Anyone else worried about school staff?

Sibsmum · 10/08/2020 13:58

I am sorting uniforms and other school things for September start and I am just thinking that I have heard a lot about children's safety but very little if anything about the safety of school staff.
It looks like they have no ppe and in secondary will be teaching lots of kids from lots of bubbles. Then there are the catering staff, exposed to everyone, TA's and other admin and support staff, cleaners and site staff. How are they being kept safe? Or are they just expendable because were desperate to get our Dc back ?
I feel a bit guilty that I hadn't considered that at all.

Am I the only one that laughed at picture 29?
Those yellow things on their heads.
I am impressed though that they were able to keep everyone still enough to take the pic 🤣

That was my favourite, tooGrin

Oh is the ask them anything still going on?

A question. for them

When they start doing the school trips there again, will the pupils have to wear masks?

canigooutyet · 10/08/2020 21:43

Trips to parliament I mean

Piggywaspushed · 10/08/2020 21:50

I love Zoe Hyde. She is so clever and clear.

Swelteringmeltering · 10/08/2020 22:13

I've not read the whole thread but like before lock down, people forget, schools are full of adults!
Most educational settings are full of adults! Cleaners, admin, reception, gardeners, waste, etc.

I'm more worried about adult to adult infection!

tinseltitsandlittlegits · 10/08/2020 22:15

I think they are going to be more poorly with stress than covid ☹️.
I can't imagine trying to keep 30 kids germ free , making sure everything is clean and there not sneezing in each other's faces 😳.
I really do hope it's as successful as possible in September and the kid get to be educated in school full time but I'm not holding my breath 😩

Swelteringmeltering · 10/08/2020 22:18

Cani

Good Post but parents are under tremendous pressure to send sick dc into school.
We've always been told 48 hours d a d v... But nealry anything else, calpol.

It will work agaisnt them now because people will be scared of fines again and send borderline dc in.

Unless schools ask us to be cautious.

stayathomer · 10/08/2020 22:21

There was an article yesterday basically saying shop staff, bus drivers and hospital staff have been at the front line, now it's time for the staff to go. Underneath loads of mums said they'll march if schools don't go back and teachers are neglecting their duties. I didn't even know where to start.

stayathomer · 10/08/2020 22:22

Oh sorry, am in Ireland btw

Swelteringmeltering · 10/08/2020 22:28

Jeff

I would also happily wear a visor and I can't fathom why, they are not being utilised?

I've seen 6 year old on play dates.. They spit when they talk, lick their fingers then touch everything, sneeze and cough, always too fast for a tissue!

One infected person can infect multiple others on a train carriage.
The gov rolled out flu jabs to primary kids to stop them.. The '' super spreaders '' from the passing it on to more vulnerable people.

Why oh why can't all children from primary up to college simply wear visors and masks where they want?

I'd be very happy if it was compulsory. I'm nervous of my colleagues, for my elderly colleagues!

ekidmxcl · 10/08/2020 22:31

I’m worried about my ds’s teachers (secondary), many of whom are 50+

Sibsmum · 10/08/2020 23:37

Lots of DC teachers are 50+. Exceptionally experienced and skilful teachers and many of the other staff are probably over 50 too. Eeek.
Will relief teachers be even able to go from school to school ? I am thinking that they might not because they could spread between schools? Also my kids say most of the relief teachers are ancient - they might not want to risk themselves if they're basically retired and just topping up earnings. ( mind you the kids perception of ancient could be anything over 30):)

Yep-supply teachers are fine to go from school to school and class to class apparently!

What could possibly go wrong?!

Yep, it’s in the guidelines as fine. We have teachers that are timetabled to teach in several schools across the MAT. Bubbles don’t apply to teachers though because magic.

And Matt Hancock said masks not needed because teaching is like working in an office where are with the same people every day.

noblegiraffe · 11/08/2020 00:00

The rest of the population has to crack on and do their job

.....according to COVID secure guidelines that it has been decided that don’t apply to teachers.

If you’re happy to be treated as expendable and worthless by the government then you crack on.

ilovesooty · 11/08/2020 00:01

@noblegiraffe

Secondary school:

“Kids don’t transmit it to adults” - don’t be so stupid

“Kids in bubbles” - don’t be so stupid

“Teachers 2m from kids at the front of the class” - don’t be so stupid

“Extra hand washing” - don’t be so stupid

“Extra cleaning” - don’t be so stupid

“Teachers can wear masks” - even if they could (don’t be so stupid) we need the kids to wear them

Anything else?

Spot on.
RabbityMcRabbit · 11/08/2020 00:02

There arent many cases of it being transmitted to school staff because most children have been AT HOME!!

Sibsmum · 11/08/2020 00:03

I am wondering now if the travelling music teachers who give lessons will also still be going round schools as usual. I guess other visitors like counsellors and socialworkers, nurses et c might be too.
Maybe the magic air extends to them too?
This is starting to sound like madness to me. Not especially worried about Dc but crickey, all those adults mixing and potentially spreading. I will definitely be getting Dcs less uniform. X

Does anyone know if you can go to school if you are in or your school is in, an area with Restrictions?
I can't see anything specifically about that.
Kids and teachers living across 3County boundaries at DC school and I don't know how many 'area's'.

As I have posted before, never have I been more ashamed of the behaviour of some of my profession.

What profession would that be?

noblegiraffe · 11/08/2020 00:25

I am and I will.

You literally mean you are happy to be treated as expendable and worthless by the government?

Every day I’m reminded that there are 7 billion people on this planet and so the chances of finding someone willing to agree with something monumentally stupid are actually fairly high, but it’s still surprising when it happens.
