I've had quotes from £1,800 for a composite door (Solidor) to £7,000 for a designer timber door (London Door Co). It is literally a door. No side windows or anything. It's a mid-terrace house, 1920s, nothing special.

I despair. The cheaper door isn't even especially nice. I've looked on eBay out of desperation but there's only one door that's the right size and that's far too modern for our tastes.

Keeping our current door is not an option as it's falling apart.

Rockdoor Illinois in Blue, cost just under £1k.

Try www.verysecuredoors.co.uk/

Might cost a bit more due to travel - email him and ask?

I changed the lock to an ABS lock so I could have keyed alike for the front, kitchen and french doors - for 4 locks, cost about £80 online and easy to fit myself.

@bungaloid we're doing our doors in accoya, no movement! It's more expensive but worth it.

bungaloid · 09/08/2020 11:33

@RedPanda2, I think the company we went with only used accoya. I'd never heard of the stuff, but the science behind the treatment process is quite cool. A few years in and still looks great, super solid. We had our garage doors done too. Probably our favourite big house spend we've done so far.

Bought ours from eBay - was about £500 - original Victorian door. They were upgrading it and we wanted an original. Had to hire a van to collect. Fits perfectly and in keeping with the house renovation.

I have a composite, it was around £1200 but I got 2 doors and windows at the same time so can't remember exactly.

The woman across the road bought a door in B&Q and had a joiner fit it for £500 all in.

MsEllany · 09/08/2020 11:58

Ours was about £250 for the door and then maybe £100 for a joiner to hang it? We got a wooden door from B&Q. I originally varnished it but I’ve recently painted it black which cost £25 for the paint.
@JacobReesMogadishu - wow! We didn’t have that option. What happens if your phone o is flat? Is there also a key?
Yes there is also a keyhole.

I never take a key anymore and this does worry me slightly.

I’m about to pay for a bluetooth Wireless keypad And you can add a code number entry system.

Composite doors are high security and cost more than your average uPVC. Timber stuff's all mental price.

So yeah, Solidor prices are about that. I've had two.
