To be appalled by Ocado delivery charge

£6.99 ! regardless of when you order. Just tried to book an order for a month's time.

You used to be able to sometimes get a £0 charge if you didn't mind having an unpopular slot. Even during lockdown.

I've been a customer for almost 20 years - time to move elsewhere. Maybe Waitrose? What are they like?

Morrisons are good. My only gripe is most ready meals don't contain British chicken. No biggy really as DH cooks all our food from scratch but if you like a ready meal it might be an issue.

IncrediblySadToo · 01/08/2020 19:46

@Yellowbutterfly1

I still don’t know why they are accepting new customers when they still won’t allow deliveries to some existing customers despite them paying for delivery passes.
Because you wanting a delivery in Hull doesn't affect my delivery in Reading.

I'm not actually in Reading, but I've been having deliveries again for a good couple of months now.

I was miffed when they wouldn't honour my pass in the beginning of lockdown, especially when I knew that not all their deliveries were going to people shielding.

However Tesco were amazing and delivered to me (I'm lockdown hard, but not officially shielding) all through. I honestly can't praise them enough.

I'll keep my midweek pass (£1.50pm for (Tue-Thur) and see what it's like when they switch to M&S.

IncrediblySadToo · 01/08/2020 19:49

Oh and until LD I had had an anytime pass for years, not just a mid week.

MitziK · 01/08/2020 19:58

It's rubbish - but the fee itself isn't that bad.

To get to a large supermarket and do a significant shop on public transport = £1.50 each way. You'd need two people to be able to carry it back, so £6 in all - or one person (£3) plus a minicab back (£5-6).

Still not using them again, but not due to any delivery charge.

Habbyhadno · 01/08/2020 22:46

Morrisons and ocado come from the same warehouse by the way. A driver told me this, he said one day he'll be delivering Ocado and the next day Morrisons.
They were amazing during lockdown for us, we got a delivery every week without fail and with zero subs, but I can't justify the price. I did an identical shop for click and collect at Tesco and it was £30 cheaper and £0 to collect.

wowfudge · 01/08/2020 23:01

Morrisons have moved to picking from store. Not sure if that's only in some areas or all over.

Shallowsubmarine · 01/08/2020 23:26

I have been a customer for over 10 years and have been paying £9.99 a month. Average weekly spend £150. I discovered on here some people are paying far far less so rang them to ask for a discount and the next thing I new they just cancelled it....

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 01/08/2020 23:50

I guess you haven't been on this thread, Shallowsubmarine

(Or the previous one.) So many people over lockdown have had the unexpected experience of finding they're paying way more than others.

TheHighestSardine · 02/08/2020 00:11

customer loyalty

More fool you. Large corporations only think in statistical quantities, single clients can go hang.

Take a leaf from the book of dealing with gas&electric providers, and move on whenever needed.

Osirus · 02/08/2020 01:09

I use Ocado every week and I don’t find they are any more expensive than Tesco.

I’ve found that if you book a delivery with short notice you can get it cheaper. And for me it varies. I paid £3.99 for a midweek, midday delivery last week.

The week before I think it was less than that.

Watdafark · 02/08/2020 06:35

Are you also fumming, inraged and find it rediculous?

WhentheDealGoesDown · 02/08/2020 06:55

I find Tesco cheap for delivery, I have a midweek pass and use my Clubcard points, it works out at £7 in points for 6 months. I did look at getting the odd Ocado slot and thought it looked expensive

GiantPinesAhem · 02/08/2020 16:03

You missed discusting
GladAllOver · 04/08/2020 19:22

And disgusting too.

Technonan · 04/08/2020 19:44

No delivery charge from Waitrose if you order over £60 worth.

silentpool · 04/08/2020 19:59

I'm happy with Waitrose. I get a delivery once a month and then pick up bits at Lidl or Sainsbury.

Fatted · 04/08/2020 20:02

You're essentially paying for all of the extra drivers they had to hire when everyone was panic buying online.

Iceland delivery is free. And probably cheaper for your shopping as well.

MissDollyMix · 04/08/2020 20:06

I agree they’re taking appalling advantage of the current situation to hike their prices. I’m now doing Morrison’s click and collect, it’s free. You can get a slot with 24 hours notice and you can edit up until 11.59 the night before. I’m sick of overpriced Ocado so I’m voting with my feet.

GladAllOver · 04/08/2020 22:27

*Iceland delivery is free. And probably cheaper for your shopping as well."
But they have a much smaller range of goods to choose from.

Ibizafun · 04/08/2020 23:15

Amazon Fresh is the way to go. No delivery charge if over £40 I think

Starsky82 · 04/08/2020 23:34

I signed up for the smart pass and pay £3.99 each month, all slots are free then. If you order regularly then it’s more than worth it x

Trumpsboxers · 10/05/2026 21:21

Ocado down to 2.3/5 on Trustpilot. Enough said.
