To want to live in a temperate climate

botswanabanana · 12/08/2020 16:10

Live in s east and I'm struggling. There's been a run of 'topical nights'which is apparently when it never gets below 20 at night
Daytime is insufferable.
Where shall I move

Fluffy / Riseup
Yup, San Francisco has perfect weather. I prefer Santa Cruz but its a perfect climate

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 12/08/2020 20:39

San Diego Climate is even better than San Francisco. Flip flops year round and a sea breeze. Rarely hot, rarely cold.
We used to freeze everytime we went to San Francisco for the day, my kids had a drawer full of Hoodies with SFO and a logo on, as every time I would forget to throw them in the car and so bought new.

Nanalisa60 · 12/08/2020 20:41

Move to the north east Scotland !!

LightAsTheBreeze · 12/08/2020 20:50

I’m in Northamptonshire and it’s horrible this heat, every time I try to do something I break out into a sweat, we just missed a storm which may have cooled it down but it passed us by and I have just noticed that my feet have swollen a bit so now I have them over the arm of the sofa. I hope it’s a bit cooler tomorrow but the expected storms look to the west of us

Lelophants · 12/08/2020 20:52

Uk is generally very temperature. Global warming for you.

Actually by the sea is always more temporate! Sussex way. There is a cool sea breeze so never as hot in summer and never as cold in winter.

HorsePellets · 12/08/2020 20:57

@LonelyFromCorona

We are in one of the most temperate countries. Go south to mainland Europe or Africa for hotter, or north for colder (and far more snow etc) in places like Iceland/Norway

We typically get 2-3 weeks of this kind of heatwave a year.

Norway. Snort. It’s 25 in fucking Bergen today, and 20 in Trondheim. And that’s in the shade. Global warming is shite, we’re all doomed.
missingmum · 12/08/2020 20:59

It's been absolutely awful the last 5 days (SE) 34-36 during the day and lowest 26 at night, bloody ridiculous weather!

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2020 21:25

Don't get AC. It's hideous and places where they have it tend to use it far more than necessary and cool to ridiculously low temperatures. If you have to wear a jumper inside in the summer but then heat your house so that you can wear a t-shirt in the winter, you're doing it wrong.

In the UK there's rarely more than half a dozen days in a year hot enough to justify using AC, and you can get through that fine. Aim to do only what you absolutely need to, then spend the rest of the time sitting around with a fan and a cold drink.

Meruem · 12/08/2020 21:36

In your opinion. I am peri menopausal and anything over about 24 means I need my AC on at night. That’s way more than half a dozen days. It’s been on 24/7 these past “half a dozen” days and I don’t know what I’d have done without it. And I’m not wearing a jumper, just a vest and knickers. If I took anything else off I’d be indecent and I’m not sure my adult DC would feel comfortable with that! I get really ill in the heat to the point where I pass out. Remember that summer 2 years ago, there was weeks of it. And it’s only going to get worse. And yes I am well aware my AC contributes to that. But if you can be so flippant then you have no idea how some people suffer in this weather.

IceCreamSummer20 · 12/08/2020 21:38

Ireland, Scotland and Wales all have a lot of rain, and with climate change storms and flooding.

Mumratheevergiving · 12/08/2020 22:00

I used to live in NI...definitely not a hot spot!

EvilPea · 12/08/2020 22:21

I’m also not entirely sure everyone getting air con is great for helping with climate change... so increasing the frequency and temperature of hot days

bumblingbovine49 · 12/08/2020 22:31

FFS not this again . We do live in a temperate climate. This is not
I live in the south east , I am.obese and old and I am sleeping just fine with a fan on.
Yes it is unpleasantly hot in the afternoons and the moment but we have temps of mid 20s due from tomorrow and lots of rain for at least a week ( first week o my holidays too Hmm). We have had a few days of very hot temps , maybe a week this month . We had about 3-4 days of it in July. It really is not that bad and even if it is, it is not for.long.

You are all mad as badgers Grin

pineapplepalmtree · 12/08/2020 22:36

north east coast been 20-23, here with a nice coastal breeze

bumblingbovine49 · 12/08/2020 22:40

@Tumbleweed101

It’s only a couple weeks a year it gets this extreme, generally speaking. It isn’t enjoyable in the heat of the day but I love the balmy mornings and evenings.
Exactly. I love the early mornings and the late evenings . The afternoon sweating isn't great but I've found it easier to deal with when I am working actually as it stops me thinking about it and making it worse.

I absolutely agree you have to acclimatise though. I liked the 2018 summer after the for week or so as I got used to it and just didn't feel as hot as everyone seemed to say they did. I also dont expect to be able to carry on as normal , I adjust how I live a bit

PileofToss · 12/08/2020 23:06

I live in the NW and it’s currently like being in a damp oven 🥵

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 13/08/2020 00:33

I always thought temperate meant countries like Italy, Spain, Greece anyway. I thought U.K. was too cold to be temperate!

Guylan · 13/08/2020 00:44

15c seems to be the top summer temp in Iceland. I would hate such a cool summer mind you. This heat is rough but let’s face it it’s not many days of the year in the U.K. like this.

evilharpy · 13/08/2020 07:27

I normally love the heat and never complain about it but the last few days have been horrible at night, just really really sticky. Sometimes a thunderstorm and bit of rain seems to clear the air but if anything last night felt worse after the storm.

Staffy1 · 13/08/2020 12:56

Still no rain here...but that's typical of my area. Always shows on the weather forecast and as it's gets close to the time, the forecast changes to push the rain back or it just disappears altogether. There must be some strange phenomenon that makes rain clouds avoid this particular area.

LightAsTheBreeze · 13/08/2020 14:16

Lots of thunder and rain in Northamptonshire this morning and raining again now, the flowers look all perked up, so am I. Temperature about 23-24C inside now so much better. The rain originally looked like it would miss us but we had quite a bit

mrsBtheparker · 13/08/2020 21:12

In your lifetime how often have you experienced a week of exceptionally high temperatures? We do live in a temperate climate, with blips.

minipilling · 13/08/2020 23:21

Anyone know anywhere that doesn't get crazy humid during the summer? I have real issues with humidity and my health plus changes in barometric pressure. I always daydream about moving somewhere with dry summer, dry winter, minimal pressure swings. When I was living in Germany the summers were brutal, currently in Yorkshire!

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 14/08/2020 21:37

Anyone know anywhere that doesn't get crazy humid during the summer?

High plains desert. Super dry low humidity low rainfall. Nevada meets this requirement.

RedCatBlueCat · 15/08/2020 07:59

Nevada is 43C today, with a min of 31C, according to Google.
Not sure that will meet the temperature requirements!
