To ask for teeth whitening hacks

I have really discoloured yellow/brown teeth and I hate it. I don't know why because I've always religiously brushed my teeth twice a day. I do drink a lot of coffee but no red wine or anything like that. I'm beginning to feel very self conscious about it. Tried all the supermarket whitening tooth pastes which do bugger all. Does anyone have any wonder products they can recommend? Or lifestyle hacks that might help?

Otherwise I'm seriously considering taking out a loan for proper cosmetic teeth whitening. I get married next year and can't bear to see myself like this in photos.

Perhaps try the style and beauty forum.

Frenchtoastie · 10/08/2020 22:07

The only thing that will whiten your teeth is professional tooth whitening at your Dentist

MonkeysAllGoWoo · 10/08/2020 22:35

The dentists do it for quite cheap apparently.
Speak to them!

How often do you see the hygienist? I went for the first time in a while before lockdown and was shocked at the difference. I also use oral b pure luxe white (I think that's what it's called. It's white. Removes 100% of stains as opposed to the blue/purple one that only removes 80%). It makes a great difference.

Hairthrowaway · 10/08/2020 22:39

Don’t take out a loan for it😂 save if necessary but it’s certainly not worth getting into debt

Get a scale & polish at your dentist or visit your hygienist as soon as you’re able to. This should remove the coffee stains.

Boots sell a decent whitening kit which makes a subtle difference (whiteglo). Just use that until you can afford proper whitening at the dentist

Hairthrowaway · 10/08/2020 22:42

Obviously drink less coffee or try and drink through a straw

Hairthrowaway · 10/08/2020 22:43

Brush your teeth more frequently, if you do so after drinking coffee your teeth will be less susceptible to staining

Custardandnoodle · 10/08/2020 22:44

Crest white strips

FooFighter99 · 10/08/2020 22:45

I’ve been using this one for a few weeks, and my stains have definitely improved

MrsPinkCock · 10/08/2020 22:45

Crest 3D white (strips and toothpaste).

My teeth have never been so light.

Thing is though these home whitening products only work to an extent - if your teeth have lost enamel or you have stains or crowns then it’ll do bugger all!

Bunnybaubles · 10/08/2020 22:46

I paid £150 for my dentist to professionally whiten my teeth. Turned out they only arranged moulds to be sent off and made for me along with giving me a box with 16% whitening gel. The gel is horrific, barely made a difference and the length of time i had to wear the moulds with the gel on ment my teeth were super sensitive.

My DB laughed when I told him. He pointed out I could get the moulds made online myself for cheap, I think around £20? I would need to double check. And could also order online 40% whitening gel, which required much less gel and wearing the moulds for 20 minutes so never getting sensitive teeth. Results are brilliant!!

TeaAndHobnob · 10/08/2020 22:47

Pearl drops whitening toothpaste - the one with charcoal that comes out purple from the tube.

Been using it a couple of weeks and my teeth are definitely less stained (I drink lots of tea).

leftovercoffeecake · 10/08/2020 22:47

Crest white strips. I buy mine from U.K. teeth whitening. A lot of the products you find in the U.K. stores do little to nothing.

Sugartitties · 10/08/2020 22:50

my friend has the whitest teeth and she uses that smokers powder toothpaste called eucryl i think. i’ll double check the name as that doesn’t look right written down. costs 1.50 normally get it in poundland type shops. i use it too and it’s brilliant

userxx · 10/08/2020 22:51

@Bunnybaubles Which company did you use online?

Raggity19 · 10/08/2020 22:52

I had retainers made at the dentist for £200. Then buy polanight 16% which I use maybe once a fortnight. It’s fantastic! Best money I’ve ever spent x

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 10/08/2020 22:52

If you can get an appointment with a dental hygienist ask if they do Airflow. It's like sand blasting your teeth and brilliant for removing stains. Costs around £100 I think. A good idea to ask on Style and Beauty though

mistermagpie · 10/08/2020 22:53

For a really cheap thing to try get Eucryl tooth powder. It's about £2 and got some stubborn stains off my lower front teeth that nothing else had touched.

safariboot · 10/08/2020 22:56

Please don't try anything that's not advised by a dentist or sold in a real shop. "Lifehack" tips and dubious online products could easily injure your teeth or gums.

Bloops · 10/08/2020 22:58

Purchase a water flosser. After using once a day for a few weeks, my teeth were noticeably brighter.

GeordieLass01 · 10/08/2020 23:01

Strawberries are a natural teeth whitener.

Bunnybaubles · 10/08/2020 23:01

Sorry, the gel is 35%, not 40.

Mixitupalot · 10/08/2020 23:05

Have you got an electric toothbrush? They are the best starting point, then drink less coffee and use a bicarbonate soda toothpaste.

I drink lots of coffee & ppl always remark on my white teeth.

Bunnybaubles · 10/08/2020 23:06

@userxx I'll need to check and get back to you. My DB has bought from this particular site for years, never an issue with product or delivery. It's an American site but I can't remember the name.

MummyLaLa88 · 11/08/2020 22:59

Drink/eat less coffee, red wine and curries.
You should brush your teeth twice a day, do not brush hard - some peoples teeth are “discoloured” as they have thinned the white enamel and the yellow dentine is showing through.
Start with a hygiene clean and polish (you might be hard pressed to find due to covid restrictions)
Then you can either do in chair whitening such as Zoom, which gives instant but short term results or the better option is special trays being made and then you apply the gel at home over night. Yes, your gums can get sensitive as most patients apply too much gel in the trays.
Lastly, you may need composite veneers, which can cover the teeth if you have thinned the enamel as no amount of whitening will work.
Remember you can only legally whiten your teeth with a dental care professional.
Dental Nurse

I've bought the Eucryl power! Arrived next day on amazon prime. Will report back if it makes a difference.
