My last thread was deleted because I was not being "civil" enough, I don't actually think it is a subject there is much room for civility in, but I will try!

My last post was to try and answer some questions about me. Here they are

I think I have answered these.

No I am not a strict vegetarian. I don't buy milk or dairy, but eat it in other peoples houses,

no I don't fly,

foodmiles, well, I take them into consideration, but they are not the only indicator of the environmental impact of food. Tomatoes grown in a heated greenhouse 2 miles away might have more environmental impact than tomatoes grown outside in Spain, and flown in.

I have 2 adopted children, 1 is an adult no longer living at home I currently have 3 foster children, but that is likely to change this week

Yes I have a pet, it came with one of the adopted children.

No I don't smoke

Oh god, does this really need another thread?!

You have made your feelings on the subject clear.

MyChemicalRomancee · 28/07/2020 11:17

🙄🙄🙄

Wolfiefan · 28/07/2020 11:18

Some of us live rurally and need to use a car.

Lardlizard · 28/07/2020 11:18

We use ours less atm

Keepithidden · 28/07/2020 11:19

No it isn't possible I'm afraid. So many people have such strong views and connections with their cars that it isn't possible to question the use of them without automatically generating a massively disproportionate defence mechanism!

User50000999788887876655 · 28/07/2020 11:20

Boring. Reported you clearly want a bun fight.

sqirrelfriends · 28/07/2020 11:20

Fair enough, But I use my car as little as possible and couldn't use it less than I currently do. I understand your sentiment but it's coming across as a bit judgemental.

Witchofzog · 28/07/2020 11:20

You have no idea why people need to use cars. People who do will continue and people who drive to the end of the street are not going to see this thread and suddenly change their ways. Sorry

MyChemicalRomancee · 28/07/2020 11:22

No I am not a strict vegetarian. I don't buy milk or dairy, but eat it in other peoples houses

So you’re points re pollution and saving the planet are completely invalid!

MyChemicalRomancee · 28/07/2020 11:22

Your**
Dang autocorrect.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/07/2020 11:24

Am I allowed to drive my car home from the garage later, or should I push it as it's only a mile?

FourPlasticRings · 28/07/2020 11:25

Ah, it's OK OP. There's a false logic prevalent among mumsnetters that if you don't do everything perfectly and live the life of a monk on a cliff somewhere then you may as well not bother trying to reduce your negative impact on the planet at all. I came across it most recently when someone used it to justify why they keep their hot tub on 24/7. And heaven forbid you be anything other than supportive about that.

VettiyaIruken · 28/07/2020 11:25

You aren't unreasonable to start a discussion about it and raise awareness but you are unreasonable to try to tell people what to do and basically just insult people and rage at them. (I saw your other thread).

If everyone made any little changes they could, it would be great. But you simply can't lecture people, it never goes down well.

Nor does anyone have any obligation to justify themselves, as often happens on threads like this.

NotIncandescentWithRage · 28/07/2020 11:31

No. Impossible for me.

zingally · 28/07/2020 11:32

Good for you, OP. I'm sure.

However, I don't need some randomer on mumsnet telling me what I should do, nor what a "good" person she is.

I shall continue to use my car exactly as I did before. I shall use it this afternoon to go to work, and then I'll drive over to Halfords for a new windscreen wiper.

leftovercoffeecake · 28/07/2020 11:33

No.

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 28/07/2020 11:33

No. You're ridiculous to start another thread on this

ZeldalovesLink · 28/07/2020 11:34

If you promise to go vegan, I’ll promise to use my car less. I actually live 8 miles from the nearest shop, town or other sign of civilisation but I’ll see if I can carpool for shopping with my neighbour once CV is over.

Deal?

Kelcat9494 · 28/07/2020 11:35

I appreciate your concern but I am going to use my car the exact same way as I did before reading this. Thanks though.

boredboredboredboredbored · 28/07/2020 11:36

This! ^^
Suchan1d10t · 28/07/2020 11:36

@mosquitofeast I don't have a car, but I do have asthma, so will you quit smoking as I am not polluting the air with exhaust fumes? Hmm

Read the other thread, can't believe you've started another

englishrosie · 28/07/2020 11:37

No

Bye.

Suchan1d10t · 28/07/2020 11:37

@ZeldalovesLink
Grin

mbosnz · 28/07/2020 11:38

Yes, you can civilly ask me to use my car less.

Doesn't mean I will accede to your civil request, and change my behaviour at all, in consideration of it, however, you are more than welcome to ask the question.

I hope you feel all the better for it. Smile

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 28/07/2020 11:38

I love my car. My husband loves his car. My son loves his too. We are a 3 car household. I fly with my kids 2-6 times a year . I also eat meat. And I keep my hot tub on 24/7/365.

Shoot me.
