Would your Mum do the tiktok challenge of lying on the floor injured?

If you watch tiktok, I'm sure you've seen loads of this, where the son/daughter/grandson rings up their Mum/Grandma and says the police are following them home as they were caught speeding and that they've give the excuse that Ma etc is injured and that's why they're speeding. Amazing the amount who would do it!

I know for a fact that my mother wouldn't do it for me, though I suspect she would do it for my brother or sister!

I'd tell my child to face up to the consequences of their actions.... but the ones I've seen have been black Americans, and I might think differently if I were in their position.

It is a really daft prank though, not very funny.

AgnesNaismith · 04/08/2020 06:49

No, I wouldn’t. TikTok is mind numbingly unoriginal, built for narcissists who refuse to put their time and energy into nurturing any real talent. The highest dopamine reward for the lowest output, performing seals.....top points for sexual exploitation of children too.

AuntieMarys · 04/08/2020 06:52

bubblybarbara bet you'd call the police if you were the victim of crime though.

Avelosa · 04/08/2020 06:58

Do people not realise that the person hasn’t actually been caught speeding and the police aren’t really involved? Nobody is actually lying to the police, it’s just a prank

Pizzapromotion · 04/08/2020 06:59

Do you know I wouldn't even consider this, I'd be horrified if one of mine asked me to cover for them like this......and I direct you to my thread about my DS1 last night Grin

The idea that a parent would do "anything" to protect their child from facing the consequences of their actions, actions which could, if not stopped, cause tragedy to themselves and/or others is truly shocking to me.

But the parent doesn't know that and they do it anyway

Yes of course - but the question was how would your mother respond if you asked her that question. Mine would carry on lecturing me until her dying day!
screamer1 · 04/08/2020 07:13

This is the weirdest question I've ever seen on MN.

OP, you say it's just a tik tok prank. But the parents don't know that, surely that's the whole point of the prank? So if course this is going to turn into a discussion about the moral dilemma of covering for your kids if you think they've committed a crime.

It sounds like a fucking idiotic prank and pretty devoid of lols.

tmh88 · 04/08/2020 07:28

I think my mum & dad would, I wouldn’t do it for DS I don’t think but who knows I’m the moment Grin

Why would an adult find this sort of tedious shit funny? 🤔

yelyah22 · 04/08/2020 08:54

Mine definitely would! My dad would probably get some fake blood out too.

There are people who enjoy Love Island. The world takes all sorts.

Lookyloo · 04/08/2020 17:30

The funny bit about it is the lengths the Mums go to to look like they've fallen down the stairs. Maybe I've a weird sense of humour.

My 88 year old granny would absolutely do this but my brother says I’m not allowed to try it Sad

Ponoka7 · 04/08/2020 17:40

I would cover up for my adult children or my son in law. He video'd his stop and search during lock down. He'd come off a twelve hour shift and had his work NHS badge etc on. The way he was treated by the Police was disgusting. But they must have had to make up the numbers for their searches so went for an easy stop, rather than the cars that looked like they contained dealers, or the lads on bikes. The Police in my city aren't your friends. Or many other places, given the chance they would fine your children playing in your own garden and tell you to get out of parks, or stop you buying Easter eggs, for no reason whatsoever.
