As far as I know they arent suitable for unsupervised sleeps i.e. overnight

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 30/07/2020 18:15

Also very interested to know this - 3 years ago when I had my first this is exactly what we did and it was the only way she would be put down to sleep but I think the advice has changed since then?

emmaluggs · 30/07/2020 18:22

Sleepyheads aren’t to be used for unsupervised sleeping, have a look on the lullaby trust website for advice etc. That said we used a sleepyhead in a next to me crib for our first, but our second was a brilliant sleeper and we didn’t use it 2nd time round.

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/07/2020 18:22

Both mine slept in a sleep head in the next to me crib in our room. I don’t see why not?

WhatWouldPennyDo · 30/07/2020 18:24

I wouldn’t risk it. There is some great advice from the Lullaby Trust on the use of sleep aids like the sleepyhead.

Pesimistic · 30/07/2020 18:47

They are not safe for over night sleeping. They pose a suffocation risk. Alone, on back, no loose blankets in a cot.

Letshavesometea · 30/07/2020 18:55

No, its not worth the risk

AldiAisleofCrap · 30/07/2020 18:59

Definitely not.

AldiAisleofCrap · 30/07/2020 19:01

I don’t see why not? @OverTheRainbow88 really? Is an increased risk of SiDS to something worth bothering about?

AldiAisleofCrap · 30/07/2020 19:01

*not

SacramentoQueen · 30/07/2020 19:01

I think the risk is mainly to do with overheating. Babies can’t regulate their own body temperature and they sink to deeply into a sleepyhead so it surrounds them too much and they get too warm. I read a story on Facebook a while ago about a mum who thought her baby was sleeping brilliant the night they introduced a sleepyhead and it turned out the reason they weren’t waking so often was because they were slipping into a coma due to overheating

ballsdeep · 30/07/2020 19:02

I used it on my second 4 years ago. I've had another baby 6 months ago and when it was in the next to me crib the HV nearly had a fit. However, we use it. We took her out of it for a few nights and her sleep was horrendous. We out her back in there and she was back to sleeping through.

dementedpixie · 30/07/2020 19:03

It has raised edges. Babies should sleep on a flat surface. Only ok for supervised sleep

Idontbelieveit12 · 30/07/2020 19:03

No, not safe

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 30/07/2020 19:22

No DS is two soon and it was very clear both then and when DN was born almost five years ago, they are not for unsupervised sleeping, so I saw no point in getting them to nap in that when tiny as I'd then have a different set up at night and have to change day sleeping at six months when they can be left alone to nap. Flat firm surface no loose covers/pillows/bumpers etc. We used a grosnug and then grobags and still do

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/07/2020 19:28

I made the decision it was safer for mine to sleep in a sleepyhead in the next to me crib rather than on my chest in my bed where I would fall asleep and wake up to find them still on me. I would use it again for my third baby. I’ve never read about any SIDS deaths linked to a sleepy head. A cacoonababy yes but that had straps to strap around the baby.

Lilybet1980 · 30/07/2020 19:32

Have a look for the Sleepyhead sleep Q&A. The manufacturer states it’s safe for supervised overnight sleeping and this document outlines what they mean by that.

StoneColdBitch · 31/07/2020 00:21

They're not safe for unsupervised sleep - the Lullaby Trust is very clear on this. I wouldn't buy one.

IlanaWexler · 31/07/2020 00:23

No, it's not safe. & also do you really want them relying on the sleepyhead to fall asleep? You're making a rod for your own back.

Firsttimemummybear · 31/07/2020 07:38

Hi all - thanks for all of your answers! Love mumsnet for that. We have already bought one but will just use it for naps/somewhere to chill SUPERVISED after reading all of these.

Enjoy the weekend!

Purflo do a similar product which has been certified by the Lullaby Trust for overnight sleeping. It's breathable and has a firm base. purflo.com/sleep-tight-baby-bed/

dementedpixie · 31/07/2020 08:44

I dont think it has been certified safe by the lullaby trust. They would not certify anything that is not completely flat with no raised padded sides

Winterwoollies · 31/07/2020 08:48

We have one and I love it for naps in the noisy kitchen during the day. It’s brilliant. But only when I’m around.

This is not true!
