To think Amazon should deliver on the nominated day, not two days early?

Yellownotblue · 08/08/2020 19:57

I placed an order on Amazon and requested delivery on Monday, knowing that there would be no one at home this weekend. Despite my order confirming this, Amazon sent three different parcels for delivery today.

I’ve just been notified that two of the parcels have been left “to the receptionist”. I live in a terraced home, I didn’t even know I had a receptionist. I look forward to meeting her/him. No doubt these parcels will have disappeared and I will need to reorder.

The third parcel is a failed delivery, which I will now need to rearrange, and it’s unlikely we’ll have it on Monday.

What’s the point of requesting a specific delivery day then?

AIBU not to be impressed?

Normally you get the day they decide to deliver, which often is early.

But if you requested and paid for a certain day, that's not on.

Is it Amazon or Amazon marketplace? It may be that the individual retailers do what they want.

mnahmnah · 08/08/2020 20:12

Is it Hermes? I’ve had the same problem with deliveries through them for Next. I specify a day I know I will be in, but then they try and deliver on a different day when we’re not there. Very annoying!

EggysMom · 08/08/2020 20:18

Amazon do this to us pretty often - request a certain day, they deliver the day before. It's annoying, I'd agree.

GJ14 · 08/08/2020 20:22

If it’s delivered by actual amazon it’s usually accurate. Even if it’s ahead of said delivery day they will notify you if it’s been dispatched or out for delivery on the app so you can change delivery if day if needed, safe place etc.

For me the issue is when parcels are sent by Royal Mail with no tracking from seller.

I also got left with receptionist the other day. I knew the parcel was coming but I had to pop out. It was with my neighbour.

GJ14 · 08/08/2020 20:23

9 times out of 10 amazon seem to deliver on the correct day for me though!

GJ14 · 08/08/2020 20:23

Oh sorry. I’ve just re read that you requested delivery Monday. Yes that is a pain! Apologies for not reading your post correctly! 🌸

BlackberrySky · 08/08/2020 20:26

If you paid for a specific day then that is not on. The happened to some friends of ours, Amazon delivered two days early, left parcels in the porch, they were away. They were burgled because the burglars noticed the parcels had been left out overnight.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 08/08/2020 20:40

I'm assuming the OP has Amazon Prime - you can have fastest delivery, which is often next day, or nominate a preferred day for delivery.

Did the burglers leave a note? How did they know that was the reason?

Great, I’m going to sleep well tonight!

Can’t you ask a neighbor to grab them for you?

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 08/08/2020 23:09

We get this all the time - it's so frustrating. We specify a delivery day then they just deliver whenever they feel like it.

Neighbours weren't impressed when they were asked to take in our subscription delivery of a load of bulk orders because we were away for the weekend and they'd delivered four days early.

StartingGrid · 08/08/2020 23:36

I have prime and the last four orders I've placed have come a day early, to the point I will make use of the local amazon locker where possible as at least I know I can get to it at my convenience!

Can you read?
lughnasadh · 09/08/2020 02:16

You are exceptionally rude @mnahmnah.

As far as I can see, and I read perfectly well, the OP hasn't specified which courier was used.

lughnasadh · 09/08/2020 02:17

Although apparently I can't tag, Blush obviously I meant @roxfox is rude Grin Grin

BlackberrySky · 09/08/2020 06:16

@lifesalongsong
They were responsible for a spate of burglaries all of similar MO. They made the mistake of doing it at one house that had CCTV and they were known to the police. The parcel casing came up in the trial. HTH.

Wow, another post from someone who expects their life to be commensurate with living in an apartment with a concierge, when the reality is a terrace or whatever.

@Yellownotblue I don't mean to be rude in any way, however Amazon's "delivered by" day is just that - it's an indicator not a retail promise.

If you want a "nominated day" service then you can use any number of online retailers who provide just that.

Or, if you are concerned about the security of your goods being left on your doorstep visible to all, then why not use the Amazon locker service?! I mean yeah it would involve you having to get up and go and collect the goods - however as I said before, Amazon doesn't provide a "we deliver on this day" retail promise. So YABU to castigate them for it when there are alternatives.

P.S I don't work for Amazon, I barely use them and don't really like them, and have no dog in this fight.

Like Amazon, you mean?

What? I saw someone who expected amazon to give accurate delivery dates. I’ve found couriers have become less reliable in lockdown. I’ve guessed that’s a combination of increased demand/pressure, not wanting or having time to check and follow instructions, not wanting to touch door bells etc and an assumption that people will be at home. We’ve had lots of parcels just left outside the flat. I was disappointed to find our “receptionist” is just the external staircase.

SlipperyLizard · 09/08/2020 07:27

This happened to us just before last Christmas - we were away so I asked for delivery after we were back. Got a picture of £300 of presents left on our doorstep, two days before they were due! Thankfully they were still there when we got home.

Yellownotblue · 09/08/2020 07:33

@JuniperFather, Actually I’m quite sure you meant to be rude in every way. Why else would you come and castigate me as someone who expects their life to be commensurate with living in an apartment with a concierge, when the reality is a terrace or whatever?

Can you read? As my OP was clear that I did not use the “delivered by” date.

Amazon offers a nominated day service. I pay for it. They then deliver on other dates. From other helpful posters on this thread, it’s clear I’m not the only one with this issue.

As for your statement that Amazon does not offer a “we deliver on this date” retail promise, you are wrong.

If you're using Prime, then don't most orders have the option of an 'Amazon Day' delivery for free? Where you can order once, or throughout the week, if you wish, and it'll all arrive on your 'Amazon Day'? (Sorry if not Prime - I've had the same issue even with Prime, so think I'll start using the abovementioned service!)

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 09/08/2020 07:40

I pay for Amazon Prime, like most people, to get next day delivery. But even before COVID-19 products that were next day delivery were not arriving for a few days with a message saying the item was delayed.

Two items simply failed to ever appear , one a large item that would be impossible to just lose. It seems a lot of the products just state next day delivery to get you to buy them despite knowing they can't deliver them the next day. Infuriating.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 09/08/2020 07:55

You think people like Juniper would research their points before making such absolute statements, getting it wrong and making themselves look like an absolutely nipple.
