I have very thick hair (Always hated it) and it turns a bit wavy, everytime I get it done the hairdresser always mentions I have a kink in it.

I have included a pic, this is what it looks like without anything done to it, so I have not brushed it, straigthened it or put anything on it just to try and show how thick it is etc.

I need a complete change, Something with very low maintinence, I don't want to spend hours styling it, straightening it etc

Been looking at ones like the pics I have posted, But not sure if something like that would suit my hair type?

Or could anyone recommend something for my hair type?

Have an appointment to get it done next week and I am so unsure what to do, I feel going that short would maybe be a bit much? I have never really liked any hair cut I have had as it never really seems to turn out like it does in the pictures etc

I think anything with an undercut (like the third pic) won’t fit your criteria of low maintenance because you had to deal with regrowth and growing it out again if you change your mind can be a pain.

I think you’d look good with a stylish bob too.

angelfishrock · 15/08/2020 16:12

short cuts are not low maintenance - they need some styling and frequent recutting. much harder work than long hair.

I actually find your 'unstyled' hair from the 1st pic really nice - but I don't like those overstyled and straightforward look pretty much half of the women are wearing. I would maybe chop of a chunk into a bob - something you can just do in a wash & go fashion. Your hair and waves are nothing that needs styling esp not straightening. just something blunt collarbone length would work.

angelfishrock · 15/08/2020 16:13

might be worth looking into the curly girl method to embrace the waves a bit more.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/08/2020 16:16

Those two styles you've shown would not work with your hair type at all, and they are definitely not low maintenance. Why don't you start with taking 4-5 inches off and see how you feel about it. You can also take more off in stages. I also recommend a hot brush. They are brilliant for quick and easy smoothing and styling.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 15/08/2020 16:21

Your hair looks and sounds like mine - very very thick and neither straight nor curly.

I've left mine long ( it's a bit longer than yours) but it's undercut which is invisible when down and looks quite edgy when up. It's made all the difference to the manageability.

Really short styles don't work for me - my hair is so thick they just look bulky not cute at all and my hair kink at just the wrong place for a bob - I was a slave to the straighteners!

Thelnebriati · 15/08/2020 16:31

What shape is your face? Theres a few low maintenance styles here;

StripeyDeckchair · 15/08/2020 16:51

I'd cut it so it sits just above your shoulders. Have a fringe and long layers to lighten the weight.

It will need cutting every 6-8 weeks to keep it looking good, depending on how fast your hair grows but then any good cut at any length does.

ravensoaponarope · 15/08/2020 17:28

I have your hair type and the last thing I would go for is a bob, the kinks would make both sides stick out in the same direction (trust me, I've been there)
The second style looks like it would work and be low maintenance, apart from the undercut part which looks great but would need redoing every one to two weeks.

LirBan · 15/08/2020 17:29

An undercut at the back would take thickness out.

LirBan · 15/08/2020 17:31

I like the side cut hairstlyes though. How hard is it to go to barber once every 6 weeks.

BadEyeBri · 15/08/2020 17:38

I have your hair and I have a big undercut and then shoulder length on top. Best of both worlds and I love it. DH cuts the undercut every few weeks for me. I see my hairdresser every 12-18months.

threesecrets · 15/08/2020 18:35

I'd keep it as it is. It will be much lower maintenance long.

threesecrets · 15/08/2020 18:36

I think you would be forever straightening and styling it if you got it cut like the 2nd or 3rd pic and not sure without seeing your features if it would suit you

threesecrets · 15/08/2020 18:37

Your hair is beautiful btw!

Chanjer · 15/08/2020 18:39

Really hard to comment without a jaw and chin

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 15/08/2020 18:52

I have thick light brown hair with a slight wave (but dye it all the time). I have had both hairstyles and am currently rocking the undercut one. I LOVE it. I love v short hair and have had a.No.8 all over before now.

Give it a go! A good hairdresser will be able to work with the waves and you could have something fab!

You will need a cut every 4 weeks but it is SO worth it!

aidtrt · 15/08/2020 19:07

someone asked for jaw and chin so uploaded another pic, this is what it looks like when its straigthened, I just honestly don't have the time to straighten it all the time so it just usually goes up in a ponytail and forgotten about. Which is why i feel a change would be good, I have basically had the same haircut for 15 years lol

loving the one in the second pic here, from the above link.

I had pink hair on Mat leave. I felt amazing!

Bluntness100 · 15/08/2020 19:11

Op I mean this politely but how old are you? These are images of very young, very slim very trendy women. Are you in this category? Do you feel you can carry off those looks because in reality they are very severe.

Personally I think you need to have your hair done for your face shape. I don’t know what to suggest, but I’d think long and hard about going for something very severe that suits women who are not possibly remotely like you.

FizzyGreenWater · 15/08/2020 19:14

Don't mince your words there Bluntness Grin

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 15/08/2020 19:19

@aidtrt. Bollocks to age OP! Hair grows back!

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 15/08/2020 19:20

Difficult to judge without seeing your face as bone structure is an important factor. A bob can look fabulous and youthful or quite frumpy. It doesn't just depend on the texture of your hair. It depends on the volume of your cheeks, whether you have jowls, double chin etc.

Considered a fringe?

RoseHarper · 15/08/2020 19:22

I agree with bluntness. The short haircuts you have shown are high maintenance and you need a certain look and style to carry them of, otherwise they could look frumpy. Short hair needs to ge cut really well to sit well, and needs more work and styling than long. Have you asked your hairdresser for advice?

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 15/08/2020 19:27

Bluntness might tell it like it is, but she is usually right.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 15/08/2020 19:30

Aren't there apps so that you can try out hairstyles?
