Just euugghhh Or is it just me???

My grandad always kept a pile of crossword books on the windowsill next to the toilet and it made me really uncomfortable 😂😂😂

Please say I'm not the only one who thinks it's a bit grim??

My dh no word of a lie sat on the toilet for 2hr 30mins twice because he took his rubix cube in there with him, I watched that film a history of violence the whole way through while he was in there! He did the same again on the second occasion and honestly the film was the same film aswell this being about a year apart each time! The same bloody film twice honestly!!🙈

DanceItOut · 17/08/2020 19:53

I mean if I’m physically reading a book when I go to the toilet I take it with me but I don’t keep books in the toilet.

Hanywany · 17/08/2020 19:53

He said his arse had gone numb when he got off and he couldn't use his legs properly! 🤣

ravenmum · 17/08/2020 20:02

Hanywany, does your dh know that will give him piles?

Natsku · 17/08/2020 20:21

I don't keep a book in the loo as there's no room there but its kept on the chest of drawers in the hallway and I just grab it on my way in. Going to the loo is 5 minutes of peaceful reading time away from the children, I read even if I'm just doing a wee.

Was very glad I took a book with me when I had to go to the hospital with really bad constipation because they gave me an enema and I was stuck on the loo for about half an hour and without a book that would have been horrid.

Hanywany · 17/08/2020 20:24

@ravenmum yep all too well! But I think he just gets so carried away with the sodding rubix cube he ends up in a little world of his own on the toilet!! It was even worse when he used to smoke, he used to say I'm going in to my office! 🤦‍♀️

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 17/08/2020 20:27

I have been considering keeping a log book in the loo, but things are a bit tight at the moment so I'll just have to sit it out until I'm flush again. Grin

gothicmummy · 17/08/2020 20:43

My 11 year old will literally take an hour to poop because he's too busy reading a book on the loo or if he takes his phone with him he's there for ages because he's playing a game, it gives me the ick because I'm the one that then has to wipe his phone and the books with antibacterial wipes just in case.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 17/08/2020 20:43

Personally speaking I have a wee bookshelf in my loo, I always read while on the loo. Can't believe that so many people are aghast at the very idea

SurroundedByIdiotsEverywhere · 17/08/2020 20:48

Books? Most women are on their bloody phones to be interested in books... The amount of grime that phones are covered in is far worse!

GinWithRosie · 17/08/2020 20:55

@jux I have this one in my downstairs loo from Wayfair (I promise there was nothing dodgy in the box!)

I don't see anything wrong with this if you live alone and have the luxury of taking your time having a poo, without someone telling you to hurry up!
As a pp said, there are probably far mors germs on your average mobile phone than there would be on a book or magazine in the toilet!

A log book! Love it! Grin

Joeblack066 · 17/08/2020 21:05

@GlamGiraffe

It's horrible. All the gems transmitted. When you flush. Germs are propelled into the air so his books are a contamination hotspot. I've never understood why you go into peoples houses and they have a stack of books beside the loo I dont understand why people sit on the loo reading their mobile phones either.equally grim.. mi assume they dont anti bac them every time they walk out?
Not if you close the lid before you flush? And if you don’t, I’d be more worried about the toothbrushes and towels than a book tbh!

Without too much of a me rail/derail - do people wipe their phones with a microfibre and dilute disinfectant but clean the buttons and between with cotton buds (this feels very fiddly and takes a long time)?

Luddite26 · 17/08/2020 21:38

I cleaned somebody's house for over 20 years and they had the same rattan magazine rack next to there loo in all that time. It used to make me gip. Not that they would have worried abiut flying poo water landing on it most of tge time i went to clean they hadn't flushed all 3 loos!

Ken1976 · 17/08/2020 21:41

My daughter keeps the spare iPad in her bathroom and watches YouTube etc on it

GenevaL · 17/08/2020 21:42

I think it’s gross too! Touching them in between wipes?! Not sure why a poo needs to turn into a 15 minute library browse.

Serin · 17/08/2020 21:43

These people need more fibre in their diets. Surely there isnt enough time to start reading?

echt · 17/08/2020 21:49

Gross.

And in a bid to derail this thread, I also detest the baskets full of lavatory paper next to the pan. You know they don't close the lid before flushing so the unused rolls are covered in miscroscopic bits of shit and drops of urine.

And coronavirus if anyone happens to have it.

www.businessinsider.com.au/toilet-flushes-create-a-vortex-of-airborne-coronavirus-poop-particles-2020-6?r=US&IR=T

COVID isn't top of my list, it's the poo-ey bog rolls that do my head in.

Gbtch · 17/08/2020 21:49

GP advice “ if it doesn’t happen in 30 seconds get off the loo”
No time to read books ( or iphones)

Macncheeseballs · 17/08/2020 22:03

Sitting there with your arse hanging out reading a phone, book or paper is just a bit gross

Localocal · 17/08/2020 22:22

What difference does it make? You are going to wash your hands after you finish anyway, so if there was anything on the book it will be washed off then.

The cloakroom is where I put all the "humorous" books people give you at Christmas - those adult Ladybird books and the cat memes collections

bonbonours · 17/08/2020 22:25

I don't find it particularly gross just a bit weird and unnecessary. I don't know why anyone needs to spend so long sitting on the loo that they need entertainment while they are there... My son tends to leave books all over the house including on the bathroom floor but that's because he usually has one in his hand, which he's then put down to go to the loo.

When would this happen? You finish shitting, you wash your hands, you pick up your book. You don't wipe mid-shit and pick up your book again.
