Woman at GP surgery today.

So today I had to go to GP for a procedure.

Got there and waited as per instructions on door because someone was in reception.

I also rang the buzzer so they could wave me through to waiting area if I wanted.

I had put my mask on.

Lady (60's maybe?) came right up next to me and stood. I obviously moved away for social distancing.

Then asked me if I'd rang bell and I said yes, was waiting as someone in reception area already.

She then opened the door, went in and waited in reception against rules. Rules are clearly A.G. eye sight level on the door we were stood at. It also says read before entering! So I then had to wait outside even longer.

AIBU to think she's a dick and also reception should have sent her back out as per the rules. I accept they may not have clocked me so couldn't also tell her to wait her turn!

I just think it's going to become much harder if people who decide the don't care about rules start getting ahead of those who are following them. It may lead to more and more people giving up on them?

Similar happened to me in supermarket. Young woman about 38ish walked to front of queue and announced to those obeying one out one in queue that nobody bothered with that now and marched in without mask. I was next in after a few minutes and there she was chatting to shelf-filler. Shelf-filler asked me if I wanted something off her trolley and I loudly informed her that I was waiting for woman to move. After much eye rolling and loud sighing she moved slowly on deliberately taking her time over each selection. I waited patiently and then she walked wrong way up aisle and beckoned me to overtake her. When I got to the till she was ahead of me. ....how did that happen. We got outside and she had parked on double yellows and got ticket which she threw on the pavement. That will cost.

Wilko312 · 05/08/2020 15:00

I think people responding are missing the point because 1. The lady had asked if the OP had rang the bell - so knew enough of the rules to think that needed to be done 2. Was obviously huffed about the fact she had to wait behind another person 3. Made the OP wait even longer to go into a waiting room that was only allowing 1 person in.

This woman was an opportunist and a rule flouter and the more of them there are in society the longer the virus will be spread around.

Stupid inconsiderate cow. Even if she did qualify to go in under an over 60s scheme, she should have told the OP so she wouldn't think she just walked ahead of her.

It's called manners - or in her case lack of, which is also rife!

Port1aCastis · 05/08/2020 15:01

The rules are a shambles, but what dud you or anyone else say to the person (age irrelevant) concerned because I fail to see what Mn can do about it

Staplemaple · 05/08/2020 15:03

Not sure of the relevance of her age, but anyway. It doesn't seem like a great system to be honest, unless they clean the bell between uses then they shouldn't be encouraging people to touch it, if she was able to walk straight through as well then seems a bit pointless, also confusing, she probably didn't know what to do. Here you wait either in your car or they have put a cover over the outdoor area and a few chairs, so it's outside and well ventilated and then they come out when it's time for your appointment. In winter it will be coming to the window in the foyer and getting buzzed in to wait in the waiting room which will have some chairs removed and you'll have to wear your mask.

ChikiTIKI · 05/08/2020 15:07

I wouldn't get too upset about it, I doubt she did any harm.

Some people near us have been told by gp receptionists after they've arrived to go and wait at other entrances etc and then been left (in the rain!) until they have given up and gone home. Maybe that happened to her recently and she is fed up of it?

JinglingHellsBells · 05/08/2020 15:08

Age relevance? She might not have realised.

Oh FFS!@TheQueef

I am 60s, still working as a professional and can tell you that most women in their 60s are not ga ga, can still read, have their own teeth (usually whitened) and resent being considered some kind of morons because we are a little bit older.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2020 15:10

Yanbu but I think everyone should use their own judgement like Dominic Cummings did 😉.

I’m joking she was bang out of order but shit rolls downhill and the government doesn’t follow its own guideline which makes it harder to enforce.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/08/2020 15:10

The over 60s have priority where I am in most places since Covid started

@ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress Hahahahahahaha

Since when? Sorry but you mean the over 70s.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/08/2020 15:11

@itsgettingweird You could have followed her and said 'OY! There's a queue and I'm in it.'

Also if you had an appt then surely they would have seen you on time and her next or whoever was first on their list.

Thisismytimetoshine · 05/08/2020 15:12

@GrumpyHoonMain

At my GP the over 65s, people who are shielding due to official medical advice, and pregnant women are told not to wait in the queue and to go straight in.
Indeed. Sometimes people's conception of "the rules" diverges wildly from reality.
Jaxhog · 05/08/2020 15:22

This pandemic is bringing out the worst in people. It seems that some people are so arrogant (or thick) that they don't think the rules apply to them.

She was extremely rude.

Jaxhog · 05/08/2020 15:23

My surgery has just one rule. You stay outside in the car park until called, and you wear a mask inside. No exceptions.

Staplemaple · 05/08/2020 15:24

What if you don't have a car and walked?

Staplemaple · 05/08/2020 15:24

Okay I misread haha, it's the same here, although they have a more realistic approach to masks that some people medically cannot wear one.

DitchinVirgin · 05/08/2020 15:26

Having asked you and then going in anyway without explanation she was a dick. YANBU.

Elouera · 05/08/2020 15:28

Maybe I'm missing something, but could the women have been asked to go to her car to collect something? A script, letter, referral etc and was just returning to the receptionist or Dr with it? No excuse to willingly queue jump, but maybe she didnt realise it would delay you, or assumed she had to return asap to the Dr/receptionist?

You've misunderstood my post.
ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 05/08/2020 15:30

I mean over 60s.
I live in Italy. Hmm

JinglingHellsBells · 05/08/2020 15:30

What if you don't have a car and walked?

It means you WAIT in the CAR PARK (not in a car, if you don't have one.)

JinglingHellsBells · 05/08/2020 15:31

I live in Italy

Well maybe you should have said that as the OP doesn't we assume.

JinglingHellsBells · 05/08/2020 15:33

You've misunderstood my post.

It was unclear @TheQueef

Should have perhaps said 'Why is age relevant?' As your post implies you agree with the OP.

Staplemaple · 05/08/2020 15:33

I said I misread it, NO NEED FOR CAP LOCKS. Probably dangerous to stand in the car park mind as a pedestrian.

itsgettingweird · 05/08/2020 15:35

@TheQueef

Age relevance?

She might not have realised.

She did realise because she asked me and spoke to me.

Guess age isn't relevant other than i was surprised someone who's in a higher risk category than me would break rules to get in front of me.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 05/08/2020 15:36

There is another thread with everyone agreeing that a poster's friend shouldn't have to explain why she goes into shops without a mask, and anyone who asks should be told to fuck off.
Yet here, someone who may, or may not be doing what she is allowed to do is a fuck and a stupid inconsiderate cow.

Funny place Mumsnet.

Just like the lady in the other thread had a hidden disability, maybe this one did (which she shouldn't have to explain to anyone) Maybe the GP, knowing of her personal situation has said to her "don't queue, just come through"

Maybe she works there and was checking the OP knew she had to ring.
