Not an AIBU but how much roughly does it cost an hour for a cleaner?

Really fed up with my grown up children doing bugger all and paying £25 per week max but not really contributing towards, housework, laundry etc. Have decided they can contribute towards the cost of a cleaner if they are going to be lazy twats. My DH does do laundry etc. but his idea of cleaning the whole house is to run the robot vacuum. Pig sick of the lot of them.

Mine is £20 for two hours (Yorkshire). This is average around here - I know she adds on petrol sometimes however mine is very local so doesn't. I provide all the cleaning equipment.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 27/07/2020 19:23

I get mine through an agency and it's about 22 per week for 2 hours, I'm also Yorkshire based

Angeldust747 · 27/07/2020 19:25

I'd say £12.50 per hour in the North West

skeemee · 27/07/2020 19:26

£15 per hour Edinburgh

Nifnif · 27/07/2020 19:27

We pay £22.50 for 1.5 hours in South East. They provide the cleaning products.

Dontlickthat · 27/07/2020 19:29

Could I chime in and ask what your cleaner gets done in an hour and a half?

flamingo40 · 27/07/2020 19:29

It really depends on your area and what you want from the person? Cleaners and housekeepers are different and each would charge a different rate.
Feel free to ask my advice I have years of experience

StillMedusa · 27/07/2020 19:29

£15 an hour in Oxfordshire. She earns more than I do..but worth every penny!

Hibbetyhob · 27/07/2020 19:31

12.50 an hour in the south. But they’re on the cheaper side - they’ve cleaned for us for a long time so we get a better rate than new customers!

trinity0097 · 27/07/2020 19:34

I live in a small flat, mine does it, using her own products for £15 an hour. This is on Surrey/London borders. She live son the same road, so doesn’t mind it only being an hour.

Nyancat · 27/07/2020 19:34

£12 per hour but there are two who come so they are only here for an hour, I find two people get through far more in an hour than one person does in two.

PaperMonster · 27/07/2020 19:34

I get £10ph in the north west.

hugeginglass · 27/07/2020 19:38

so what can you ask a cleaner to do? I assume no ironing or anything but honestly I have no idea at all - never had a cleaner but so stressed at work I don't want to be cleaning when I come home.

Some cleaners will iron.
Bare in mind it will eat in to cleaning time.
The best thing to do is draw up a list of what you'd like doing,
Ask around for word of mouth recommendations they're always better than agencies.
Once you get people interested ask what they'd be happy doing and get them to give you an idea of how long it will take them.
Consider if you're going to provide products or if they will bring their own?

MrDarcysMa · 27/07/2020 19:43

You can ask them to do whatever you want ! They might say no to certain things though Wink
Mine used to hoover all floors, clean bathroom and kitchen, do the dusting in main spaces apart from bedrooms.
Once fortnightly she'd also strip and change the beds and dust the bedrooms (we'd leave bedding out for her) because I HATE doing that and we paid an extra 30 mins for this.
Bear in mind if you have lots of ornaments and clutter it will take longer/ be more expensive.

Then you can add things maybe monthly like skirting boards/ internal windows etc if you wish.

Mine is 50 for 3 hours (London)

Chasingsquirrels · 27/07/2020 19:47

Until recently I was paying £13.50 an hour for 2 hours, own products, own cloths, own mop & bucket, my vacuum. Cambridgeshire village.

In 2 hours she did the following;

  • carpets vacuumed (lounge, playroom, stairs, landing, 3 bedrooms, bathroom & ensuite)
  • hard floors brushed and mopped (hall, downstairs loo, kitchen, conservatory, utility).
  • kitchen surfaces cleaned and kitchen cupboard doors wiped down.
  • windowsills, coffee table, tv & side tables, bedroom chest of drawers etc surfaces cleaned.
  • bathroom, ensuite and downstairs loo all cleaned.
LoisLittsLover · 27/07/2020 19:47

£10 per hour in South East. She can clean my whole house - 4 beds and 3 bathrooms in 3 hours and it's shining. Shhe tends to do a deep clean of each floor and then lighter on the other 2 floors on a rota basis so they all get a regular good scrub. We do leave it very tidy for her though. My previous cleaner would take my ironing home at the end of each clean and do it at her house and I'd pick up at the weekend.

aquashiv · 27/07/2020 19:49

37.50 x 3 hours

aquashiv · 27/07/2020 19:50

mine does everything but I leave the place tidy and pick up everything off floors

doubleshotespresso · 27/07/2020 19:51

Funny you ask as in a very weak moment I git a quote as I've been very much overwhelmed by the lockdown, relentless chaos in my household.

Lovely lady came round and quoted 4 hours a week is the time she'd need to do it and would be prepared to do it fir £65
We are in London if that makes any difference

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 27/07/2020 19:53

£12.50 an hour but it's a little local company of two women, not a big agency who take fees etc. In two hours a week she does; kitchen bathroom, downstairs toilet, then dusts, polishes and hoovers, top to bottom (3 bed, 3 reception rooms)

GetTheSprinkles · 27/07/2020 19:53

£23 to cleaner and £4 to agency for 2 hours greater London. This gets both floors clean to a high standard (3 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, all floors, kitchen etc)

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 27/07/2020 19:53

South east, commuter town

bluerad · 27/07/2020 19:55

We have a husband and wife couple who do two hours each. £50. Worth their weight in gold.
