To have 0 sympathy for people who get too close to wild animals and end up injured?

Article on the BBC this morning, two women have been injured by hump backed whales in Australia this week. Both diving with the whales, one got trapped between two whales and the other one came between a mother and baby.

Yes, it was an organised trip etc etc etc but when will people realise that when you mess with wild animals you run the risk of being hurt?

It’s the same with people who go into game parks and get out of their cars and get eaten by lions etc.

So sometimes these animals tolerate us nearby, doesn’t mean they don’t get pissed off with us though does it?

WTF can’t we just leave animals in the wild and look at them from a decent distance rather than thinking it’s our right to engage with them up close and personal?

Dbil who has corn snakes at home, so has experience handling 🙄, picked up an adder 🐍 to show his daughter 🤦🏻‍♀️. Zero sympathy when he ended up in hospital with a hand blown up like a balloon!! 🎈

Nottherealslimshady · 08/08/2020 11:57

And then we say the animals are dangerous/aggressive and need culling. I hate those "when animals attack" programs, I just sit there shouting "leave the animal alone!" At the TV. Same for all animals, let your kid harass a dog and the dog bites your kid, we expect animals to tolerate our appalling treatment of them without so much as a murmur of discomfort from them.

Lockheart · 08/08/2020 11:59

Are these divers asking for your sympathy? Confused

I haven't seen anyone suggesting these whales should be culled either.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 08/08/2020 12:07

Or the parents who let their kids get, sometimes even help them and hold them, over the railings... If you dangle your kid over bear enclosure, you should be castrated🤷🏻

letsmakethishappen · 08/08/2020 12:09

I think going near a lion knowing that you’re food to them is just silly Grin. No sympathy from me either

GlummyMcGlummerson · 08/08/2020 12:21

YANBU. I watched that Tiger King kind of hoping one of them would get bitten. But no they just got shot at Sad

SnuggyBuggy · 08/08/2020 12:23

Animals should be treated with respect ot as entertainment

1984isnow · 08/08/2020 12:24

I agree. These stories always remind of Chris Rock's stand up show, where he talks about a circus tiger attacking someone:

That tiger didn't go crazy, that tiger went tiger. You know when the tiger went crazy? When he was riding around on a little bike with a Hitler helmet on!

Powerbunting · 08/08/2020 12:24

Glummy did you miss the bit where the staff member lost an arm?

ImFree2doasiwant · 08/08/2020 12:25

Someone did lose an arm in tiger king.

Ohtherewearethen · 08/08/2020 12:27

I always felt disgusted by the crocodile hunter. I always thought his death would be caught on film. It drives me mad when an animal gets shot because of human stupidity. I think humans need culling sometimes, particularly the stupid ones.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 08/08/2020 12:27

@Powerbunting

Glummy did you miss the bit where the staff member lost an arm?
I saw it and TBH I thought she was pretty gracious about it accepting it was her fault and not wanting the together put down - but I had no sympathy.

The men shooting at the tigers gave me the rage Angry

bedjolly · 08/08/2020 12:27

I saw an article once where a woman went into a Jaguars cage I think or some sort of big cat, it ate her. All for a picture next to it, what did you expect lady?? Luckily the zoo didn't put any blame towards the big cat.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 08/08/2020 12:27

*tiger not together

Andthewinnerislucky · 08/08/2020 12:28

You're not alone. The worst is when these animals have to be put down because of arrogant and foolish human "mistakes".

LockdownLump · 08/08/2020 12:29

Or them people who wind their windows down in a safari park and cannot believe it when their pecked by an ostrich. Dickheads.

MouthBreathingRage · 08/08/2020 12:30

I agree. No sympathy for anyone who cannot leave wild animals the hell alone. 'Oh I swam with dolphins and one tried to hump me', 'I was thrown off the back of an elephant/hit by its trunk', how about just left the poor creatures alone in the bloody first place?

Ishihtzuknot · 08/08/2020 12:33

I agree it’s the risk you take around a wild animal and I don’t have sympathy for them. The animals are doing what’s natural to them so it doesn’t surprise me when caged animals eventually attack.

Rottweilers on the other hand, they’re far worse...they plot and stalk more than a lion you know Grin

Andthewinnerislucky · 08/08/2020 12:35

I used to watch a lot of these animal attack clips on YouTube and the sheer stupidity and carelessness displayed by humans was astounding. It gave me the rage so much I had to stop putting myself through that.

A lot of people in the comments say it's natural selection.

ButtWormHole · 08/08/2020 12:37

So are you vegan OP?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 08/08/2020 12:38

"'Oh I swam with dolphins and one tried to hump me'"

I am always surprised people don't know dolphins are rampant interkind rapists....

RunningFromInsanity · 08/08/2020 12:38

Every time I read about a matador getting gored by a bull I cheer a little.

Also, ‘shark infested waters’? Nope. Water is a sharks natural habitat.

RunningFromInsanity · 08/08/2020 12:39

@ButtWormHole

So are you vegan OP?
Oh here we go Hmm
1984isnow · 08/08/2020 12:40

There's always one

MrsSpookyM · 08/08/2020 12:40

Ha, I live near Cambridge and I saw a non-English tourist trying to get their toddler to pose next to a swan and put his hand on it for a photo recently. Grin
