With my toast?

Askastupidquestion · 31/07/2020 10:06

When I make toast, after it's buttered I put it butter side to butter side on the plate. This keeps the bottom, unbuttered side crisp and stops it going soggy. Dh has just told me (after 15 years) that it's really weird and nobody does that!

So, aibu??

Lockdown really has gone on too long, hasn't it?

senua · 31/07/2020 10:10

When I make toast, after it's buttered I eat it. That stops it going soggy.

Redcherries · 31/07/2020 10:10

do you mean you prop them up, to stop them getting a little damp?

I know someone who does it. Im a terrible person though who dunks toast in my tea.

Cupisalwayshalffull · 31/07/2020 10:12

It's good to be weird

lizzie0712 · 31/07/2020 10:12

I do this too!

Queenoftheashes · 31/07/2020 10:12

I do that - it means the sticky parts are contained

joaner36 · 31/07/2020 10:13

You gotta make it into a pyramid to let it go cold then butter it!

Soubriquet · 31/07/2020 10:13

I do this

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t!

Etinox · 31/07/2020 10:14
Blush That sounded funny in my head.

@Askastupidquestion I have a strict buttering toast routine. While the bread is toasting I cut two thin as possible slices of butter from the fridge butter, not the butter dish butter, then make a butter sandwich, turning it over after a few seconds to ensure the butter saturates both pieces. I then spread marmite, jam, peanut butter- often more than one on each slice but not touching of course. I don't have witnesses.

ChangeThePassword · 31/07/2020 10:15

Doesn't sound weird. Sounds very sensible.

I usually just have them as side to side as potsticker, slightly overlapped, overhanging the edge of the plate.

But I might adopt your method in future.

No, I mean put them sandwich-esque so the butter sides meet!

If that's the case, why is 'hot buttered toast' a much more common phrase than 'cold buttered toast' Wink

Notverybright · 31/07/2020 10:20

Can I have a diagram or picture please? Living up to my username and all that but I don’t get it.

Notverybright · 31/07/2020 10:20

Ah I see

UnfinishedSymphon · 31/07/2020 10:22

So it's on the plate like a sandwich

Notverybright · 31/07/2020 10:37

In answer to your question it’s not unusual but I’m not sure how it stops the toast getting soggy.

SquirrelFan · 31/07/2020 10:41

@Etinox I too, have a routine! After the toast is popped, I butter the toast and then put the plate of toast on the still-warm toaster to keep it warm while I stir the eggs, refresh my coffee, etc. It ensures the toast doesn't go cold, and the butter melts even more (cold house -butter never soft). DH thinks I will cause a fire but I haven't yet...

Apolloanddaphne · 31/07/2020 10:44

Surely you butter both slices then pick one up and start eat right away. Why would anyone put them with down for any length of time. Buttered toast has to be eaten immediately.

You're assuming I'd only have 2 Grin

Am I weird in that I butter then put on jam or whatever immediately then carry it to the lounge where I eat it? 🤣

LetsHearItForTheBuoy · 31/07/2020 10:49

I put the first slice on the plate and stick a slab of butter on it. I then put the 2nd slice on the top of that and butter it. By the time it's done, the first slice is already buttered itself by the top slice melting the butter in Grin

5lilducks · 31/07/2020 10:49

I do the same OP.

Askastupidquestion · 31/07/2020 10:54

The steam from the bottom toast makes the top toast soggy. If top toast is butter side down, that side is already soggy. Science innit

You're weird Wink
