Would you or your kids or teens lie on a bed with shoes on?

Just noticing in a lot of films and tv shows, people will fling themselves down onto the bed without kicking off their shoes. Sometimes to read, or talk on the phone, or stare moodily into space for a bit - so not just in complete exhaustion to sleep.

Admittedly I'm a fusspot who needs to take off bra and jeans and anything vaguely restricting in terms of clothing in order to relax properly and contentedly (either on the couch or the bed) but AIBU to reckon most people prefer to at least remove their shoes?

How is it comfortable otherwise?!

Yes. Occasionally. We also wear shoes from outdoors round the house. And shows on sofas here too.

mrbob · 15/08/2020 23:01

My shoes come off at the door- I think wearing shoes inside is a bit yuk. But I HATE on tv and in films when they do this. It is so unnecessary. I pretty sure there was a thread about it once before and someone said it was because it would spoil the flow of a scene if they stopped to take their shoes off but there are scenes where they are already inside etc or lying down and they still have their sodding shoes on

Shoes on sofas?! Why?
Twigletfairy · 15/08/2020 23:05

My husband does this all the time and it was really irritated him.

I'm.often feeding my baby in bed when my husband comes home from work. He often comes home, washes his hands then flops onto the bed with his shoes on. Anytime he comes home he stomps around the house with shoes on until I shout at him. Even our toddler shouts 'shoes off daddy' at him.

hopeishere · 15/08/2020 23:05

It's like the edge of of the heel if you happen to lie down on the sofa. I'm not stamping all over them or standing on them.

We don't wear shoes in the house upstairs because it's carpeted, less bothered about downstairs because it's wood.

DS2 will actively seek out shoes to chew so I need to start putting them in the cupboard under the stairs.

IL's do not have a shoes off house and DS1 will ask people to take their shoes off if they're coming up to his room. He won't even wear socks in bed at 4.

It's gross

OohKittens · 15/08/2020 23:09

No, shoes off at the door.

user1592512579 · 15/08/2020 23:10

We dont wear shoes in the house. Especially not up upstairs.

megletthesecond · 15/08/2020 23:12

No shoes in the house.
My kids often comment on that on tv. They're far from house proud but they would never have shoes in the house.

RyanBergarasTeeth · 15/08/2020 23:26

I dont but when dp gets pissed he sometimes climbs onto my bed and passes out with his shoes on. I go absolutely mad about it. Angry

ClickandForget · 15/08/2020 23:41

Shoes off at the door here but it's less to do with cleanliness and more to do with comfort. Same reason I wouldn't pay on the bed wearing shoes.

ddl1 · 15/08/2020 23:43

This somehow reminds me of the nursery rhyme about 'my son John, went to bed with his trousers on, one shoe off and one shoe on'! No, I would never wear shoes to bed; very uncomfortable and unhygienic.

WaynettaIsMyStyleIcon · 15/08/2020 23:48

I do this often. I just don’t feel comfortable without wearing shoes! They go on as soon as I get dressed even if I’m not going out anywhere, my feet don’t feel ‘right’ otherwise.

Mind you, I keep bras on all the time and find jeans comfortable, which seems to be another internet no-no, so I realise aibu here Grin

Flowers009 · 15/08/2020 23:56

disgusting

LioneIRichTea · 16/08/2020 08:15

I know what you mean OP! I know it’s not a bed but the majority of people wearing shoes or boots on Gogglebox! Especially the funny posh lady wearing her knee high boots- glhos on earth can you relax wearing shoes in the house!

jolokoy · 16/08/2020 08:17

No shoes in the house.

emmetgirl · 16/08/2020 08:20

Blimey. Chill a bit. Overreaction much.

merrymouse · 16/08/2020 08:24

No, would never do this.

I wonder if people do this more on tv and films because they are probably wearing new shoes that have never been worn outside, so it feels less odd?

Either way it always looks strange.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/08/2020 08:26

Definitely not, and my kids wouldn't either, however DP does and it drives me mad. He will also walk around the house with shoes on for hours. I hate shoes on the carpets. Don't mind on flooring, but I can't wash the carpets.

merrymouse · 16/08/2020 08:30

People obviously have different opinions about shoes inside, but if transport companies feel its necessary to remind people not to put feet on seats, I think it’s pretty accepted that outdoor shoes and furniture should be separate.

maddening · 16/08/2020 08:36

We take off shoes at the front door so. No one would get to the bed with them on.

wanderings · 16/08/2020 08:42

Of course, this is Mumsnet, where nobody wears shoes in the house ever, and to do so is "grim", "yuk", "crass", "gross" etc. I often wear trainers without socks anyway, another MN sin; and I probably would keep them on to slump on my bed.

I remember the leaflet advertising halls of residence at my university showed two students relaxing on a bed, their Reebok Classics on the duvet. I wonder if they've since updated the picture to socks and sliders (and masks)?

TV has never reflected reality: see many threads about differences between TV and real life (empty suitcases, empty cups of tea, etc). At least Bridget Jones wore trainers to chase after Mark Darcy in the snow, instead of being barefoot, as so many films would have shown her.

We dont wear shoes in the house at all and they come off on the door mat at the front door. I gate the idea of outside shoes being worn indoors and it stresses me like crazy when visitors don't ask and come in with them on (ha hem just leave your shoes ag the front door that's fine 😊)

Yesterdayforgotten · 16/08/2020 08:46

Or hate* I dont make them leave them at the gate I'm not quite that bad!
