Colleagues who have come back after being furloughed doing as little as possible.

For clarification I was not furloughed and worked through having suspected coronovirus (my choice). It has taken me a long while to feel anything close to normal but wanted to do as much as I could to help my boss out during a difficult time. A lot of staff were furloughed and are only now starting to come back. The thing is, even though they don't do the same job as me they are doing the very bare minimum and it is so frustrating. They seem to be doing less than they were before and nothing is being said. They are meant to fill up the stationary so that it is available just to lift when needed - they are now just dumping it in a cupboard and you have to fight your way through a pile of boxes to find what you need and then open it and sort it out. I am getting really pissed off. Oh and they were chatting most of the day and they aren't even trying to hide it. Do some people have no work ethic at all? Really pissing me off.

Your medal is in the post OP. Hmm

WaterOffADucksCrack · 12/08/2020 15:30

Bargebill19 It's disgraceful. One of my staff took it upon themselves to shield despite not having a letter (they have very mild asthma, don't even bother to carry their inhaler with them). They then kicked off because their annual leave got refused (it's first come first served and we can only have a maximum of two off from each department as we're a small care home). Meanwhile we've all been working so hard to remain covid free and haven't had a break.

Another staff member who works at the company my friend run a was furloughed. They were being brought back on a school hrs rota which would work for them and their childcare. They said "no thanks I'd rather stay furloughed". Guess who will be first in line for redundancy!

This is some top shelf arse crawling. Theres one in every work place. Your own personal Jesus.

EBearhug · 12/08/2020 15:39

I think it depends also on the physical environment - in the current heat, I am happy for colleagues to just get through. We can worry about productivity after the weather breaks. Not every workplace has aircon.

Bargebill19 · 12/08/2020 15:41

@WaterOffADucksCrack. That’s amazing at staying covid free well done!
Yep sorry to say some people just want the perks of working without actually working.
They have zero ability to see how this will bounce back on them. They will also be the first to complain when they can’t survive on universal credit or at best minimum wage.

I get it, a long paid for holiday is nice, but it can’t continue forever. It would be nice if they didn’t moan about it to those of us who had to carry on working.

coconutwhip · 12/08/2020 15:44

I'm sorry you went to work with suspected covid.... what a stupid thing to do!
It makes you no better than anyone else in fact it makes you worse

comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:04

For clarification when I had suspected covid I self isolated but continued to work so no need for everyone to get their knickers in a twist!

OP posts:
Daphnise · 12/08/2020 20:08

You went to work suspecting you had or having, the virus.

That is a disgrace.

Yet you seem to be demanding bonus points for it.

SummerHouse · 12/08/2020 20:09

My knickers are still a bit twisted. Confused
Did you work from home with suspected covid?

comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:12

Oh and the people who were furloughed have been back about 3 to 4 weeks - most of them are part time so don't work all week. I don't resent those being furloughed - they had no choice in the matter. What I do resent is them doing not a lot now they are back and expecting me to do part of their job.

OP posts:
comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:13

SummerHouse I did with sleeps in between. My job and caseload made it such that I had to have some input but honestly all I wanted to do was be off.

YABU. If you have a problem with the way a colleague works, maybe report it to a manager. There are always going to be people who don’t pull their weight and (hopefully) procedures to deal with them. You are implying that people who were furloughed lack work ethic - a huge and unfair generalisation. I get that you weren’t in the office whilst you were ill, but I doesn’t seem relevant for you to mention it at all.

comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:15

For those thinking I am a martyr, I am certainly not - I don't want to work as hard as I do and would prefer to cut my hours - I'm knackered. However, it seems that isn't possible in my job apparently and I either need to suck it up or go elsewhere, although I am in my 50s so it won't be easy.

OP posts:
comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:18

redcarbluecar where did I say that. There are others who were furloughed and have got straight back to work with the same work ethic they had before. Some others just can't be bothered.

OP posts:
Fatted · 12/08/2020 20:18

I want to know how you coped for all this time without a well maintained stationary cupboard! It must have been so hard for you getting your own biros out of the box and your own post-its out of the cellophane.

comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:20

user1471565182 I can assure you I was not arse crawling as you put it and I certainly won't be any better thought of - I am well aware of this. I was just trying to help out to the best of my ability in a difficult situation.

OP posts:
comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:21

Fatted on ffs when two people who are supposed to do it stand there chatting while you have been run off your feet and watch you humph boxes out and don't do anything to help then I'm sorry but I do have a gripe.

Why did it take you 24 hours to say that ?
Yanbu about your colleagues not working when in work but I imagine they were probably like this before .
I do agree with others you sound like a martyr.

SillyUnMurphy · 12/08/2020 20:26

That isn’t how you made it sound in your OP: but wanted to do as much as I could to help my boss out during a difficult time. You had a choice and you certainly didn’t have to work when you suspected you may have had Coronavirus
redcarbluecar · 12/08/2020 20:28

You implied that there is a link between having been furloughed and lacking work ethic. If your post is simply about some lazy colleagues you didn’t need to mention furlough at all. I can see this would be a frustrating situation at work, but not sure what type of response you’re after here.

IncrediblySadToo · 12/08/2020 20:32

Interested to know how old you are & how junior:senior you are to the other staff?

Choochoose · 12/08/2020 20:32

If during a global pandemic your employer wouldn't allow you to have time off to rest when you have symptoms, then maybe it's time to look for another one anyway.

comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:38

IncrediblySadToo we are actually all a very similar age, although a couple of the women do junior rules, but not junior to me as such - they are in a different department.

As mentioned before I have no issue with furloughed staff - it is what it is. I have an issue with people coming back to work and basically taking he piss.

OP posts:
CitizenCandyKane · 12/08/2020 20:38

@BubblyBarbara

I sympathise with you OP. I suspected early on that people who worked through would get the short end of the stick and no extra time off once the furloughed came back Angry

You'll just have to take solace in being considered important and useful enough by your employer to have stayed on rather than be marginal and unimportant enough to furlough. Hopefully those lazy lot will be first back out the door if the recession bites so keep working hard.

Possibly the most arrogant post on mumsnet Hmm
comfyslipers · 12/08/2020 20:40

redcarbluecar just saying what I feel. Surely if you have been off for months you would think you would want to come back and work. They have all said they were fed up at home (well, with the exception of a couple), so why wouldn't you just work. I don't get it. If you are at work you should work. If you're not you can do whatever the hell you like.
