Hi

I've had Diarrhea this morning.

1st time no blood
2nd time lots of blood
3rd time no blood.

Would you bother calling 111 yet after only 1 bout or should I leave it a day or so?

Can't you make GP appt?

Toomboom · 03/08/2020 07:49

Really depends on how much blood. Contact your GP this morning to ask to see them.

bonjonbovi · 03/08/2020 07:49

No I wouldn’t.

Monitor yourself for the next few hours. If it was bright red, it is more likely to be at the end of the bowel so a small tear or cut through straining.

The fact #3 was normal is quite reassuring.

vikingwife · 03/08/2020 07:50

Ok is the blood bright red ? If so, that is usually associated with things like anal fissures etc & bright red blood is usually less of a concern.

If the blood is dark j especially if mucous or jelly like in consistency that is often associated with a bowel bleed

For me to get a GP appointment I have to complete an online form and then someone reads it and emails back but I did the form and they said to call 111. But I would of preferred just a GP appointment .

If it was red, no. If it was brown or black, yes.

Oly4 · 03/08/2020 07:51

Not 111. But you do need to make an appt with your GP

Womencanlift · 03/08/2020 07:52

This happens to me once in a while. Usually (and sorry for TMI) if I have had to strain to release. The only time I was concerned was when it was significant - as in I thought it was my period coming out the back.

That time I did a symptom checker online and it said to get medical attention. I went up to A&E as it was the weekend and they checked and said there was nothing to be concerned about

vikingwife · 03/08/2020 07:52

Also to actually answer your Q as you don’t say you feel unwell I would make a GP appointment

Please try to take a photo of the stool & blood of you can. I was so embarrassed to show them my photo but it was helpful for the doctors.

If you are feeling unwell with vomiting & intense abdominal pain then yes I would go to emergency

Has the diorhhea subsided? Do you have a history of bowel issues?

taybert · 03/08/2020 07:55

If you’ve just had diarrhoea this morning and already done the form it can’t be your GP surgery who has read the form and told you to call 111- they won’t even be open yet. Is it the online 111 advice they’ve linked to? If you call 111 you’ll wait on hold for ages then they’ll tell you to call your GP. Look again at how to contact your GP and do that instead. Hope you feel better soon.

2020hello · 03/08/2020 07:56

The amount of blood the second time was lots, it was like having a heavy period. Which is why I was surprised no blood on 3rd time

Personally I would ring 111. If they say to just monitor then that's ok but they might suggest an appointment.

Phone the GP when they open. Your GP will still be accepting phone calls (if they aren’t report them to the CQC, they have to offer non-digital access).

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 03/08/2020 08:10

was it bright red?

2020hello · 03/08/2020 08:13

Yes it was bright red I would say.

Call 111 and let them decide.

BrummyMum1 · 03/08/2020 08:17

It doesn’t sound like an emergency situation though.

Savingshoes · 03/08/2020 08:19

They are an advice line during the day. They would advise you to book an appointment with your GP or go to A&E.

HotDogKetchup · 03/08/2020 08:19

Call your GP.

jessstan2 · 03/08/2020 08:19

No. Wait and see if it persists, it might be cleared up now whatever it was.

FourPlasticRings · 03/08/2020 08:20

You've not eaten copius amounts of beetroot, have you?

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 03/08/2020 08:21

there is an online symptom checker for this, bright red is seen as near the exit, so a tear on the way out and not a concern. but try and find the symptom checker for your piece of mind.

TheVanguardSix · 03/08/2020 08:21

No.
I would go to my GP surgery's website and do an e-consult, which will allow you to detail your issue. Your GP will ring you back with to discuss next steps.
