to find this invitation slightly bizarre?

My two children received an invitation today to a three year old's birthday party.

At the bottom it states:-

Tickets £5 on the door ROAR

It is in a church hall. I don't know what entertainment/food is provided. We are fairly new to the area and not been to many parties so I have questions:-

Is it £5 for both my children?
Do I bring a present as well?
Shall I pretend I didn't see it?
Right of admission reserved?
This can't be normal, surely?

WTF

eh?

dont go

obscene

TrinityRhino · 01/10/2007 21:22

that is very odd

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 01/10/2007 21:22

bin it

UndercoverWitch · 01/10/2007 21:23

Go and post a card but on the top of the card, tell the mum that it's rude, so she should go forth & multiply.

stripeytiger · 01/10/2007 21:25

Put it straight in the bin.

MrsSeanSlater · 01/10/2007 21:26

Tickets? To a child's birthday party? I would not pay to attend a birthday party. They are being extremely cheeky.

partyswizzle · 01/10/2007 21:27

Oh bugger.

I thought as much, but it is a smallish place and the children need some friends and it would make life awkward if I did that.

Can't bring myself to turn up and smile and hand over £5 though.

how odd, that's the second one on here recently about wanting a fiver for a kids party.
very rude and NOT normal.
don't go

geekgirl · 01/10/2007 21:29

cheeky feckers!

you wouldn't want to be friends with them, anyway. They might charge you 2.95 for having your dc over for tea.

hunkermunker · 01/10/2007 21:29

I think it's the ROAR that gets me most.

Who tf are they expecting?!

Twiglett · 01/10/2007 21:30

use it as an opening conversation with other mothers

"Hello, I just wondered if you were going to x's party.. do you know whether its £5 each child? Is that the normal way around here?"

but I wouldn't go to party personally ...

I KNOW. ROAR?? I thought maybe it was a joke - but no indication that it was.

The dad runs clubs and events so maybe is trying to cover himself legally or something? - or so used to putting it on things that it is automatic?

If there is an RSVP phone number on it I would telephone and in a disbelieving/shocked voice I would ask all of the questions you mentioned. If the answer is yes to any of these burn the invitation THAT IS SO RUDE . In fact give me the number and I will ring for you.

MrsSeanSlater · 01/10/2007 21:33

Maybe it's some sort of in-joke in the area. You need to speak to another mum if you know someone else who's been invited.

partyswizzle · 01/10/2007 21:33

ROAR stands for Right of Admission Refused - I think.

OP posts:
TenderheartBear · 01/10/2007 21:34

£5??? do you now any or the other parents thats been invited? do they all think its a very bizarre way of doing a kids party too??

DeedeePickles · 01/10/2007 21:34

Perhaps it's Big Cat Fancy Dress and you have to ROAR to get in

PillockInThePumpkin · 01/10/2007 21:34

do you know the family through nursery or playgroup? if you do then maybe have a quiet word with the staff and ask if that's what's normally done?

UnquietDad · 01/10/2007 21:35

It's Right Of Admission Reserved.

So if they don't like the look of you they can turn you away.

pointydog · 01/10/2007 21:36

are you sure it's a 3 year old's party abd not a 30 year old?

partyswizzle · 01/10/2007 21:37

I will try and speak to one of the other mums at playgroup - get an idea if it is normal. Doesn't sound like it though.

It is also fancy dress with a Thomas the Tank engine theme, so more possible expense.

How do you dress up as TTTE anyway?

xXxamyxXx · 01/10/2007 21:38

its a bit much you shouldnt go but maybe if dcs would miss out on a chance to make some friends you should its a strange one though
