Posting for traffic.

Can I ask what are your best low calorie snacks? I've put on about 400 stone during lockdown. Anyone have any nice go-to snacks for when they've got the munchies that don't have a day's worth of calories in them? Preferably something tastier than a cardboardy oat cake or a celery stick.

Celery with a bit of cream cheese in the middle

Also cucumber and carrot sticks with a bit of humous Smile

Wherearemymarbles · 09/08/2020 21:26

Fruit.
Or dont snack.

Charles11 · 09/08/2020 21:27

When I have the munchies, carrots and veg just doesn’t cut it.
It’s easier to not snack and just go to bed.
Maybe some popcorn? Some packs are quite low in calories.

TooMinty · 09/08/2020 21:34

Lidl do nice crisp alternatives that are about 90 calories per bag - baked pea things or lentil curls.

Hairthrowaway · 09/08/2020 21:35

These M&S triangles are lovely & 68 kcals

I know you said no oat cakes but M&S rice cakes are really nice - they’re much better than any other brand so don’t let past bland experiences put you off! They have different flavours too, ~80 cals each.

Pop chips & M&S lentil curls crisps (80-90 cals)

Halo top ice cream, entire tubs can be around 300 Cals

Other than that I do snack on my favourite fruits, particularly watermelon

I like Light Babybel, only about 47 calories each

Daftodil · 09/08/2020 21:45

How have I never heard of Halo Top?! This could be a game changer!

Popcorn and lentil curls sound good too :)

Cherry tomatoes.
Small plateful of frozen veg eg: cauliflower, broccoli, beans.
Pickled onions.
Pickled beetroot.
Gherkins.

Fcukthisshit · 09/08/2020 22:04

Cherries are in season at the mo - the M and S ones are amazing - really sweet.

Eggs. Pop your own popcorn in a silicone microwave thingy (£4 on ebay) with no oil. Corn on the cob with lime juice and salt. Cooked chicken breast slices dipped in soy sauce.

My dentist just told me not to snack at all, and definitely not too much fruit. So that’s my idea of healthy snacking buggered.

I’ve been told that things with fat like cheese or yoghurt are good for keeping you going and not giving you the urge to snack again or to fill up on carbs.

fluffi · 09/08/2020 22:31

Apples
Tomatoes
Carrots
Fat-Free greek style yogurts
Muller light yogurts
Skylr high protein "yogurts"

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/08/2020 22:33

Babybel light-42 calories.

Space raider crisps-58 calories.

Propercorn popcorn- 44 calories

Tavannach · 09/08/2020 22:35

My dentist just told me not to snack at all

I agree with the dentist. Have a glass of iced water.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/08/2020 22:38

Egg white (hard boiled) chopped, chives, quark spread on ryvita thing. Salt and pepper on top

formerbabe · 09/08/2020 22:41

Hard boiled egg
Sun dried tomatoes
Salami slices...fatty but no carbs
Home made ice follies
Poppadoms...buy them uncooked, they're like flat discs, don't fry, pop in microwave and they puff up

Feedingthebirds1 · 09/08/2020 22:42

I find that two or three pickled silverskin onions or cornichons (the very small gherkins) does the trick. It's the vinegar that does it, it's a sharp explosion of taste and virtually no calories even if you have more than three.

Really good for when you just want something to eat, but you're not actually hungry.

Puffinhead · 09/08/2020 22:49

Oatcakes

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 09/08/2020 22:51

I take a few slices of wafer thin ham or chicken and put some hot sauce and a small bit of light mayo on then roll it up.

I'm aware this is a bit weird.

PumbaasCucumbas · 09/08/2020 22:54

My sister told me about the 16:8 fasting thing and it’s worked for me... I fast between 8pm and lunch at 12 next day which cuts out breakfast, morning snack and evening munchies. You adapt quite quickly - I don’t think I’m any hungrier in the morning than before really and just then have to be sensible during your eating hours... look it up :)

HopeClearwater · 09/08/2020 23:01

agree with the dentist. Have a glass of iced water

Can you come and live with me and remind me of that every time I wander off to the kitchen?

Couchbettato · 09/08/2020 23:02

I just can't have snacks in the house at all. They don't hit the sides, and I end up eating more than I should.

DH on the other hand doesn't care about my weak willedness, and buys all my favourite things.

The bastard.

delilahbucket · 09/08/2020 23:05

I have high protein meals so don't tend to snack much, but seafood sticks, ham, cherry tomatoes and cup a soups are things I reach for.

PreggoFeminist86 · 09/08/2020 23:05

Current favourite is apple slices with peanut butter. Also any kind of fruit... I always wake up in the night craving chocolate, so I keep a wee bowl of grapes by the bed to stop me from being a greedy fucker at 3am.

I know you said no Rice Cakes, but the M&S Dark Chocolate ones are lush & only come in at 120 calories for either 2 large ones or a bag of mini ones Star The cookie dough Halo Top ice cream is excellent too.

Twigletfairy · 09/08/2020 23:05

I make smoothies and then freeze them into ice lolly moulds . Vegetable based smoothies are generally healthier all round than fruit smoothies
