To ask what Covid related words and phrases are you sick of hearing? (lighthearted)

This is not to undermine the seriousness of the pandemic at all, this is just an observation on language use and the general mood of the public. Covid has provoked lots of new expressions that are being used over and over again and for me some of them are beginning to epitomise my feelings of weariness and are beginning to rankle. Phrases like two metres, unprecedented, bubble, social distancing- I feel like I can’t bear to hear them anymore!

Social distancing.

That can be left in 2020 as far as I'm concerned, so done with it.

MadisonAvenue · 05/08/2020 22:41

Oh, and my local BBC radio station always add “...due to the coronavirus pandemic” onto the end of any news item regarding a cancellation, closure or job losses etc.
It annoys me because it’s pretty obvious currently why things such as those are happening.

User27aw · 05/08/2020 22:42

'Now more than ever' is on loads of adverts

OnceBitten25 · 05/08/2020 22:42

Unprecedented sets my teeth on edge. And folk that post on SM things like "went for a drink/meal - socially distanced of course!" It the "of course" that rips my knitting. No need!

Lockdownlooks · 05/08/2020 22:43

New normal
Social distancing- really physical distancing
Shielding
Guidance - it was all rules until suddenly it was Cummings common sense and very much guidance with no legal force

Toothsil · 05/08/2020 22:44

Bubble up - I kept seeing people posting "I'm bubbling up with my mum" - it just sounds ridiculous

Staycation
Stay safe

fodderbeet · 05/08/2020 22:44

It is what it is. I keep bloody saying and driving myself insane!!

Uhohmummy · 05/08/2020 22:45

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the horror that is “blended learning” yet.

pinkstripeycat · 05/08/2020 22:45

Oh yes and staycation - you’re not staying, you are GOING on holiday

Thurmanmurman · 05/08/2020 22:45

Bubble, social distancing, shielding. Most of it really

lovelybittasquirrel · 05/08/2020 22:46

"When all this is over"

RedRosie · 05/08/2020 22:46

Pretty much all of it.

But I have a particular loathing for "bubble". It used to be a lovely word ... Now I cringe every time I hear it.

(Shudders)

MarshaBradyo · 05/08/2020 22:46

So many
Shielding
Key worker
Supply chain (earlier on)
Challenging times
Uncertain times
Unprecedented

Covid pronounced the wrong way

Pinkchocolate · 05/08/2020 22:46

“Underlying health conditions” as a reason why some people’s deaths are totally fine. I have family members with health conditions who have a really good chance of living another 20-50 years. Underlying health conditions doesn’t mean ready to die.

MarshaBradyo · 05/08/2020 22:46

Oh and

blended learning

MarshaBradyo · 05/08/2020 22:47

Bubble

has burst / popped

Othering · 05/08/2020 22:48

My eyes roll very hard with the new pronunciation of kov-vid. When did coe-vid morph in to kov-vid. Who decided that one. It's mainly highbrow radio folks who seem to have adopted it, like a badge of honour and being in the know.

Katjolo · 05/08/2020 22:49

Stay alert

Whatisthisfuckery · 05/08/2020 22:49

All of it.

Missushbb · 05/08/2020 22:49

Furlough, working from home, blended learning (always hated that one anyway) sanitise, face covering. New normal!

SockYarn · 05/08/2020 22:50

"Safe".

Totally meaningless.

Missushbb · 05/08/2020 22:50

@Whatisthisfuckery

All of it.
Agreed!
stressbucket1 · 05/08/2020 22:50
