What do you think would happen if something wiped out most men

Theres a lot of films and stuff that have thought about women being wiped out or becoming infertile. But what about Men. Do you think we'd start war, or would we find peace?

I think we'd enslave what men were left tbh, farm them for their sperm, breed with the higher quality males. Probably keep some as purchased sex slaves.

The world would be a much safer place.
Violent crime and sex offences would virtually disappear.

ForestDad · 09/08/2020 15:31

Imagine how much sex the blokes left would get! Bye-bye monogamy! Significantly easier than "farming for sperm" - although the end effect is ostensibly the same where's the fun in that?

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 09/08/2020 15:35

Be interesting to imagine a matriarchy, what we have today but reversed. What it would be like, what would be more valued.

All power and wealth was concentrated amoung women. Men had rights, they won the right to vote a couple of generations ago in some countries, but not all. Their skills werent very highly valued or paid but they are allowed to work now in most countries. Although in some countries they arent allowed out without their wives, or have to have their faces covered. They dont have full bodily autonomy and health research doesnt focus on their issues.

I wonder what the state of the environment would be like, wealth inequality, healthcare etc. I doubt Covid would be what it is, women are more risk averse so pandemic planning would be advanced, just look at the countries with women leaders.

Creativity and nurturing, caring professions would be more highly valued. I think overall children would be better off. I dont think sexual exploitation would be anything like it is in the patriarchy. Actually I think the world would be so different its hard to imagine. Although I do think it would be better, well for women anyway Grin.

ForestDad · 09/08/2020 15:35

Cars would look a lot more bashed in and break down more often due to lack of maintenance.

Footballers would be paid a lot less.
Less jobs that require lots of travel or long working hours unless significantly more decent childcare provision, or perhaps more communal/inter-generational living.

When the cats away the mice will.. behave like cats!? I mean isn’t this what we would imagine men might do. I would hope we could do better!

NYMM · 09/08/2020 15:41

I'd hide my man ....Gin

Nottherealslimshady · 09/08/2020 15:41

It's a hypothetical question, I'm not asking your opinion before I murder them all Confused

I do think there would be some women who would try to seek massive power during a time of change. But they wouldn't have a physical advantage over the rest of us so I do think we would have more of a power balance among us.

Give it 50 years and human nature would would our and we’d be back where we are today.

Ok rape wouldn’t exist, sexual assaults on children would be a fraction of current levels but they’d still be armies, religious ideology etc etc.

Look up Wu Zetian (though historians of the day might have demonised her a bit!)

QE I was pretty ruthless too

But i guess lots of people would be lonely and sales of tools to open jars would go through the roof!

RiftGibbon · 09/08/2020 15:44

Is it a random selection to be wiped out, or can I provide a list of candidates?

Wherearemymarbles · 09/08/2020 15:49

I do imagine animal farm - all animals are equal but some are more equal than others.

Dazzedandconfused · 09/08/2020 15:49

I remember having this conversation a few years ago when a study of sharks showed that females can fertilise their own eggs so the smaller male sharks became prey.
I don't think a mostly female world would be quite as cut throat as that but potentially if men were obsolete for reproductive purposes then they could probably be used exclusively for sex and hard manual labour.
However, I agree though it could actually worsen the patriarchy with the few remaining men banding together to try and keep control. It could fuel more toxic masculinity amongst them and make new generations of women majority more subservient?

katy1213 · 09/08/2020 15:51

Looking at all the bickerings and fallings-out on Mumsnet - and the grown women writing screeds about somebody who doesn't 'like' whatever twaddle they put on social media - I wouldn't count on world peace.

JuniperFather · 09/08/2020 15:53

@BertieDrapper

Just as a counter to the posts about bitchy women - maybe without men around we won't be played against each other, maybe the women who are like this will feel less need to be seen as aggressive, since they aren't having to compete against men who if they acted the same would be seen as a leader. 🙄
Maybe all of the above is just a useless excuse and useful shield for women who just want to be nasty micromanaging bosses anyway...
cologne4711 · 09/08/2020 15:54

I would absolutely hate a world without men. I've had far more bitchiness and bullying from women in my life than from males and the thought of being surrounded only by females is horrible

I agree. Male violence is obviously a massive problem in the world but OMG women are so complicated!

PuzzledObserver · 09/08/2020 15:56

Slightly different scenario, but PD James' novel Children of Men is about a world in which almost all men have become infertile.

It's set in 2021 - doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo.

That last bit was the theme to The Twilight Zone, in case you didn't get it.

Stripesgalore · 09/08/2020 15:56

Look at Mumsnet compared to all the other social media platforms. Facebook - constant fake news from all political persuasions, Twitter - constant rage, YouTube - conspiracy theory central. MN is harsh, but it’s less insane than much of the internet.

rosiethehen · 09/08/2020 15:56

I've had more violence and harm against me done by females than males. Some women can be actually evil. Look at the female ISIS members who's job it was to police the other women. They took great pleasure in the violence and torture.

Men can be nasty, violent and annoying, but so can women, I find they're more adept at hiding it though.

Musereader · 09/08/2020 16:00

Lee killough wrote a voice out of ramah in 1979. It was a space colony where only 10% of men survive puberty due to an illness. The world is structured so that all boy children go to the church at 8 and the men that survive have a holy duty to provide seed for the female population. Nominally the church rules the world. But in actual fact the women pretty much get on with actually running the place.

You can compare and contrast with charlotte perkins Gilman's Herland where the men are just unknown and it is a perfect utopia and Edmund coopers who needs men? Where the men are prostitutes for powerful women, and women leaders go a bit power mad and are just as bad as men. It has been done many times in pulp SF

wifesupremacist · 09/08/2020 16:02

@Laserbird16

Could we start a collection and purchase Idris Elba?
haha yeah no weird undertones here you fucking freak
LookAtTheCahhOlivahhhhh · 09/08/2020 16:10

Death by snu snu.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 09/08/2020 16:12

I don't know ..... but I really wish that it would Sad

Cloudfrost · 09/08/2020 16:12

Vibrators would become very expensive for sure 😂

ambereeree · 09/08/2020 16:16

@love2cycle you realize many women already do those jobs right?

jay55 · 09/08/2020 16:16

There wouldn't be many stay at home mums. And older women would finally be more valued in the workplace.

Though I think I'd steal some billionaire's yacht.
