AIBU Bin rummaging 😡

Changing username for this as quite frankly it’s embarrassing!

I’m not stickler for food dates. Don’t mind if biscuits, bread etc are out. However, I do tend to stick to use by’s for meat, yogurts etc. I might give slight leeway, but definitely think use by dates are there for a reason!

On the flip side, H is terrible. Thinks you should eat anything, even it is furry, stinks and with a use by date of 5 years ago.

My absolute bugbear is that he bin rummages. He actually rakes through the bin bag demanding to know why it’s been thrown out and ranting about ‘There’s nothing wrong with it.’ Does all the time.

Anyhow, this morning I have thrown creamy coleslaw out that is four dates out of date. I have just caught him eating it with his lunch- he has plucked it out of the bin 😡🤢. It’s honestly made me feel quite stabby.

So AIBU to think he’s a dirty bin ratching bastard with a stomach of steel or should I just give up and embrace the salmonella!

Scrape it out so it’s mixing with the other stuff in the bin and/or pour bleach on it. Manky bastard.

Get a food waste bin or compost heap. I don't agree with throwing things away if they're still good but picking stuff out of the bin is disgusting.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/08/2020 19:42

I feel bin poor😂

binratcherswife · 15/08/2020 20:56

@rosiejaune we’re in the North West. Only 3 bins here too 😁

We have:-
Brown for food.
Black for general waste
Small black for paper and glass
Green for garden
Small green for tins and plastic
A blue bag for cardboard

Hercwasonaroll · 15/08/2020 21:05

How much are you throwing away that this is even a problem?

Sounds like you buy too much food.

binratcherswife · 15/08/2020 21:50

Just to say thank you to everyone who has replied. Sorry I can’t answer you all. Some posts have really made me laugh. I already adopted the term ‘Bin wanker’.

Just to clarify- Yes this week I have thrown quite a bit away. We have been away and the older kids just haven’t eaten what’s in the fridge. It’s an exception rather than the norm. Doesn’t excuse H’s dirty bin ratching ratty ways though.

@EatDessertFirst

Thats just fucking rank. I couldn't live with have sex with someone who ate food out of the bin. Couldn't even kiss him on his bin-juice-coleslaw mouth. Grim.

I agree judgement should be used when deciding what should be thrown away. Anything dairy, meat and rice especially should be treated skeptically. A lot of bacterial toxins release no smell so the sniff test isn't always reliable.

Chuck food straight in the outside bin. If he is skanky enough to go through that bin, I'd be seriously reconsidering your relationship with the dirty beggar.

Absolutely agree.
Hercwasonaroll · 15/08/2020 21:52

It does. Because if the food doesn't need to be thrown (which it doesn't because he ate it and is fine) then stop throwing it away.

Leflic · 15/08/2020 21:58

@whirlwindwallaby

How exactly do you eat coleslaw out of a bin? The plastic container and the food still need to go in separate bins even if you don't have a food waste bin.
Only if the plastic container can be recycled, which our council can’t. No food waste bin either. Luckily I’m not a food waster ( and make my own coleslaw anyway) but otherwise it’s all landfill round our way.
hardboiledeggs · 16/08/2020 08:53

That's grim 😬

diddl · 16/08/2020 16:21

Just for clarity Op-was the coleslaw still in a sealed container when he took it out of the bin?
