To want to live in a temperate climate

botswanabanana · 12/08/2020 16:10

Live in s east and I'm struggling. There's been a run of 'topical nights'which is apparently when it never gets below 20 at night
Daytime is insufferable.
Where shall I move

Move further north?

The U.K. is temperate though. I've lived in countries twice as hot as this. The difference i think is modern housing design in the U.K. it's pants and houses just don't stay cool the same as they do elsewhere.

CoRhona · 12/08/2020 16:19

It's hideous (also in SE). But this is England so it won't last much longer...Wink

botswanabanana · 12/08/2020 16:19

Twice as hot as 35 c?

I live in a victorian house and it's quite cool.as they go. But not air conditioning

24°C would be considered heatwave weather in Ireland so that might suit you!

PetCheetah · 12/08/2020 16:23

The west of Ireland. Although I'm in West Yorkshire and it's usually not too bad here although awful the last few days.

Mintjulia · 12/08/2020 16:28

Shetland?

My sis lived in north Wales for a while and all her neighbours used to flop around groaning when the mercury hit 72. Smile

LaurieFairyCake · 12/08/2020 16:28

Here Confused

EvilPea · 12/08/2020 16:28

Im 100% with you, its just too hot. Im shit in the heat, Im hot, tired and grumpy. I can't get anything done which then pisses me off more.
I don't think I've known the run of hot nights, like this week

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2020 16:30

This is a temperate climate, even in the SE. That doesn't mean we never get hot days or cold ones.

GreyBow · 12/08/2020 16:30

Not quite, but I have lived where it is twice as hot at night time with temperatures of 40 at night.

botswanabanana · 12/08/2020 16:30

Further north good call, DJ works in London but is going to wfh 3 days from now on

Its been hot since April, mostly, apart from a little bit of July. It didn't used to be normal in the UK to be this hot, especially at night.
UK used to be temperate, now it's just weird. Months of rain, then months of heat. Let me know if you find it OP, I'm coming!

RedCatBlueCat · 12/08/2020 16:41

You do live in a temperate climate!
You might prefer somewhere with a drier heat - it's the humidity that gets me in the UK.

Mintjulia · 12/08/2020 16:46

The last few days I’ve had a siesta.

I was working by 7.30 this morning, and packed up at 1pm. I’ve been lying on my bed reading and watching the lightning ever since. I’ll do some more work when it cools off a bit.Smile

Sophiafour · 12/08/2020 16:48

This is a temperate climate. The weather, on the other hand, varies dramatically....

As others have said, North Wales, Northumberland, Scotland, or Ireland might suit in summer, but then you have to take the risk of snow and ice in winter along with that.

And the weather has been changing for at least the last 30 years. Anyone who thinks climate change isn't real just hasn't been paying attention. One of the issues in England, though (well, Britain) is that our houses aren't built to cope with extremes of weather, hot or cold.

Literallynoidea · 12/08/2020 16:53

The UK is temperate OP!

Welcome to Anthropomorphic Global Warming causing Climate change.

evilharpy · 12/08/2020 17:01

I'm from NI. East coast. It's never really hot (rarely gets beyond 20deg - it's 23 today and my mum is apparently melting and unable to sleep). It does however rain a LOT and it's windy so the rain is usually sideways. There is never any snow to speak of, a wee sprinkle but then it rains and washes it away. I never saw proper snow till I moved to England in my early 20s.

I want to move home but the shit weather/lack of summer is the only thing that has been putting me off.

LonelyFromCorona · 12/08/2020 17:02

We are in one of the most temperate countries. Go south to mainland Europe or Africa for hotter, or north for colder (and far more snow etc) in places like Iceland/Norway

We typically get 2-3 weeks of this kind of heatwave a year.

IfNotNowThen2 · 12/08/2020 17:05

No, not for the past few years, we have had way more boiling hot weather. Months of it! It bloody fucking isn't temperate!

lazylinguist · 12/08/2020 17:09

Try Cumbria. It's 27 here today, but that's practically unheard of and it's only like that since yesterday. A week ago it was about 15, and raining (as usual).

lanbro · 12/08/2020 17:09

I'm struggling at work, coffeeshop with big fridges and a very hot kitchen, but my house very cool. Good insulation, you can feel the difference when you step inside, and the heat hasn't affected me at night.

I live in the NE, enjoying the weather and would rather this all year than the bitter winters!

PicsInRed · 12/08/2020 17:12

It's been 32° for hours now, save me 😂

Norugratsatall · 12/08/2020 17:12

See I don't get all this fuss about the sudden 'tropical nights'. We've had heat waves before with nights that don't drop below 20° and I don't recall that this is any worse. I'm in the SE too. Looking forward to some thunderstorms hopefully tomorrow! Hate the heat too OP so feel for you...hope you feel cooler soon.
