To think Amazon should deliver on the nominated day, not two days early?

I placed an order on Amazon and requested delivery on Monday, knowing that there would be no one at home this weekend. Despite my order confirming this, Amazon sent three different parcels for delivery today.

I’ve just been notified that two of the parcels have been left “to the receptionist”. I live in a terraced home, I didn’t even know I had a receptionist. I look forward to meeting her/him. No doubt these parcels will have disappeared and I will need to reorder.

The third parcel is a failed delivery, which I will now need to rearrange, and it’s unlikely we’ll have it on Monday.

What’s the point of requesting a specific delivery day then?

AIBU not to be impressed?

@Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel

I pay for Amazon Prime, like most people, to get next day delivery. But even before COVID-19 products that were next day delivery were not arriving for a few days with a message saying the item was delayed.

Two items simply failed to ever appear , one a large item that would be impossible to just lose. It seems a lot of the products just state next day delivery to get you to buy them despite knowing they can't deliver them the next day. Infuriating.

That’s an interesting theory. I wonder if the ASA or CMA would be interested in investigating this. From this thread, it does seem that Amazon may be engaging in a degree of misrepresentation on their delivery dates. This may in turn decrease competition in the retail space.

@JuniperFather you need to check your facts before posting, Amazon do offer a nominated day delivery.
I have used this service many times with no problems.
@Yellownotblue Yanbu I hope your parcels are still there when you get home and please update as to who your “receptionist” is.

@roxfox

Some of my amazon deliveries come through Hermes! Some through Royal Mail. Amazon are not their own courier. I have never specified which day with amazon, but I have with Next, so that’s why I was asking if it was Hermes. Blimey.

@lughnasadh

Thanks Grin I was confused for a moment!

yunalis · 09/08/2020 11:06

I’ve had this a few times before so I stopped using the nominated day and ordered it the day before. They should rename it as they seem to take it more as a suggestion.

yunalis · 09/08/2020 11:09

They have great customer service though, I’d email them about delivery date problems rather than report them.

@PinkShimmerSparkle, it turns out the “receptionist “ is the door mat outside our front door. 2 large Amazon parcels spent the night there and were waiting for me this morning.

It may be just a terraced house, but at least our neighbours are not thieves. 🙂

Amazon deliveries are shit unless they're track n trace Royal Mail

Hermes and DPD are not delivery companies, they are black holes that eat parcels.

Glad your "receptionist" was able to sign for your parcels, OP Grin

Several years ago our 'receptionist' was the neighbours toddler, who had an unusual name (that came up on the tracking). The neighbour was surprised by this as we were, but did have our parcel.

Recently our receptionist was the military base Guardroom- whose job has nothing to do with post, so we aren't sure how it ended up there. They aren't usually allowed to accept parcels. (However official courier companies are allowed entry to the residential area.)

CSIblonde · 09/08/2020 11:26

I think its annoying if you specify a date, so I never do anymore tbh. I just place my order mid week as I know they usually then estimate Mon/Tues & it will always turn up Sat or v occasionally Sun which is fine. Me & my neighbours doors are opposite sides of the only path so it's no biggie keeping a parcel for each other .

mcmooberry · 09/08/2020 11:27

Yes that's annoying. We recently had a digital piano delivered 2 days early and therefore on a day I was at work, my husband had broken his shoulder and the poor delivery man had to lug it into the house - all 57Kgs of it - himself. It was lucky my husband was in!

GabsAlot · 09/08/2020 11:32

yes highly annoying id ask for a partial refund-whats the point if they do as they please

SpillTheTeaa · 09/08/2020 11:44

@roxfox you do realise other courier companies deliver for Amazon right? 😂😂

Pooroldfox · 09/08/2020 11:47

I ordered a hula hoop for DD which was delivered by Hermes. They told me the delivery date so OH waited home all day, it didn't arrive. When I contacted them the guy said it would be delivered a few days later when no one was home. When I asked what would happen if I wasn't home, he said they would send it back to the retailer. I asked to speak to a manager who assured me it would be delivered the next day but this didn't happen. I contacted their head office a few days later, as I was working and they admitted it had been sent to Dundee, then Rugby, then finally to local sorting office and no date could be given for delivery. 2 weeks later it was finally left in our "porch", ( I live 1 floor up in a flat), which was actually just the hoop jammed in the doorframe. At least it didn't go back to to retailer I suppose.

Amazon do have their own couriers in some areas! We usually get Amazon items delivered by their own couriers (In Amazon Prime vans), and much less frequently by Royal Mail or Hermes.

Anyway, if I ever choose a nominated day then my items always turn up early too! I have no issues with the next day delivery; we never receive anything late, but with the nominated delivery they can’t seem to resist sending items out early!
