Just euugghhh Or is it just me???

My grandad always kept a pile of crossword books on the windowsill next to the toilet and it made me really uncomfortable 😂😂😂

Please say I'm not the only one who thinks it's a bit grim??

@Quinquagesima

My bathroom is a library (in that there are floor to ceiling shelves of books, as I ran out of space everywhere else in the house). I hadn't realised they were a health hazard.
My son's remark to me after he went to stay with his cousins on one of our UK trips was "and mum! They have a toilet in their library! - isn't that a great idea?!"Grin

I read once that people who read on the toilet have issues with letting go of a part of themselves- so they have to replace their lost poo with knowledge.
Also, I flush whilst seated 😀

Is unsavoury.

opinionatedfreak · 16/08/2020 15:26

I'm a doctor.

A mother once submitted a formal complaint about me because I told her constipated child that as part of the treatment they should have "toilet time" which involved sitting on the loo at the same time each day regardless of whether they thought they needed for a period of time and suggested that they maybe used the time to read a book or comic.

It made me change my career path as it was such a hassle to deal with. I now know nothing about the current methods for managing constipation.

I'm afraid I'm in the loo library school of thought and so are most of my friends/ family.

Ishihtzuknot · 16/08/2020 15:26

I cleaned for a woman who had a different book each week propped on a shelf next to her loo roll, couldn’t work out how she read them so quick unless she had a bowel problem
I find it weird id rather get on with it and leave, not settle down on the toilet engrossed in a book but each to their own

sixlemons · 16/08/2020 15:26

My old boss at work used to spend half an hour in the toilet every morning reading the Financial Times. At least I think that's what he was doing Grin

RiteAid · 16/08/2020 15:28

Also I rmember reading somewhere that if you have time to read there is something wrong with your elimination. It should not take any time at all if healthy.

Why are people so shocked that bowel disorders exist...? Between 10 and 20% of the population has IBS, and that’s only one of the many disorders that can mean it takes people a while on the loo.

It’s not a moral failing to have digestive difficulties...

SweetPetrichor · 16/08/2020 15:29

We always had comics in the bathroom for reading. Sadly, nowhere to put them in current place. I can't bring myself to worry about what germs might get them...it's going to be the same for anything else in the room. Life's too short to stress about that.

tellmetocalmdown · 16/08/2020 15:32

Good grief- stop your pearl clutching, they must be dust by now!

Nothing wrong with a book in the toilet FGS. Try it- its fun!

daisypond · 16/08/2020 15:34

We have books. Always have had.

tellmetocalmdown · 16/08/2020 15:34

Yes, because its not as if conditions like IBS, food intolerances, crohns disease, or other inflammatory conditions exist is it?- nope, they must all be figments of our imaginations!

Geez- bowel bragging- ive heard everything now!

AldiAisleofCrap · 16/08/2020 15:34

My friend has ds’s in her bathroom for guests to play with.

SerenDippitty · 16/08/2020 15:36

TBH I think a lot of constipation is caused by people rushing the process and not giving themselves enough time.

Babs709 · 16/08/2020 15:36

I’m a quick pooper, it takes no time at all. Also have a toddler so it’s gotta be fast. But I still like to keep a stack of magazines in there because you just don’t know when you’re going to get into a bit of trouble and I like to have something to do to distract me while I give it a chance.

Aridane · 16/08/2020 15:36

grim

minging

Bless - what words would you used for something that really was grim or minging ?

Babs709 · 16/08/2020 15:37

My friend has ds’s in her bathroom for guests to play with.

Crikey. I read ds = dear sons. Took me a while.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/08/2020 15:39

I wonder what people do in their bathrooms - or better how they do it -, if the whole room gets contaminated as a result Grin.

You can't ask them in real life obviously.

Pobblebonk · 16/08/2020 15:42

It's not in the least grim. Have a read, get up, wash hands. Touching the book is no more grim than touching the lid, rim or flush handle of the loo. I've managed to survive through a few decades of reading in the loo without catching any dreadful lurgies.

fsklgf · 16/08/2020 15:43

Also, I flush whilst seated

But... Why??

BinkyBoinky · 16/08/2020 15:48

I think it's gross as well. A friend of mine has a really swish apartment but in her very posh bathroom she keeps a pile of Vogues by the toilet. I always found that a bit grim.

CreatureComfy · 16/08/2020 15:48

Maybe schools should get onto this idea for exam revision tips...

StyleandBeautyfail · 16/08/2020 15:51

@Lockheart

Does no-one else realise that by closing the lid all you're doing is ensuring particles get fired much further at higher pressure? Instead of a smaller plume around the toilet, if you close the lid you'll just make sure even more of your bathroom gets a good coating.
This is a myth
SadSoVerySad · 16/08/2020 15:52

Toilets seats are always down in my house unless I am sitting on it.

Never ever use a phone or read a book while on the loo either.

Wash hands thoroughly, even when I have to get up in the middle of the night.

From reading posts some of the posts on here, its a wonder that we don't experience pandemics more often!
