No! Gave that up on the last day of term. My did still reads/draws/writes of her own choice, but definitely nothing formal. What about you, OP?

Somethingsnappy · 12/08/2020 12:57

DD!

mamaoffourdc · 12/08/2020 12:57

Nope! It's the summer holidays!

Newdaynewname1 · 12/08/2020 12:59

Yes, a bit of maths and english plus reading every day. we had a full online curriculum from school as well, so feel ready for the tear ahead!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/08/2020 13:00

Yup ... DD started Y7 in September and had had a fair bit to do over the summer, maybe to try and make losing all that transition time less disruptive?

She's a kid who's always needed lots of support especially maths (no SEN, just struggles generally) so I'm now even more worried about her falling through the cracks than I was before Sad

AriettyHomily · 12/08/2020 13:00

Reading and a times tables sheet every day but we always do that in the holidays

QueenofLouisiana · 12/08/2020 13:00

DS is going into yr11, so he is working. He’s had 2 weeks off and started again yesterday. He does a few hours each day plus his tutoring for science, which is 2 hrs a week (he asked for this as he knows he needs to pass and that he needs help to do so).

californiaherewecome · 12/08/2020 13:02

Yes we are still doing some maths/reading etc - I seem to be in a minority in our school group!

Yes. Ds is doing his GCSEs this coming year so no option there. Other dc are doing maths and reading as a minimum.
Not every day.

Lockdownseperation · 12/08/2020 13:06

Despite my plans we are doing very little. My DD is about to enter reception and we still need to work on number formation (it’s on their list of things before starting reception sent from school) but she is not very interested. I was planning on doing a bit more phonics so she doesn’t forget them. I will attempt again next week.

caramac04 · 12/08/2020 13:06

Yes, I childmind 3DGC, I find they need structure or they start arguing. It’s been too hot to do much outside.
We walk the dog then each child has maths and English separately.
The youngest child has handwriting practice and we read together, this has really improved these skills.
The older two read independently.
We play games in the afternoon and I do allow screen time because they enjoy it and I can prep dinner.

FourEyesGood · 12/08/2020 13:07

No! It’s the holidays! They read independently anyway, but we’re definitely not doing anything formal.

MsEllany · 12/08/2020 13:08

Yes - my twins start y7 in sept and the school sent a work pack home. They do this every year, it’s more ‘fun’ than normal work but they do expand on the topics therein.

Just a page or two a day.

Summer294756 · 12/08/2020 13:08

We aren't doing any. My kids will be going into yr2 and yr5. Homeschooling was hell for us and was having huge negative effects on the family.

Emmelina · 12/08/2020 13:09

Reading is daily routine anyway, the two younger also keep up with their TT Rockstars each day (no arguments because yay screen time! Wink)Other than that, it’s the holidays. Very little routine, too much sugar and screens, the usual!

MsEllany · 12/08/2020 13:09

They also both have SEN, I didn’t want them to fall even further behind - my most affected child is in the bottom 1% of his year group.

chellochello · 12/08/2020 13:09

Nope it's the summer holidays and we all need a break after the stress of home schooling for months - kids still read/draw etc but it's their choice - no way am I forcing more work on them they need time to relax and enjoy themselves before back to school properly in a few weeks

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 12/08/2020 13:13

yes.

Though that's not totally abnormal - they'd be a week of nothing when we were away on holiday and just over a weekwith family and a birthday where nothing would be done - rest of time continuing their usual extra.

It started when DC were much younger and struggling and little and often was key.

Also have one going into Y11 - I trying to get to do more as well.

Plus they've all been given work from secondary to do this summer as well.

At most it's 1-2 hours a day.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 12/08/2020 13:17

No way ! It’s their school holidays ! They will be completely burned out by the time they go back .
My dd is 7 so she just does her reading at bedtime and she also spends a lot of time writing letters so maybe you could class that as English lessons ?!!
She also wants to know prices of everything and calculates anything got to do with money regularly so there’s a bit of maths thrown in.
We go to the playground every day and have been to the farm and zoo last week so there’s some pe and some kind of science thrown in too.
So actually yes we are continuing with homeschooling GrinHaloGin

AlphaDalpha · 12/08/2020 13:18

Yes, focusing on a skill DS struggles with, a short burst every day.

Pepperwort · 12/08/2020 13:18

Trying to do a little. Mine need a couple of pick ups in maths and I try to encourage a bit of informal writing - diaries, letters, that sort of thing. Weather doesn’t help, for any of us.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 12/08/2020 13:19

No

LannieDuck · 12/08/2020 13:41

Yes, a tiny bit. We stopped at the start of the holidays, but my youngest especially was getting really bored, and the eldest was just on youtube all day (DH and I both trying to work FT).

Last week I started doing 30 mins of work with them mid-morning and it's really helped. It breaks up their morning and they're keen to go back to their own thing after we're done. I want to keep it going for the rest of the holiday if I can manage to.

Star81 · 12/08/2020 13:45

Do you normally do school work during summer holidays ?
