · 17/08/2020 15:15

swoons

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 17/08/2020 15:15

Ugh, I hate the word 'pottymouth.' My ex husband used to call me it in a patronising and condescending way every time I dared to utter a swear word. Needless to say I divorced the TWAT!

GertiMJN · 17/08/2020 15:18

If you don’t want to swear then don’t. Just don’t pussy foot around with fck etc*

I agree OP. The pretence of not really swearing irritates me enormously!!

latticechaos · 17/08/2020 15:24

Agree about the word 'pottymouth' being condescending!

TrufflePioneer · 17/08/2020 15:25

I was roundly teased for much of my life for being a bit prissy about swearing - I had fairly victorian parents and although I knew of "the c-word" early on I would never have dreamed of ever speaking it out loud.

And then at the age of 26 and still unable to say the word cunt, I met my DH, who uses it freely as a term of endearment. I am now so accustomed to it's daily use that I can casually utter "All right cuntychops?" as a greeting without having an attack of the vapours.

I agree about the C word. I feel that if a man uses it, it is usually directed solely at women. So as a black woman, I feel even more uncomfortable hearing the use of the C word as I do with the use of the N word. Are women trying to reclaim the word, just as it's only okay for a black person to use the N word?
Orchidsindoors · 17/08/2020 15:55

I dont like swearing at people and dont think people should do it on here, theres no need. I also think if you have to swear, you are being aggressive and you've just lost whatever argument you were trying to make.

SadSoVerySad · 17/08/2020 15:55

😁

humidityhair · 17/08/2020 15:58

Never mind the swearing! I’ve just seen “inundated” typed as “in on dated” on another thread!!
