To ask what Covid related words and phrases are you sick of hearing? (lighthearted)

This is not to undermine the seriousness of the pandemic at all, this is just an observation on language use and the general mood of the public. Covid has provoked lots of new expressions that are being used over and over again and for me some of them are beginning to epitomise my feelings of weariness and are beginning to rankle. Phrases like two metres, unprecedented, bubble, social distancing- I feel like I can’t bear to hear them anymore!

Oh and second bloody wave! Was there ever a more depressing phrase?!

Social distancing, it's all I ever hear about yet no one seems to be following it anymore

CamDram · 05/08/2020 22:01

Following the science (not that any of them understand science)

Lazysundayafternoons · 05/08/2020 22:01

Not a new phrase but 'wfh' - something I used to do once a week, associated with not having to get up as early in the morning, saving 2 hours from the travel time each day, working in blissful silence for the day and feeling fresh, energised and happy.
Now associated with being stuck in the house all day every day, wishing the kids could keep quiet for 2 minutes so I can concentrate to write an email, wifi issues, bribing the kids to keep quiet while I'm on a call, increased stress levels and excessive overtime

Ohjustme · 05/08/2020 22:03

New normal. I dont want it to be there to be a new normal!!

Wheresthebiffer2 · 05/08/2020 22:03

The New Normal.

gettingfedupagain · 05/08/2020 22:04

"We're all in this together"

Bonesy1 · 05/08/2020 22:04

Unprecedented

AriettyHomily · 05/08/2020 22:04

Social distancing.

HGC2 · 05/08/2020 22:06

Politicians saying “let’s be clear” and then being anything but

mum2jakie · 05/08/2020 22:06

"New normal" - it's not fucking normal to walk around in a mask!!

wanderings · 05/08/2020 22:07

Boris's Friday colloquialism: "squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze the brakes". I haven't been able to get it out of my head since last week. Also "pause button" said in a serious Radio 4 voice.

And "it's not hard".

PrincessandthePeach · 05/08/2020 22:08

'The New Normal' really pisses me off 😡
'All in this together' not when people are deciding to flout the rules with no care for anyone else.

salad49 · 05/08/2020 22:08

Key worker really makes me cringe for some reason, can definitely be left in 2020 as far as I'm concerned!

Nothanksnota · 05/08/2020 22:10

Unprecedented times annoys me.
Also agree with others who said new normal.

Tellmetruth4 · 05/08/2020 22:10

New normal.

Unrelated but I’m also sick of those stupid articles predicting how we’re all going to live in future due to Covid like they have a crystal ball. Apparently we’re all going to live in remote villages and WFH forever. FFS.

Sunshine124 · 05/08/2020 22:10

‘Stay alert’- it was a poor choice for a slogan after stay at home. Also considering the alert system it was referring to has seemed to have gone out the window. Did quite enjoy all the memes of how ridiculous it was when it came out though.

MadameBee · 05/08/2020 22:13

“Can you hear me?” “Maureen you are on mute” “no no Maureen we can’t hear you, yes the bar in the middle, yes, press the microphone button so there is no line through it” “yes we can hear you”

Bollss · 05/08/2020 22:14

Second wave. Second bloody wave. If I ever hear about a second wave again it'll be too soon.

Connor05 · 05/08/2020 22:15

Uptick

mummysherlock · 05/08/2020 22:16

Furlough

userxx · 05/08/2020 22:17

"Stay home"

Makes my teeth itch, thank fuck they now want the opposite. Why wasn't it "stay AT home" ?

redsky21 · 05/08/2020 22:18

Unprecedented and 'now, more than ever'. Its on every bloody advert!

eggandonion · 05/08/2020 22:20

Sanitise your hands. Respiratory etiquette. I'm on a call, don't sing to the dog until I say so.

justoverthehorizon · 05/08/2020 22:20

@HGC2

Politicians saying “let’s be clear” and then being anything but
Lol yes! but they overused that before covid!
