To ask what on earth 13 year old boys wear these days?

We live overseas in a place that never rains, as at result my just turned 13-year-old lives in shorts and T-shirts. It is chilly for a couple of months in the winter and he wears unbranded tracksuits when not in school.

We're moving back to the UK and I literally have no idea what 13-year-old boys wear in the UK. I've promised him a new wardrobe when we get there and don't want to unknowingly buy him clothes that would be bully fodder. Any info on what your boys around this age are wearing would be much appreciated? What shops? Brand etc. TIA

DS1 wears Under Armour, Adidas..

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 08/08/2020 15:07

Nike, Adidas, North Face should do the trick. J D Sports is your friend!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/08/2020 15:08

DFND is a popular brand for joggers/tshirts. Have a look on M&M direct as they have this brand for cheaper prices

adidas and nike clothes are also popular, particularly the hoodies and tshirts, but the joggers are also popular from there too.

shoes wise, they seem to wear trainers 24/7. Nike Air Max shoes are popular

Jeffjefftyjeff · 08/08/2020 15:12

We moved back from overseas and DS was similar. It hasnt affected what he wears much. Now 13. Has a Hoodie in winter (dislikes coats, manage to get him to wear an ellesse one when really cold. Previously had a kings will dream one). Lives in Adidas, Nike etc. For cheaper Plain bits we go to H&m or Zara.

edwinbear · 08/08/2020 15:15

Agree re JD Sports. DS would like to wear Nike exclusively, however as I’m not made of money, he has a few Nike bits (tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts and hoodies) and I get unbranded stuff from Primark which he doesn’t seem to mind too much.

QueenofLouisiana · 08/08/2020 15:16

Mine is 15, adults M size (for context). Wears jeans from ASOS tall, but would have been in H&M. Wears Nike tracksuit bottoms- few brands are long enough, ASICS or Nike trainers.
Tshirts from Nike, Adidas, Hollister, Lyle & Scott or Nicce, Under Armour if doing sporty stuff. Hoodies are similar. Coat (rarely if ever worn: North Face or Nicce- think it was worn in the stands for football matches).

formerbabe · 08/08/2020 15:18

I have a ds who is 12. He wears Nike tracksuit bottoms and t shirts and plain t shirts/shorts from h&m or primark. If he wears jeans, they are always skinny. Only colours he wears are black, white and dark green or grey.

mamamia2020 · 08/08/2020 15:22

Are there any brands that are a total no-no? When I was a kid it was Dunlop trainers. Are clothes from Next ok?

ThisLittleLady · 08/08/2020 15:39

Next is perfectly acceptable. Mostly joggers and hoodies. Even in exceptional heat.... that all the kids I see are wearing. Or those skin tight jeans/ trousers but I think that’s a bit older tbh...

GameSetMatch · 08/08/2020 15:40

You are best off buying few branded T-shirt’s for when he is out with friends, a few unbranded tops for at home, a couple of hoodies for cooler days, two pairs of skinny jeans and a few pairs of tracksuit bottoms, then you can top up when you know what he wants there’s no point buying loads that he won’t wear.

Lara53 · 08/08/2020 15:56

Football/ sports clothing. Adidas, Nike Under Armour.

Lara53 · 08/08/2020 15:57

My DS1 is now 17 and has never cared about clothes. DS2 is very picky and chooses his own

treeeeemendous · 08/08/2020 16:08

Sports clothing as listed above. Nike, under amour, Adidas etc. Tracksuit bottoms or shorts at all times. Personally I would avoid Next it's not popular with ds and his friends. Basically stick to JD sports/sports direct.

dementedpixie · 08/08/2020 16:11

My ds doesn't care about clothes. He wears shorts and tshirts - he only likes plain clothing with no pictures or large logos

dementedpixie · 08/08/2020 16:12

p.s. his most recent tshirts were from next but in plain colours

Peachypips78 · 08/08/2020 16:32

I don't think there is much stigma attached to cheaper clothes as there was when we were young. Boys don't seem very clothing or brand conscious around here. DS1 doesn't seem to care- if they wear things with confidence no one seems to comment.

Morfin · 08/08/2020 16:37

Agree, boys especially seem much less bothered then when I was a kid. Lots wear clothes from Primark/H&M. Trainers matter more.

Aramox · 08/08/2020 16:39

Nike is a safe bet, lots of them only wear joggers. H & M fine for basics. Next a bit young by 13.

Popfan · 08/08/2020 16:40

Some branded stuff from JD sports but also plain t shirts / shorts / joggers from H and M

formerbabe · 08/08/2020 17:22

I agree that cheaper unbranded clothes don't have the same stigma as when I was a kid. My ds isn't embarrassed to wear primark and I know his friends do too, interspersed with sports brands.

capricorn12 · 08/08/2020 17:31

Not sure if everywhere is the same but round here, colour seems to have been banned. My 17 and 12 year old DS's have wardrobes any Goth would be proud of. There is a tiny bit of grey but 90% of it is black. My eldest graduated from dressing like a burglar (all black) to wearing a light grey tracksuit that made him look like he was in prison..... I have suggested that he may like to progress to an orange boiler suit but he didn't seem keen.

Twiningalldaylong · 08/08/2020 17:40

T-shirts and joggers or shorts. Round neck sweatshirts more popular than hoodies. Adidas, Nike, Vans, Champion, and Tommy Hilfiger all popular here. My 13 year old is a total labels.man. his 15 year old brother couldn't care less. Coat wise they seem to like puffa jackets. They like Berghaus and North Face but we are up north so might be more a necessity thing

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 08/08/2020 17:43

Neither of my boys (15 and 13) have anything branded. Mostly primark and supermarket stuff here.
Shorts and t shirts. Unbranded joggers or jeans when it's cold. Hoodies in the winter. Some 'character' stuff (dr who, stranger things, back to the future, Minecraft)
Actually I think DS1s coat is a 'brand' but I have no idea which one Grin

FrothyDragon · 08/08/2020 17:49

DS (12) loves stuff from Vans/Converse/Hype.

Most of his stuff is Peacocks though, or Primark. Neither of which are particularly frowned upon. Definitely not the same stigma for unbranded stuff anymore, so I know DS isn't at all put out if it comes from Primark instead.

40somethingJBJ · 08/08/2020 17:49

Ds is 14 and isn’t into labels at all. I mainly get his jeans from next, as they fit him best, and he wears them with band t-shirts and Skechers trainers, plus a god awful checked shirt/jacket thing with a hood which I can’t seem to get him out of!
