I have very thick hair (Always hated it) and it turns a bit wavy, everytime I get it done the hairdresser always mentions I have a kink in it.

I have included a pic, this is what it looks like without anything done to it, so I have not brushed it, straigthened it or put anything on it just to try and show how thick it is etc.

I need a complete change, Something with very low maintinence, I don't want to spend hours styling it, straightening it etc

Been looking at ones like the pics I have posted, But not sure if something like that would suit my hair type?

Or could anyone recommend something for my hair type?

Have an appointment to get it done next week and I am so unsure what to do, I feel going that short would maybe be a bit much? I have never really liked any hair cut I have had as it never really seems to turn out like it does in the pictures etc

I have thick wavy hair and it has been hard to find a style that works.

I have had it very short too like the photos when I was in my twenties, had to style it every morning , it was a PITA.

Mine is currently nearly elbow length, have been doing the curly girl method and it honestly looks the best it looked in bloody years, also easy in the mornings.

I think you might need a thickish fringe, hair layered a bit to take out some weight and length just below shoulders, then try curly girl for a few months.

LakieLady · 15/08/2020 19:34

I've got thick, wavy hair. I had a bob for years and years, but then got a shoulder problem that made it very painful to blow dry and straighten it (took ages to dry because it's so damn thick).

My hairdresser cut it to the same sort of length (jaw length) but cut some very subtle layers in it. I leave it to dry naturally and just twiddle it round my fingers as it dries, and it's the lowest-maintenance hair I've ever had apart from a very short crop.

Sceptre86 · 15/08/2020 19:35

I actually think your natural hair is lovely but I would just have it cut to just past your shoulders and see how you feel with it that short. Then maybe go shorter if you are ready for it.

The styles that you like are very 'trendy' and a lot more high maintenance than you think and as a pp has said you need a certain look to be able to carry them or would look try hard.

Maybe go for something a bit shorter first, then you could experiment with a different colour?

@Bluntness100

Op I mean this politely but how old are you? These are images of very young, very slim very trendy women. Are you in this category? Do you feel you can carry off those looks because in reality they are very severe.

Personally I think you need to have your hair done for your face shape. I don’t know what to suggest, but I’d think long and hard about going for something very severe that suits women who are not possibly remotely like you.

How!?

HermioneWeasley · 15/08/2020 19:47

How about one of these - works with your natural wave (and I second those suggesting you check out methods to enhance your natural wave) and is low maintenance. You can play with some balayage for colour if you want to experiment

I have hair exactly like yours. The photos of short cuts wouldn't work at all and would be high maintenance plus although they look interesting on the models I think most people look really severe with that kind of style.

The last ones posted of the very layered tousled bob would look great!

Bluntness100 · 15/08/2020 21:31

Lirban, eek, yeah I know, but she’s asking for honest opinions she can’t elsewhere..and those are some very severe styles that are hard to pull off. And once cut she ain’t growing that back any time soon.

I also think the Images hermione posted look great.😊

Srictlybakeoff · 15/08/2020 22:07

I have thick hair like yours and recently got it cut short . I love it but it’s not nearly such an adventurous style as the ones you have posted. The pink one is lovely but my thick hair- even when short - would never stay up like that even if plastered with product..
a short bob doesn’t work for me unless I spend hours on it , and even then it can be a bit of a helmet.
The pics that Hermoine posted are lovely but I think you would have to be very good at styling to achieve that effect
I think the first two you posted would be manageable . The second looks great but only if you are edgy enough looking to manage it.

Pregnantandredundant · 15/08/2020 22:32

If you want something low maintenance have you considered something like a Brazilian Blow Dry? It would mean no time straightening as it would take away all frizz. Then go to a good hairdresser and have a good cut, but I don’t think the hairstyles that you have posted are low maintenance at all.

Atalune · 15/08/2020 22:39

No, they won’t suit you. You don’t have the face shape for them.

You’re hair like is very high in the forehead so a side sweeping long choppy lob would be best. You should trying “plopping” you’re hair, it’s basically a curly way of drying your hair with a t-shirt. It’s all over tiktok etc.

I’d try and grow your hair a bit longer with lots of maintenance cuts as the ends are very dry and uneven.

I think a short cut would age you and be a lot of work.

Atalune · 15/08/2020 22:42

Your second picture is with significantly shorter hair?

I would add in some highlights and give your hair some dimension, and wear it like this

gobananasgo · 15/08/2020 22:52

Your first pic looks lovely. Is your hair this long now?

Second straightened one I don't like, but yes your hair is shorter and looks slightly broken / dry.

You could have your hair cut so it's shorter at the back and longer at the front? So a graduated bob / inverted bob ?

Which is the most recent photo ?

My 2p -

Your hair looks fab, bouncy and natural in the first pic and really drab in the second. I don't think your face shape or hair texture suits the straightening. Keep the bounce and get a style that suits it.

I too think you might really not suit the short styles you posted but, hell, you only live once. If you want to try it, do it. It will grow back!

I think your best bet would be a longer bob thing which lets you fling the front over to the side as suggested. I really dislike the graded shorter round the back style though, I'd have it all one length right round. Something like this. From this, you could experiment with going shorter. No fringe, all one length, no straightening!

I think the first pic from hermioneweasley would work well for you

QuentinQuarantino · 15/08/2020 23:01

I agree with Bluntness. The cuts in those photos, on a woman of average looks, age, size who doesn't have the time or inclination every morning to style her hair, will deliver a very different aesthetic.

Less Ruby Rose, more Big Boo.

Which is a great look if that's what you're going for of course 🙌.

Based on your pics, I think a choppy short bob would be great. Flattering, works with your texture and easy to style and go!

k1233 · 15/08/2020 23:46

Your forehead looks high. Have you tried a longer fringe? Doesn't have to be a full fringe, just shorter on a fairly thin section at the front. By longer I mean nose / mouth length. Just enough to lighten the front and give a bit of shape.

Arrivederla · 16/08/2020 00:26

Op - I have very thick hair and I actually don't think your hair is that thick... in the first pic it looks more fluffy than anything else.
