Aberdeen lockdown.

I have just heard that the city is now on lockdown for at least a week due to selfish people rushing out to the pub.
I live in England and am due to fly back home (I m Scottish) on sunday.
I want to see my 79 year old parents. How many more summers will I see them for?
Aibu to literally break down crying (alone dont want adult dc to see) and drink myself to sleep?
I hate myself for being stuck here. I m a teacher and only have school holidays to go back.
Ds 32 and I have a plan to go back permanently once Dd 26 leaves home but I cant stop worrying I wont see them again.
Df has health problems so I m not being dramatic.
I was in a relationship with an English man,so I stayed here but I m not now.
I m 52 and feel like a little girl and it s taking all my willpower not to cry.
Sorry to unload, I just cant talk to anyone irl as they all know me as the strong one.

People are being asked not to travel to Aberdeen. Those in Aberdeen have a 5 mile limit put on them for leisure purposes. Why the heck do you think it is acceptable to travel from the South East if England, OP, for a visit? FFS, just obey the rules and the restrictions may get lifted in time for you to visit your parents before you have to return to work.

It is hard but it will be harder if you are an asymptomatic carrier and give the virus to someone else, especially your elderly parents. If you go then don't moan in the future if others don't follow the rules and pass on Covid to your parents either.

Racoonworld · 05/08/2020 19:41

Please don’t go to Aberdeen. I’m in the South East too and we are doing well here at the moment with low case numbers. We really don’t need people travelling to and returning from hot spot areas and potentially spreading it here. Please observe the lockdown rules that are in place for a reason, current advice is not to travel to Aberdeen.

DubaiDublin73 · 05/08/2020 19:49

Is it Aberdeen City you'd be going to OP?

minnieok · 05/08/2020 19:57

If you need to visit for care (this doesn't just mean physically helping, it can mean helping with paperwork for instance ) then go ahead but once inside the city abide by the strict rules. But if you can delay do. That said I was there 2 days ago but only at one petrol station and the ferry port

SheepandCow · 05/08/2020 20:01

Why the 'bollocks' if you agree with me @uniglowooljumper? ConfusedI pointed out that as the airports were open OP might as well visit her parents. So 'living with it' as you say.

Yes we need the oil workers, but they could quarantine (if coming from a hotspot). Private transport to selected quarantine hotels.

It's not just oil workers anyhow. The airport is presumably also being used by Aberdeen locals returning from Spain and elsewhere on holiday.

Whether or not anyone agrees with a non restricted airport, my point is that whilst there aren't any restrictions it's unfair to tell OP to stay away.

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 20:02

@DubaiDublin73 I m from Kincorth so outside the city centre. It's a housing estate few miles outside city

@babyboomtastic not really. Long story but my sister lives with a man in one bedroom flat and he doesn't like visitors at all.
Here dd has her own room, nice size house and garden and near to her work. We are not in London.

It’s rubbish, isn’t it, OP? I am in the same boat - was due to travel up this weekend to see family but no longer happening (my flight was actually cancelled before the lockdown was announced, but I wouldn’t have been going now anyway).

Hopefully you can rebook for when the lockdown has lifted.

Mumofone87 · 05/08/2020 20:11

Kincorth is Aberdeen City. Aberdeen as a whole has been placed on a form of lock down. I personally think you’d be silly to travel up when we’ve been asked to not travel outside. I have a gran who isn’t doing too great in Alford, and had planned to visit this weekend. I will not be going, as we have been told not to travel!

Littlejacksmummy · 05/08/2020 20:13

Kincorth is very very much city. Its 10 minutes walk to union Square! I don't think u could get much more "city" unless you lived on union Street Grin

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 20:14

I m hoping to rebook. Even a few weeks would be better than nothing.
Can only hope.

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 20:16

@Littlejacksmummy I know. 18 bus gets you to union street in 10 mins.
Guess I was clutching at straws.Sad

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 20:23

@queenatom were you flying with Easyjet? Havent had any emails about my flight on sunday being cancelled yet?

Littlejacksmummy · 05/08/2020 20:30

No clutching at straws, you walk it in ten mins :) very nice walk too along the river. I lived at caiesdykes.

If I were u, I would just go. Be careful. I have family visiting me in less than 2 weeks from the city. They will still be coming because they have been super careful and stayed inside, not like the pub crawling idiots.

recklessruby · 05/08/2020 20:39

@Littlejacksmummy the river Dee. Beautiful.
Sadly mum and dad cant walk that far so I get the bus when I m with them

People just 'bending' the rules are part of the problem here.

It's not life or death. Just stay away ffs.

queenatom · 05/08/2020 21:12
@queenatom were you flying with Easyjet? Havent had any emails about my flight on sunday being cancelled yet?
No - different airline.

Moonfig · 05/08/2020 23:40

Easyjet have been good for allowing rescheduling even on non cancelled flights.

I hope you get up there soon.

tableanadchairs · 05/08/2020 23:58

I arrived yesterday to visit family and l think l have to stay here till Tuesday at least. I am unsure if l am actually allowed to travel outside the city.
If air travelers can leave can l.?

Caplin · 06/08/2020 00:28

@tableanadchairsyes, there is no restriction on you leaving. There is a restriction on people travelling in and out for leisure purposes.

If you are leaving to go home then fine. If you have been to one of the affected premises then self isolate when you get h9me. Otherwise crack on.

YerAWizardHarry · 06/08/2020 00:37

@recklessruby BIG rumours online that a group of men in their 20s from Kincorth went on a golfing outing on a bus together and they're now all testing positive. May just be online gossip but I wouldn't risk it.

thetimehasbegan · 06/08/2020 00:46

It's so shit for you and for your parents - I bet they were looking forward to seeing you. It's only a decision you can make but personally I wouldn't. It's just been put into lockdown, I think we need to follow the rules where we can and although it would be lovely to see your parents, it's not an necessity.

However, it is completely your decision and I can understand how gutting it is. In a way it would just be easier if your flight got cancelled because then the decision is taken out of your hand for you.

You will get to see your parents soon Thanks

DubaiDublin73 · 06/08/2020 05:40

I think there's Golf Clubs on the list of possible infection sites. But it surprised me how long that list was.

Mumofone87 · 06/08/2020 06:27

I’ve heard the same rumour about the group of lads from Kincorth. They were also in The Abbot in Kincorth which has now deleted both its fb post about it and their fb page. It wouldn’t surprise me if the rumour was true tbf.
The Alford golf club was the one on the list. NHS have said the list is correct.

recklessruby · 06/08/2020 07:34

@Mumofone87 oh no The Abbot was full last week apparently.
I hope my flight is cancelled and can rebook.
Think I better make sure my parents have all they need and warn them no "nipping out to Spar".
