What do you think would happen if something wiped out most men

Theres a lot of films and stuff that have thought about women being wiped out or becoming infertile. But what about Men. Do you think we'd start war, or would we find peace?

I think we'd enslave what men were left tbh, farm them for their sperm, breed with the higher quality males. Probably keep some as purchased sex slaves.

Y the last man is a graphic novel that thinks through this scenario.

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/08/2020 16:49

Men would either become princesses, too valuable to do anything but breed, and so we’d have arranged marriage situations where the healthiest boys (and their sperm) would be given to the highest buyers. Or they would institutionalized and be farmed for their sperm used to populate the human race.

@SerenDippitty

Many thanks for the recommendation. It is available as a free download from freeeditorial.com.

derxa · 09/08/2020 16:58

There would be an upsurge in genetic abnormalities due to the restricted sperm supply. And what would happen to the newborn baby boys?

bluebluezoo · 09/08/2020 16:58

Creativity and nurturing, caring professions would be more highly valued.

Interesting. If there were no men, the above professions wouldn’t be seen as “womens jobs”. Women wouldn’t “naturally” gravitate to lesser paid, lesser valued roles as all jobs would now be done by women, so there wouldn’t be the “old boys clubs and social stereotyping which makes it difficult to succeed in many professions.

Money generates money so the prestigious high earners will still be business, banking, hedge funds etc. Caring roles which don’t generate income will still be at the bottom of the pile.

So will we go back to class systems, based on income rather than sex. High earners in big houses, carers and cleaners working for them...

Augustseemsbetter · 09/08/2020 16:58

Far fewer conversations about what route was taken to get wherever.

DianaT1969 · 09/08/2020 17:13

Many golf courses would go into liquidation.
Women who cover their heads, bodies and faces for their Islamic beliefs would probably switch to wearing anything they like, while still able to follow their religion. I'm not sure about that, but would be curious to know.
My windows would never get washed.
I'd stop shaving my legs.

I’d be devastated. I quite like the decent ones.

R1R2 · 09/08/2020 17:26
@love2cycle you realize many women already do those jobs right?
That they do but not in anywhere close enough numbers to keep modern infrastructure going especially once you add the supply chains required to keep those industries afloat. It would be a rude awakening for some

user1294625849274 · 09/08/2020 17:30

My trauma would be a hell of a lot easier to manage. A decent quality of life might even be achievable.

1Morewineplease · 09/08/2020 17:30

I would grow unusually large carrots.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/08/2020 17:31

would we find peace?
😂😂😂😂😂

Stripesgalore · 09/08/2020 17:32

We would be losing almost half the population so the stress on the infrastructure would be massively reduced, at least temporarily.

Balhammom · 09/08/2020 17:43

I think it would be truly dreadful.

The level of bitchiness in the one majority-female company I worked at was insufferable. Although I imagine having all men running something would make it pretty intolerable for analogous reasons. One of many reasons why I think gender balance improves most scenarios.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/08/2020 17:44

In the early days, on the surface, it would all be peace and love. Women would find more peaceful ways of resolving conflict. The men would be protected by their partners so they wouldn't be taken to the Sperm farms

However a group of women with power would be carefully planning what happens next
All available men would be rounded up, screened and allocated positions. Those with good sperm counts would be kept as brood mares. They would be expected to make regular contributions of sperm which would be frozen for future use. The richest and most powerful may also use them for sex.

A few night be highly revered for their specific skills bit within a few generations, as they got older and died and other women took their spot less so.

Baby boys born would be given to the most powerful families to raise, before being sent to the Sperm farms. This would be considered a noble action and live bit there would be little choice really. Of course birth mothers would try to hide them and these women would face death or imprisonment for going against the Chief Matriarch. Some women would go so far as to castrate their own sons in the hope of protecting them. This would be punishable by death for both.

Women wanting babies would have to be screened for congenital illnesses, mental health issues etc and there would be a cost. Babies would be limited to 2 girls. If you have a boy, because he'd be taken from you, you could have another sample of sperm free.

More women would form lesbian relationships.

Being trans Would be outlawed as it would be seen to mock the Matroarchy

Depends if we're talking a Y chromosome activated pathogen or just none being born
Love2cycle · 09/08/2020 17:49

@love2cycle you realize many women already do those jobs right?

Yes, I do one of those jobs along with a few other women in a male dominated environment. Although my role is typically a male job, there are very few women who would want to do it. Additionally we have other departments with no women in them, because none of us would want to do those particular jobs. On top of that, none of the females are on the on call emergency list due childcare and are part time.

The internalised misogyny, as demonstrated by some posters on this thread, will hopefully be completely eradicated and we’ll learn that we do better supporting each other instead of seeing each other as competition.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/08/2020 19:41

Some women can be actually evil. Look at the female ISIS members who's job it was to police the other women. They took great pleasure in the violence and torture.

But are there examples of this with women behaving in this way without the control and direction of men. ISIS wives, women in concentration camps, madame Mao, all the power was still in the hands of men. Same with female serial killers and female sex offenders. There's normally a man there. Which is not true of males needing a woman around to behave evilly. It's normally the other way round. Women have a mitigating effect. Generally.

And I'm a bit bemused at how 'bitchiness' appears to be the issue when epidemic rape, child abuse, genocide, war aren't. Small price to pay, non?

LadyCurd · 09/08/2020 20:30

Read Virgina Bergin who runs the world? It’s a young adult set a generation after the men have been killed by a virus. It’s excellent.

Thank you! I have a much better relationship with all women once I let go of my internalised misogyny. 💛

Crikey! That’s not presenting a great picture of what you think women would do OP. Imagine the other way around! So basically we’d be worse than men when left to it 😆

dudsville · 10/08/2020 17:27

My wonderful sweet partner? My father? My friends? No i wouldn't participate in such a horrendous thing.
