To think my portion was too large (photo)?

I’m living a bit ‘on the road’ at the moment (essential) and relying on eating out - trying to be as healthy as I can as I’m trying (!) to lose weight.

I have attached a photo of tonight’s evening meal, my only meal of the day plus a few snacks. My photo isn’t the best unfortunately but it was a bowl of spicy rice and a bowl of bean stew/soup (I’m vegetarian).

Aibu to think I had too much? Would you have eaten all of it? Unfortunately through years of dieting and binge eating I have lost sight of what a normal portion of food is and how ‘normal’ people eat.

Ps i appreciate it doesn’t look very nice but it was actually quite tasty!
@SchrodingersImmigrant bloody lovely isn't it Grin
Damn it! My DH really likes the çiğ köfte, I have mixed feelings. It's so tasty, but there is something about consistency I am not 100% on. We are more "deeper" into ME when we cook.

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 30/07/2020 10:41

Too much in one sitting!

britnay · 30/07/2020 10:42

It doesn't matter if its the only meal in one day, I couldn't physically eat all of that in one sitting.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/07/2020 10:47

@Foodiefoodieyemek bit away from the thread topic, but how is your place preparing for tomorrow? Must be extremely busy and with the social distancing it must be hard!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 30/07/2020 15:27

I genuinely wonder what other folks eat if they think that looks delicious.

I suppose if you enjoy the taste of food that looks like that you will think it looks delicious.

Bluntness100 · 30/07/2020 15:34

It's a cereal bowl not a huge dinner plate

You can use the cutlery for scale, it’s a large plate of rice and is indeed about four recommended portions.

I think the op saying cereal bowl threw everyone, but the cutlery indicates they are large plates and what food place serves meals in cutlery bowls?

Bluntness100 · 30/07/2020 15:34

Sorry cereal bowls.

Thisismytimetoshine · 30/07/2020 15:48

It's not that easy to use the cutlery for scale, really, you can just about see a few fork prongs (tines?). I think op angled the photo the way she did quite deliberately.

workhomesleeprepeat · 30/07/2020 15:55

I don't actually understand why you think we'll be able to judge this Confused or really why you care? Do you feel full? Are you putting on weight/losing weight? Lol people will ask Mumsnet anything Grin

skybluee · 30/07/2020 16:33

There's no proper answer to this really.

If you're eating one meal a day, obviously that needs to be breakfast + lunch + dinner all in one. So it will look large. If it looked like a normal meal, say lunch, you would end up losing weight fast.

You don't say what your snacks are or your intake for the rest of the day, so it's actually impossible for anyone to say whether that meal is too large or too small.

safariboot · 30/07/2020 16:33

That quack linked above who claims a "portion" of carbs should be pathetically small goes on to say "and you should have 4-6 "portions" a day". Most of us have three meals a day, some have fewer. So that "portion" size claim is utterly unhelpful and muddying the waters.

safariboot · 30/07/2020 16:35

Also, the photo is indeed very unhelpful, but the plate looks like a side plate to me, not a dinner plate.

DanceItOut · 30/07/2020 17:25

I mean it is a big portion I would say but if you aren’t eating 3 meals a day and are just having that then a few meals then i wouldn’t say it was bad. It’s all healthy stuff.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 30/07/2020 17:33

Its a humongous portion, especially the rice

cao32xx · 30/07/2020 17:38

Some people are never happy.. if it was too much get the rest to take away... And next time order a small portion.

gerim · 30/07/2020 17:43

Maybe ask the place your eating in if you can take the leftovers home? As it's already paid for it cant see that being a problem. Hope you are ok tho and the 1 meal a day is out of choice and not for any other reason.

Have buffets ever allowed take home?
Mahi24 · 30/07/2020 17:50

It is normal size especially if this is the only meal it looks normal to me. If you see the size of my meals 😂

Mmpip · 30/07/2020 17:51

It's a huge amount. Probably enough for 3 people...

winniestone37 · 30/07/2020 17:53

Yes I’d say too much rice. Mist of us eat too much I think.

Barney60 · 30/07/2020 18:07

Im veggie too. I couldnt eat that much but portion depends on age activity weight height ect Looks more like 2-3 meals to me.

turnthebiglightoff · 30/07/2020 18:07

Everyone must be really busy eating their HUGE salads and absolutely ginormous bowls of lentil soup

Ffs these threads get more and more ridiculous. Has anyone said they can feed a family of 4 for a week on that portion yet?!?

turnthebiglightoff · 30/07/2020 18:08

2-3 meals 😂😂😂

Funguy · 30/07/2020 18:09

These are two cereal bowls. Bit worried about the fact some people say all that food makes them sick! Ooo err! All WHAT food?
grow up.Ffs
That looks fine if you have had little all day but slightly too much rice. You should maybe have 4 heaped tablespoons of rice.
